I'm watching a documentary and everyone in it speaks with vocal fry probably 85/90% of the time and it's so moronic. Why why is this a thing?

It’s fucking awful. I’ve noticed a lot of videos of the Buzzfeed type have young women clearly modifying their natural voices. One particular one, the woman was talking with a high pitched very childish tone, they showed some ‘backstage’ bits and she sounded normal.

My baby sensory leader puts on a really high pitched voice, but I forgive her slightly because she works with children all the time. I often wonder how she speaks to her husband!

I had to revive this thread as I just changed jobs and one of my new colleagues uses vocal fry to be important and/or cool. Makes me absolutely bloody homicidal and once noticed you just can’t unhear it!
