AIBU to request my family wears same clothes until we go on holiday?

Going on holiday next week. North of Scotland - Highlands and Islands
Obviously no different wardrobe needed from what we have been wearing all through autumn/winter!
Would it be unreasonable to ask my family to wear the same clothes daily from now until then so I don’t have any washing and ironing to do before we pack?

Brilliant idea. It's such a ball ache isn't it? Now if they would only wear one outfit for the entire holiday... Then you'd be laughing, no post holiday washing marathon!

Do you really want to live with smell? Perhaps you could all go about with pegs on your noses in the meantime?

If it’s three days - yes, apart from pants
If it’s three weeks - then not really
If it’s three months- that just grosybut would save time
If it’s three years- no one will notice but you’ll all smell terrible- but it’ll be good for the environment

I never allow packing to be more than one entire washing machine load ever so upon return it’s one washing load each person

Why do we ever change cloths. This needs to be a life change not just for a holiday.

I wash everything three days beforehand the holiday and pack all the suitcases, then everyone can wear what is left for the remaining three days.

This is me this week. Last washload in the washing machine now, and all their clothes packed for weekend departure. They can live in the same jeans and hoody til then..

I do this. We don't have loads of clothes as I struggle keeping on top of stuff so have a one in, one out approach.

Keep out 2 sets of every day stuff and the rest is packed a week or so before. Obviously the stuff is washed in between.

I have been known to say "oh, you can't wear that. It's clean!"

It's liberating having low standards.

How smelly do you get?! Bar underwear I don't see a problem wearing the same clothes for a few days in this situation if they're not getting sweaty/doing exercise etc in them

Up to a week before we go away I give a warning re 'nothing to be worn that you want on holiday'.

Handy tip: My sister microwaved nephews favourite t shirt to dry it on holiday.

I just went away for 3 nights recently and all I took was underwear/socks, pj's and three tops (one of which I didn't wear)

I thought about taking extra trousers and other stuff but I couldn't be arsed.

We always had to wear old random clothes just before our holidays. I remember going on our first 2 week break and having to wear PJ's and bikini bottoms instead of pants the day before we left for holiday!

Enjoy north of scotland, that's where I'm from - and if you get the weather right, it can be just beautiful!

It can be quite windy sometimes if you're by the coast, so the smell will be blown away from you... xoxo

I keep SOCO all in ones (with accompanying plastic shoe covers) for just such occasions. They can be worn for weeks with minimal sweatage, and look both trendy and intimidating. The family love them.

OP, I've got a better idea.

Educate your family about the life cycle of laundry. Point out that if they insist on wearing their favourite T Shirt right up to the day before the holiday. then the said T Shirt will still be in Stage One (The Basket) whilst you're on holiday and therefore, unavailable to pack.

When they are forced to pack their old decorating rags and dirty underwear for their holidays, they'll soon start to become more compliant with the Laundry Life Cycle.

Tailor the adherence and the assistance you offer to members commensurate with their age and ability, on a sliding scale. Any babies are left of scale (full help), and adults are right of scale (fuck all help).

If it all falls over, swing into Plan B, which is the "Teaching people how to do their own laundry and not enabling their shitty behaviour".

Pack the stuff you want to take away and let the family root around for some of their "less worn" clothes to wear in the meantime
