AIBU to be really annoyed with Sainsbury's

Got home this evening from work, guests coming over this evening, and my Sainbury's order hasn't arrived.

I phone them up to be told, oh dear it looks like the driver phoned in sick today.

That's despite getting an email from them at lunch time to say it would be delivered.

Can they do anything to help me? No. They can't help deliver my food, they can't rearrange the deliver. I can't even make a compliant because their computer system doesn't allow it.

Useless, useless company.

Sainsburys forgot to deliver our shopping a couple of months back. We called customer services and we got 10 credit to our account and they delivered our shopping the next morning. Dh also took to twitter publicly tweeted Sainsbury and got another 10 on our account. Worth complaining

SoftSheen · 15/03/2019 21:33

Next time get Waitrose to deliver. We had a Waitrose delivery today, containing the ingredients to cook a special celebratory lunch for my mother's 70th birthday. Because a £10 rack of lamb had a short expiration date (tomorrow), they gave it to us for free Shock And some free hot cross buns too :)

(Disclaimer: we don't do all our shopping in Waitrose, much of it comes from Asda. Nor to we usually buy expensive cuts of meat).

Nat6999 · 15/03/2019 21:36

I won't shop in Sainsbury's unless I am desperate, their customer service is appalling, their standards have really dropped over the last few years.

AveEldon · 15/03/2019 21:36

I'm not sure how well Sainsburys treat their drivers

I had one refuse to deliver as he couldn't park legally and if he got a ticket then he would have to have an HR meeting and deduction of wages!
When I called customer services they said I should arrange delivery outside the controlled parking hours. On my street that still doesn't mean you can park and it's common for delivery drivers to just block the street while delivering

SciFiRules · 15/03/2019 21:39

Yes it's inconvenient and bad service. On the other hand I've only had really good service from sainsbury's even the one occasion it did go awry they did everything they could to help and I think gave us some point (can't remember for sure). Hopefully you got what you needed on the way home so many be just one to chalk up to experience? Anoying though it is.

scissorsandpen · 15/03/2019 21:40

Shit service but yes hysterical re au pair kindness and Waitrose lol

Islands81 · 15/03/2019 21:41

I’m a broke single mum.

Therefore I don’t shop in Sainsbury’s.

Lidl all the way for me (except the few bits I can’t get there which I go to Morrison’s for).

TheCanyon · 15/03/2019 21:42

I'm fucked off with them too, they've put my fave wine up 50p in the last year. Cunts. They also don't sell it in central manchester stores I went in. Double cunts.

Be grateful for waitrose. Your lucky if you can knock up a meal between our only two supermarkets

scissorsandpen · 15/03/2019 21:48

I prefer Morrison’s esp now they deliver but has anyone noticed any stock issues . Couple of times for example no large packed of own make or kettle
Chips on a Friday evening and random stuff like celery and ricotta !?!?

victoriaspongecake · 15/03/2019 21:54

Could you get an urgent food bank voucher?

BrendasUmbrella · 15/03/2019 21:55

The service varies area to area. Sainsbury's in my area is faultless, but I got a year free pass from Ocado who so far I am not impressed with. They arrive whenever in the day they feel like arriving. Their fruit and veg is a low standard. And their butter tastes like vanilla icecream...

onthenaughtystepagain · 15/03/2019 21:58

A word of advice, this is MN, next time say that Morrison's failed to deliver and you had to go to Aldi, you might get more sympathy, there's no snobbery like inverted snobbery!

TriciaH87 · 15/03/2019 21:58

Can't help it if someone gets sick. They are only required to call in one hour before shift starts so if your delivery was say at 4 and they start at 2 the store might not know until 1pm after message sent. Or perhaps they were trying to relocate some orders to other drivers. Sickness happens its a chance you take with online shopping.

LordVoldetort · 15/03/2019 22:00

But imagine I was a broke single mum with no childcare

Happened to my friend. I’m not entirely sure of the outcome but it was days late and customer service wasn’t helping. The wouldn’t refund the money they took for the shopping which was the last of her money till pay day and she was out of nappies. Luckily she had a friend who lived close by that bought her some nappies and bits to tie her over.
Their customer service is utterly shit!

scissorsandpen · 15/03/2019 22:00

Why can’t you say your real life and OP saw the humour in the subsequent posts . Some of us have au pairs and Waitrose and some of us have nothing I don’t think either should hide the reality of their lives .

Folf · 15/03/2019 22:03

You can complain.. I find their facebook page useful for shit like that!

You might only get a points voucher out of it, but i'd still complain, its not good enough.

anniehm · 15/03/2019 22:05

It's happened to me, except it was Ocado. Luckily my kids are big and we have loads of big supermarkets nearby (literally every brand) but I was annoyed. Wasn't the only time and I've tried all of them for delivery and all fail from time to time so I've returned to going in person

FemalePersonator · 15/03/2019 22:07

I feel for you, OP. I had trouble getting the moat to my castle cleaned in time for a visit from a VVIP.

Thank God the the butler stepped up. Crisis averted.

Cherrysherbet · 15/03/2019 22:10

Don’t think I would have been able to sleep tonight after your first post.....thank fuck for the Waitrose/au pair update. 🙄

Sparklingbrook · 15/03/2019 22:16

They can't just produce a driver out of nowhere can they? Confused

BarbaraofSevillle · 15/03/2019 22:20

^I’m a broke single mum.

True. If you were in a position where you couldn't get to a cheap supermarket easily or cheaply and money was an issue, it's unlikely you'd be shopping at Sainsburys. You'd order from Asda or Morrisons, needs must and all that.

I don't see the point of online shopping as they seem incapable of getting it right. I haven't bothered since they sent out of date milk. How is that even possible? I'm a queen of the reduced counter and Milk simply does not feature, therefore out of date milk in a supermarket shouldn't even really exist.

Dieu · 15/03/2019 22:26

I was in Sainsbury's the other day. I hardly ever shop there, but it surprises me that so many people do, as they're really expensive.

Longlostperson · 15/03/2019 22:33

“Sainsbury’s is only there to keep the riff raff out of Waitrose.“

Grin I learn so much on here.

downinthedumpstoday · 15/03/2019 22:34

Wherever you shop, it seems to me that when you shop online, and a specific time is stated when you make that order, that it's not unreasonable to expect it to turn up at that time. It's not the customer's fault that the driver's sick nor really their responsibility - it's the supermarket's responsibility to provide a replacement driver. Bearing in mind that a lot of people who use online shopping are using it because they CAN'T go to the shops from something like disability or sickness. So, no, I don't think YABU - I think the supermarkets need to do more to provide a decent customer service.

lyralalala · 15/03/2019 22:36

At least you had the money to go elsewhere.

Happened to me with Tesco once and they put a £5 goodwill gesture in with the refund. Said refund took 3 days.

I’d been dating DH for a month, (my grandparents were on holiday), and I had to ask him for a loan of £15. Had to pretend my DD’s had hidden my bank card. Was mortifying.
