AIBU to be really annoyed with Sainsbury's

Got home this evening from work, guests coming over this evening, and my Sainbury's order hasn't arrived.

I phone them up to be told, oh dear it looks like the driver phoned in sick today.

That's despite getting an email from them at lunch time to say it would be delivered.

Can they do anything to help me? No. They can't help deliver my food, they can't rearrange the deliver. I can't even make a compliant because their computer system doesn't allow it.

Useless, useless company.

Order a takeaway when your friends arrive.

Lucky for me my au pair kindly delayed going out to let me do a quick dash to the shops

I switched to Ocado when Sainsbury’s did that to me and I haven’t looked back. You get an updated ETA on the app so you can tell if there’s a problem.

Sainsbury’s is only there to keep the riff raff out of Waitrose.

I wanted to feel sorry for you. But I couldn't shop in Waitrose unless I wanted to spend our weeks food budget on one meal. And the au pair just adds to my bitterness! It's a dick move from Sainsbury's though none the less

Sainsbury's is a really over rated store IMO. I had a terrible experience with them when I'd ordered some food for a party. I went to collect it and the woman argued blind that it was for the following day. Eventually a supervisor intervened and agreed I was right, it should have been ready for that day, but tough luck too late now. No apology or anything. I had to scramble around for substitutes.

(Sounds shit tbf. I used Waitrose for my last 3 or so food shop deliveries because the vouchers I had made it almost as cheap as Tesco but Waitrose were late for 2 deliveries, making me late for work twice, so I've since gone crawling back to Tesco.... )

I shop in Aldi and Waitrose, I can't say I see that much difference in price from my usual online delivery from Tesco.

Oh, I forgot, for some posters having an au-pair, the cheapest possible form of childcare in this country, means you are Upper Class wealthy

I ditched Sainsbury as soon as Morrison's started delivery. It was crap, loads of bizzare substitutions, squished fruit and missed deliveries.

I’m surprised you left your delivery so late! If you are expecting guests, why on earth would you leave it until the last minute? Entertaining means just that, entertaining, not sweating in the kitchen unpacking groceries, stressing over substitutions and cooking while your guests entertain themselves.

Next time, plan it better. Have all your prep done the day before, greet your guests and relax!

It is a bit pants of Sainsburys, but then I don’t think I’d trust them to deliver on the day you need them. I’m in Oz, and our supermarkets are much the same It’s clearly a global issue on which we must all unite! Speak truth to power. And stuff.

But imagine I was a broke single mum with no childcare.

It would be even crapper to get home from work on a Friday night and discover you had no bloody food and they couldn't be bothered to even let you know.

Au-pair and Waitrose aside, I get your point, OP. We had this happen last year, and while we didn’t have guests coming, not having things like cat litter and food delivered when we expected was annoying. We don’t have a car, so rely on online deliveries for heavy stuff. From memory, I think we had to redo the order and re-book, there wasn’t a way for them just to move it to the next day. (Also tough luck if you had to wait for the refund before you could afford to do the order again.)

Having been the broke single mum many years ago, I can confirm it is utterly shit when your food shop doesn't turn up. I picked a three year old DS up from my parents house on my way home from a shift at 9:30pm one night and food shopping was due between 10-11pm. Didn't turn up and I was relying on it for so many reasons that night. Worst part was, I had to contact Tesco as I heard nothing from them and when I complained they offered me £5 off my next shop 😒

I'm not broke, but I am a single Mum with limited childcare at the drop of a hat. In your situation, I could work around IF THEY HAD TOLD ME, but if it just didn't turn up and they were all blase about it, I'd be livid.

But, the people I have over for dinner are all close friends and wouldn't mind at all. We'd all muck in, someone would get a take away or they'd pop to the shops for me, or mind DS while I did.

It would be more if I needed actual food for packed lunches or breakfast or something that would make me want to cry.

Go out for dinner.

It's not a small business is it? You would have thought they might have processes in place to deal with sick employees.

I had many problems with sainsburys and found their lack of good customer service fustrating! I used ocado, they were smashing but expensive. I now use Morrison's and they are great.
