To think there are no performers Anymore?

Just watched "Bohemian Rhapsody" and am now watching that Liveaid performance on YouTube.

It struck me just how talented Freddie Mercury was but also what a performer.. and I can't think of anyone in the charts at the minute who is such a performer! The only one I can think of is Robbie Williams but he doesn't have the talent that Freddie had, although I do love him!

Are there still performers? Freddie was just mesmerising and obviously one of a kind!

It's a different type of performance to Queen but Rammstein put on an absolutely incredible show.

Tinkerbell456 · 17/03/2019 07:24

Okay. So apart from Pink, the Darkness , the Red Hot Chillie Peppers, the Killers, Ramstein and Lady Gaga....where are the performers??

ThunderR0ad78 · 17/03/2019 07:48

Springsteen! All day long.....

Tinkerbell456 · 17/03/2019 07:53

Okay. To save a lot of writing. Apart from all the aforementioned incredible performers ( and they are), where are the performers?

ShitAtScarbble · 17/03/2019 07:55

FunkyKingston if you are going to get on your soapbox then it might be wise to check your facts first. The whole point of Sun City was that it was open to all in apartheid era South Africa.
The rights and wrongs of how it came to exist within the made up state of Bophuthatswana are a whole other debate but there was no racial segregation there and that was precisely why Queen and many other international artists played there.

JourneyToThePlacentaOfTheEarth · 17/03/2019 08:06

Beyonce. A complete performer and all rounder. Her concerts are an amazing spectacle. Tina Turner also is a performer

Tinkerbell456 · 17/03/2019 08:09

Okay. Feel free to stop coming up with these examples anytime people!

Lungelady · 17/03/2019 08:09

This is a bit like "What have the Romans ever done for you"....

Fuzzysocksies · 17/03/2019 08:14

Panic! At The Disco, specifically Brendan Urie. Absolutely incredible showman, his voice is better live than on recordings, he plays multiple instruments on stage and his stage presence and energy are just amazing.

OwlBeThere · 17/03/2019 08:14

Panic at the disco, not really my thing but Brendan is a great front man.

Chancewouldbeafinethlng · 17/03/2019 08:18

Went to see Years & Years and was blown away by how good they are!

Tinkerbell456 · 17/03/2019 08:21

Panic at the Disco? years and Years? Stop it now! I hate you all with the passion of a thousand fiery suns!

Crappygilmore · 17/03/2019 08:29

parly i totally agree about the Levellers. I have seen them at every stage of their career and in every inebriated state imaginable and not once have they failed to put on a bad performance.
As for whoever said Queens music was awful... well thats just your opinion. Thankfully music is diverce and we all dont have to follow the sheeps of the music business. I have seen so many acts who have great stage presence and talented too, but they are not in the charts because they dont live up to the popular stereotypes in the industry. Sadly Freddy wouldn't have made it past the first round in the looks departments scrutiny today today we judge more on looks than real tallent. . And he had real tallent.

PurpleFlower1983 · 17/03/2019 08:31

Lady Gaga, Pink, The Killers, Madonna, all good performers but Freddie was a singular talent.

Dramatical · 17/03/2019 08:33

I can't believe someone has mentioned little mix in this thread Confused

EngagedAgain · 17/03/2019 08:59

Purple pipped me to the post with Madonna. I don't follow her as much now as in her 'heyday' as it were, but I think early on was sheer brilliance. Also I'd not seen it before, but recently stumbled across on you tube, a performance at an awards ceremony. It was Vogue and they were dressed up in Georgian? style clothes. Reminded me of just what a performer she was/is. Used to have a video of one of her tours around 1990? May have been blonde ambition?

The whole point of Sun City was that it was open to all in apartheid era South Africa.

Queen and other international artists played there for one reason and one reason only. Greed. Sun City managed to circumvent SA's gambling laws

The idea that Sun City was 'mixed' is a laugh. I always understood it to be whites only, do you have any evidence of black people holidaying there on equal terms? Yes, Queen wanted to play to an integreated audience so a handful of tickets were given out to non-whites to provide window dressing. Which in my view is cynical and grotesque.

I get Freddie Mercury was charismatic and his life was curtailed in the most cruel way possible but that doesn't male him a Saint. The knots that some Queen fans will tie themselves in to defend the sun city episode are extraordinary.

MadisonAvenue · 17/03/2019 09:02

Billie Joe Armstrong is amazing front man.

Pinkyyy · 17/03/2019 09:07

Brendan Urie from panic at the disco has amazing strange presence

RJnomore1 · 17/03/2019 09:10

Panic at the disco are BRILLIANT live and god can he sing. I saw 21 pilots last week and their live show is incredible especially given there are only 2 of them. (I have a 14 yo dd 😬)

Yes to Springsteen. Saw him play acoustic years and years ago and he had us all in the palm of his hand.

The wombats. Look like they really enjoy playing. The courteeners blow you away live. Belle and Sebastian - never seen a poor show, always having fun, get the audience involved.

But the master for me is Nick Cave. The man is electric. You can see him thriving on the energy from the audience. It’s incredible and almost spiritual and leaves me tingling every time.

RJnomore1 · 17/03/2019 09:12

Oh I saw Beyoncé and jayz last year too, really good show, they’re nowhere near on a par with the people I listed above though. Expensive bells and whistles and fun to see.

Pinkyyy · 17/03/2019 09:13

Stage* not strange

BalthazarImpresario · 17/03/2019 09:19

Agree re Brendon Urie/Panic.
Glad someone mentioned twenty one pilots, 2 guys and the live shows are incredible. Wasn't a fan until I saw them live.
Killers are a given too.

Also agree re pink even if she isn't my go to music wise I would go to watch her show.

BalthazarImpresario · 17/03/2019 09:21

@RJnomore1
Yes! Belle and Sebastian, only saw them once at a festival but it was the best set of the day.

xsquared · 17/03/2019 09:22

I agree with you OP that there are very few people of his calibre in today's music industry.

Who are today's Brian May and Freddie Mercury? I cannot see any of today's music still being played in 30 years' time as classics.
