Is mumsnet aimed at rich families ?

I’ve seen quite a lot of threads on here where families seem to have a huge amount of disposable income .
Im a single parent without a huge amount and wondering if I am in the minority on here ?
I’ve noticed there seems to be more people with lower incomes on netmums ? Am I generalising or have others noticed this also

Definitely not your imagination, I do get the sense that Mumsnet is 'by the middle classes, for the middle classes'.

I've noticed that too. Often feel quite poor when I read threads about what people spend on food/holidays/houses etc. Grin

Don’t be silly, there are tens of thousands of regular users here. One of two posts from well off people isn’t representative.

There’s many many single mums here, everyone is welcome. Except trolls of course. Rude and unkind people will get their arses handed to them. As will people who have been here two weeks and think everyone should change to suit them.

It’s not for everyone and there are plenty other websites online. But I’d encourage you to hang about a bit longer, you might like it Smile.

It may be for the middle classes but some of us are still poor and have a low income. We are just educated.

Not well off either. OH works all hours to support me and our two DC. We manage but can't afford holidays and other luxuries.
I left netmums as I found it was like a nest of vipers!

I've been on a Mumsnet for about 4 years now, and in that time I've felt that it does often seem like majority of other users are those of a middle class/upper-middle class life.
I'm not saying that's the case (I obviously don't actually know statistics of users), and I'm not saying all the users are, just that it certainly seems like the majority must have a higher than average income.

Although I've been here since 2008, definitely earning and living on less than average and rarely encounter blatant snobbery or people looking down on others.

Trolls and goady fuckers bring the exception of course!

I’m middle class but also single parent poor. My ex pays school fees so Ds is private educated. I don’t fit in anywhere..... but more here than netmums Grin

Also, it's interesting to see how the other half live Grin I have frequently seen posters argue that 80k a year is not a large wage and that no-one can afford to live in London for less than that or that they spend 200 quid a week on groceries or 500 quid per child on Christmas presents etc. It just shows how everyone has their own normal I guess.

I don't think it's specifically aimed at middle class mums, but as that was the main demographic at the start it has attracted more of the same going forward.

You don't know what's correct though.
I could type that I have a fab career earning Shit loads, married to a man who equally earns Shit loads ( with an unmentionable hobby of course ) have kids at private schools and I live in a five bedroom, four bathroomed detached house in a rural area ( cleaner and au pair optional) where I have my £150 weekly waitrose shop delivered to.
It doesn't make it a fact.
MN is for everyone.

Those with more money are more likely to post their income, it's a skewed perspective of the user base.

It’s not aimed at rich families but there definitely are a lot of poster who have a high income, on 100k plus with interesting and successful careers although weirdly there are also a lot of people who are scraping by. I always think it’s the average earners who seem to be poorly represented. Not so many on 30-70k household income. I will now be flamed for saying that’s average by both of the groups I mentioned....

I don't have young /school children I don't work so no earning Dh job isn't middle management I could go on I like it here and never feel out of place ,personallly I find netmums a bit judgemental and suspicious if you don't have a toddler , op use whichever site you prefer

I think it certainly has a more middle class demographic and users with a higher level of education. So not necessarily 'rich' families, but a very different demographic to other parenting websites.

Hmm i often think it's either all or nothing on here. Very well off people or people who are barely scraping by from pay day to payday.
I'm sort of in the middle, Not rich, not skint, just sort of comfortable ish ? but if the boiler broke It would be tight for a bit! Son off to uni soon so will probably feel a hit there. I don't recognise my situation very often on here. I also think my earning potential is perhaps less than a lot of the posters on here. Again it seems to me a lot of people here earn a lot more than me!
