AIBU to request my family wears same clothes until we go on holiday?

Going on holiday next week. North of Scotland - Highlands and Islands
Obviously no different wardrobe needed from what we have been wearing all through autumn/winter!
Would it be unreasonable to ask my family to wear the same clothes daily from now until then so I don’t have any washing and ironing to do before we pack?
Ps lighthearted

Loving this thread, I do have a dryer but not everything can go in it. Damn you white stuff jeans. So we too have to wear often not seen in a year clothes for the few days before a holiday.

SummerHouse · 03/04/2019 12:18

Exactly tree

This is just the reason I keep the Bobba Fett outfit at the bottom of my wardrobe.

Marshmallow91 · 03/04/2019 12:21

Couldn't you just let them wear the one set of clothes and hose the whole family down in the garden every couple days (while they wear the clothes) while occasionally dusting them with washing powder?

Best of both worlds

And depending on age of kids, you can hang them up on the washing line after?

Gets the clothes dried and keeps the little sods out of trouble for a few hours...

DanielRicciardosSmile · 03/04/2019 12:22

You could take up naturism temporarily.

SkintAsASkintThing · 03/04/2019 12:24

I use a hairdryer to dry stuff. It works really well. I've even dried jeans.

SkintAsASkintThing · 03/04/2019 12:24

Just put in at the bottom so the item puffs up. Real game changer on holiday.

PleaseEmployMe · 03/04/2019 12:31

Anything not in the laundry basket 4 days before departure will not be washed ready to take away. In those 4 days, I reserve the right to veto what the DC want to wear. DH can figure his own clothes out.

StarlingsEverywhere · 03/04/2019 12:34

My family have to wear scruffy old clothes for at least 3 or 4 days before we go on holiday. Then I pack everything nice that we own, and then DS(4) insists on alternating the same two pairs of shorts and t-shirts thoguthout then holiday (we go self-catering, so I do manage to wash them every night).

norrismcwhirtersfridgemagnet · 03/04/2019 12:38

YADNBU. You could also ask them to sit in the car from now on so there is no need to make beds, tidy etc? Maybe throw in a few family packs of wotsits and a mobile charger?

RomanyQueen1 · 03/04/2019 12:57

We pack everything we need for the holiday and use what's left.
If they want to wear something they have packed, tough.
it usually works well.
Just tell them to leave out what they aren't taking and wear those.

DanglyTassles · 03/04/2019 13:01

Well you most definitely need a slanket a-peace!

Slankets are our winter/chilly weather uniform over in Thighland as you can find out for yourselves:

Playmytune · 03/04/2019 13:03

YABSU, however it does depend on how many clothes your children/partner have. When my dc were young they didn’t have enough clothes for this to be feasible. In fact I can remember setting my alarm the night before we left, so that I could get up in the middle of the night to change the clothes in the tumble drier, at least twice!
I would never expect my family to wear the same clothes for 3 or 4 days!
Even now I don’t pack until the day before, or on the day if not leaving early.
I can understand you expecting all clothes to be in the wash 2 days before leaving, but not more than that!

iolaus · 03/04/2019 13:06

I'd just say anything you want to take needs to be in the wash by X date - there will be no washing after that

Don't get me wrong I probably would end up washing between those dates as otherwise you just have loads when you get home, BUT they don't have to be

CarolinePooter · 03/04/2019 13:23

Front, back, side, side, gusset. Turn inside out. Repeat. Only works for M&S high leg or Y fronts. Come to thighland and abandon your cares.

SummerHouse · 03/04/2019 13:23

Oh dangly you had me at slanket Grin

Stick a slanket on the radiator for me, i am heading over.

DanglyTassles · 03/04/2019 13:26

Yay see you on the other side Summer Grin

Sirzy · 03/04/2019 13:28

When we were younger my mum had a rule that if we wanted something to go away with us we didn’t wear it for 3 days before we went

YourEggnogIsBetterThanMine · 03/04/2019 13:30

We are going on holiday on Saturday too. Last call for laundry was this morning. The DC understand no problem but DH struggles. If you wear something after Last Call then it will not magically reappear clean in the wardrobe before we leave. He struggles to do Stage 1: Put Dirty Items In The Basket. He will leave stinky jeans in his wardrobe and then wonder why they still stink. My 3yo has mastered Stage 1.

So no YANBU. DC and I are in Tier 3 clothing until Saturday. I am currently wearing my "hair dye t-shirt".

NotSureThisIsWhatIWant · 03/04/2019 13:44

I like the idea of the kids sleeping in their uniforms. It will save so much time and stress in the mornings! (And they will be more happy when they are finally out of it!)

FuckBrussel · 03/04/2019 13:46

Ah, my people...

I too turn into an, "IF YOU WANT THAT ON HOLIDAY GIVE IT TO ME NOW!" ogre about three days before we leave.

I still end up doing a quick wash the night before though. Hmm

PocaMiseria · 03/04/2019 14:15

@ Ginkythefangedhellpigofdoom

I just went away for 3 nights recently and all I took was underwear/socks, pj's and three tops (one of which I didn't wear)

I thought about taking extra trousers and other stuff but I couldn't be arsed.

You are me and I claim my £5.
Although I did have a moment's doubt about having no spare trousers when the hand of the elderly relly I was visiting shook worryingly with a full cup of tea in it: it crossed my mind that if it went all over me I'd be in real trouble. So I edged my chair slightly further away and stayed poised for evasive action if necessary, but it didn't happen.....

I am pleased to report I have completed the Ryanair "three days away with only the luggage that fits under the seat in front of you" challenge. More complicated at this time of year than in the summer.

LaurieFairyCake · 03/04/2019 14:22

WAIT - HOLD THE FRONT PAGE!

Can you REALLY MICROWAVE CLOTHES?!?

SummerHouse · 03/04/2019 14:25

I can't vouch for all materials but this was a football t-shirt and it microwaved a treat..

Treefloof · 03/04/2019 14:40

Can you REALLY MICROWAVE CLOTHES?!?
Ffs dont put anything with metal buttons in. That could cause wgst looks like an apocalypse in your microwave. Can confirm that some clothes can be microwaved.

Marshmallow91 · 03/04/2019 15:15

Microwaving clothes Grin

Surely noone has been that desperate for a certain item of clothing!
