To think there are no performers Anymore?

Just watched "Bohemian Rhapsody" and am now watching that Liveaid performance on YouTube.

It struck me just how talented Freddie Mercury was but also what a performer.. and I can't think of anyone in the charts at the minute who is such a performer! The only one I can think of is Robbie Williams but he doesn't have the talent that Freddie had, although I do love him!

Are there still performers? Freddie was just mesmerising and obviously one of a kind!

What about Lady Gaga?

Mammyloveswine · 16/03/2019 22:45

Might have to watch some of her performances on YouTube...

I second Pink. Just amazing. Queen's music was so diverse over the years that I can't believe you can hate all of their songs. My personal hero was David Bowie ( brainwashed by my dad!) but I think Freddie was the ultimate performer.

Samcro · 16/03/2019 23:00

i am interested to hear how long Lady G performs for. I saw David Bowie years ago (serious moonlighting tour) and he was on stage for over 2 hours.
wish i had seen Freddie

FunkyKingston · 16/03/2019 23:02

Yeah, Queen and Live Aid, a less known backstory is thst thry played in Sun City (the apartheid vegas) in South Africa in 1984 and then had the gall to play live aid the following year. Bleating on about poverty and injutice in Africa months after banking a vast cheque for playing a string of gigs at a whites only resort at the height of apartheid. Bunch of Cunts.

TOADally · 16/03/2019 23:08

Look up Leo Pelligrino.

Mammyloveswine · 17/03/2019 00:19

I love Queens music! So diverse!

@funkykingston that's really interesting as I believe Freddie was actually Indian and was often referred to.as a "p*i although I believe he wanted to be.viewed as a white British man. Such a shame that he couldn't just be a proud, bisexual, British-indian man.

Beyonce

Some brilliant performers the world over but often the best are in the least likely places and unknown to the wider world.

Surprised you only just saw the Live Aid set but yeah he absolutely owned the crowd. Queen were one of a very select few able to perform to full stadiums and not lose their audience.

I think venue size and overall vibe each can give makes a difference. Lot of bands rattle around in the larger places and don't come off as well. Others are too much for a smaller place and not suited or right for them so you need them outside at festivals.

Only two bands I saw at both huge festivals and smaller venues but neither once bombed or played a bad set are Prodigy and Levellers.

I met Sam Brown a few times when I was younger and honest to God... the noise that comes out of her blows you away.

Another is Eddi Reader (Fairground Attraction) Her entire energy and stage presence is perfect. Voice I like nectar and she's a really nice person who whether you are in the audience are enjoying a jamming session she's always really into it and lifts everyone.

So yeah there are loads of brilliant performers but for me it's all about dropping in and seeing them / having a bit of jamming session and a real blast Smile

StandardLampski · 17/03/2019 01:29

Look up The Struts

And yes , pink!

violetbunny · 17/03/2019 05:26

Bruno Mars

LellyMcKelly · 17/03/2019 05:32

The Killers. Brandon Flowers owns the stage and looks like he’s havin* the time of his life doing it.

AgentJohnson · 17/03/2019 05:38

Beyoncé and Pink.

Nodnol · 17/03/2019 06:01

Lady Gaga and P!nk. Exceptionally talented performers.

Tinkerbell456 · 17/03/2019 06:15

Freddy Mercury was an incredible performer. As was Bowie. To name but two. You have a point. I can’t think of a modern equivelant. I don’t mean that today’s muses are untalented. Just.....I don’t know.

OwlBeThere · 17/03/2019 06:16

There are loads! The red hot chilli peppers put one hell of a show, pink as others have said, little mix while not my thing at all do a great show (I took my daughter).
I also think there is a lot to be said for acts that can just stand and play/sing and yet utterly entrance you.

Tinkerbell456 · 17/03/2019 06:20

Actually, you are right about the Peppers. Good point.

AnarchyKitty · 17/03/2019 06:23

The Darkness. They knew how to put on a show. Justin could certainly strut his stuff in lycra.

Tinkerbell456 · 17/03/2019 06:32

Okay, so apart from Pink, the Chillies and the Darkness, where are the performers?

anniehm · 17/03/2019 07:07

There's plenty out there especially performing live. The Killers were amazing and yes they have a great front man, Lady Gaga someone else mentioned, she was amazing live too. Not all have the sheer flamboyance of Freddie but he was a one off!

Lungelady · 17/03/2019 07:12

The Waterboys. Mike Scott is phenomenal.

Oysterbabe · 17/03/2019 07:12

Ah I adore Pink, she's amazing.

anniehm · 17/03/2019 07:12

Ps, for energy and performance look up k-pop on YouTube. Dd days live it's amazing, I haven't been all a bit stage managed for me but she loves it and her dad takes her when they can source tickets
