To be fed up with unsolicited parking “help” from men?

Really I should be posting this on Pistonheads I suppose.

Three times in the past month I have been parking/manoeuvring my car and been pissed off by random strangers - always men- trying to wave me/ beckon me/ direct me/ give me instructions.

I drive a nice car. I am a very confident driver. I am especially good at parking. I also have really good cameras which give me a birds eye view. On no occasion have I looked like I was having trouble or taken a long time.

All the help I need is for them to get out of my fucking way - them standing in front of my car is the only thing holding me up!

I have literally had to wind down the window and ask them to just move and leave me to it each time.

WTF is wrong with these men - and it is always men?

AIBU to find this annoying and really patronising (and sexist)?

Completely agree. Usually I can't see because they're in the sodding way!

TitsAndTomatoes · 03/03/2019 19:46

This has never happened to me. Ever. Ivr seen people who do a 33 point turn to reverse park be given a hand at times.
Do you take ages to park or something?

missmouse101 · 03/03/2019 19:47

YANBU in any way! I too have this and do not want their 'help'. I just need them to GET OUT OF THE WAY!

redastherose · 03/03/2019 19:47

UANBU it is always men that do this. I drive a big car, am a really confident parallel parker and have had this happen a few times. Just keep out of my way, I don't need to be told how far I've got to go, I bloody know.

Processedpea · 03/03/2019 19:48

Never seen anyone do this man or woman

Shoppingwithmother · 03/03/2019 19:50

No, tits, I don’t - as I said in the original post

Another one here that it's never happened too or seen anyone else have it done to them.

SnowyAlpsandPeaks · 03/03/2019 19:50

Never had this done to me or seen it (now I said that i’ll be writing a thread about it in a few days!).

Deadringer · 03/03/2019 19:51

It's just another form of mansplaining isn't it.

Shoppingwithmother · 03/03/2019 19:52

Exactly, Deadringer!

I had this when I drove a Citreon Picasso but not since I am in my much smaller Corsa.
Do you have a larger car OP?

Justonemorepancake · 03/03/2019 19:54

Oh don't. Last week I parallel parked in a tight-spot on a narrow double parked road. I got out and got a round of applause "perfect park! Did your husband teach you?" Said without a hint of joviality. Angry

JayneyMc4 · 03/03/2019 19:54

They'll be thinking it's your husbands nice car and you can't be trusted with it. I've actually been asked 'this you getting a shot of your mans car?'

Shoppingwithmother · 03/03/2019 19:55

Yes, I do, Thunderstorm. It is a large SUV and is the easiest car I’ve ever had to park, paradoxically.

Never happened to me either, ever. We have a sport car, a family car and a small city thing too small to fit all the kids, bliss. I am still being ignored completely.

What I have to put up with, but from women also, is people trying to race me when I am in the sports car. You can hear engines raving at traffic light pretty much every single time!

The thing that piss off some drivers, and women are included there! I had one just last night in her white 4x4, is when they get overtaken by my small car.

Parking advice, never got any, sometimes I wish I had!

Try being female and driving an ambulance! We go through so much training to be allowed to do it, so we really don't need random waving men. But somehow they think they're being helpful and we can't cope without them

Barrenfieldoffucks · 03/03/2019 20:41

Yup, pisses me right off. I drive a fairly large, new car. It has front and rear sensors. No-one ever offers assistance to my husband... funny that.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 03/03/2019 21:05

Stumbled on this thread and wondered if you can give me some reassurance -please forgive slight derail OP! - but after driving an old focus for years we've just bought a Quashqai which were picking up in a few weeks.

Ive always been a confident driver and happily reverse and parallel park daily. Even though new one has front and back cameras I'm today having a crisis of confidence that I won't be able to park the bloody thing in anything other than the furthest away space in the empty end of any car park.

Please reassure me I'll be ok?! Confused If any of you lovely lot see me struggling I'll happily take your parking assistance if you give me some sort of secret wink so I know you're a MNER!

Justonemorepancake · 03/03/2019 21:14

I have a qashqai. Previous and only car I drove was a golf. No parking sensors on either, but a reverse camera on the qashqai. No problems parking, even on a tiny parallel park on a narrow double parked road. You do need the reverse camera or a sensor as the rear visibility is awful for parking. But it's no wider than a focus really! You're fine. I like to tilt the wing mirrors down to see the curb when parking (if you're not less than 1cm from the curb here you will get scraped and super high curbs you can't mount.)

Justonemorepancake · 03/03/2019 21:15

Bugger, it's kerb isn't it? Or is it?

ANDYHANDY · 03/03/2019 21:17

A long time ago I watched a man directing another driver straight back into a bollard. The driver’s face was a picture. I’m fairly certain that the man giving directions did it deliberately.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 03/03/2019 21:30

Thanks Justone Grin** I'm sure when I was researching makes weeks ago I'd read the dimensions were only slightly bigger than a focus so glad you say that!

ANDY* I can't remember which board but I read a hilarious thread this morning where posters were sharing car disasters. There were some crackers in there!

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 03/03/2019 21:31

I have no idea why I bolded so much of that Hmm
