To be fed up with unsolicited parking “help” from men?

Really I should be posting this on Pistonheads I suppose.

Three times in the past month I have been parking/manoeuvring my car and been pissed off by random strangers - always men- trying to wave me/ beckon me/ direct me/ give me instructions.

I drive a nice car. I am a very confident driver. I am especially good at parking. I also have really good cameras which give me a birds eye view. On no occasion have I looked like I was having trouble or taken a long time.

All the help I need is for them to get out of my fucking way - them standing in front of my car is the only thing holding me up!

I have literally had to wind down the window and ask them to just move and leave me to it each time.

WTF is wrong with these men - and it is always men?

AIBU to find this annoying and really patronising (and sexist)?

Saw a case at work where the wife ran down and killed her husband who was doing that very thing. (Accidentally! But a lesson to them all!!)

I love this!

In almost 30 years of driving I’ve never had a random stranger try to help me manoeuvre, in out or any which way.

My dh says 'left hand down' when watching other people park - wtf does it even mean? Turn the wheel to the left? It sounds ridiculous.

Never happened with parking but recently I was driving somewhere I didn't know (without sat nav or anything). I wasn't lost or worried just trying to get out of a maze of back lanes after my MOT. A man stopped my car and informed me the way I was driving led to a dead end . "Oh ok, thanks for that!" I said.
He then said "well, if you let me hop in I can reverse your car over there and turn it round for you." Erm...no thanks I think I'll be fine, I've been driving a long time and am quite capable of reversing my car.
"Oh my god are you sure? I don't mind doing it for you, it's very narrrow here. At least let me stand behind you and back you up?"
I didn't even bother replying, just threw the car into reverse and backed up like a boss then did a superb 3 point turn. (Even if I do say so myself)
Piss off, mansplainers.

The (well meaning) porter at work used to do this to me, literally leap behind my car as I was backing into a space. The desire to accelerate was overwhelming.

YesQueen · 04/03/2019 14:26

This was mine the other day

the concept of petrol pumps mansplained to me
I’m at the front of the queue and pull to the nearest pump (note not the furthest as usual because there is no unleaded)
Man behind “you need to pull forwards love”
Me “there’s no unleaded” (start to fuel car)
Man shouts out window “move your car forwards, there’s a queue”
Me “there is no unleaded”
Man gets out car “you should always use the furthest pump because ”
I go to pay as he has got back in the car
Man shouts out window “you can pay at pump you know”
Me, clutching cash which funnily it doesn’t take.....
I move off, he angrily pulls to the furthest pump only to note there is no unleaded (funny that!) and can’t fuel up
HmmHmmHmm

Never had it done to me and i drive a big car .I am extremely good at parallel parking it is a standing joke i will get in the space if it is big enough .The only thing i had once was i parked in a very tight space in a car park and a driving instructor was parked opposite me and we both got out our car's at the same time .He had seen me park and said to me that was a superb parking manoeuvre who ever you learnt with taught you well .My driver instructor was brilliant .

AllesAusLiebe · 04/03/2019 19:44

YANBU at all! I had this just the other day. I was taking some cardboard to the recycling centre and was told which bin to use on my way in. I said to the guy, “shall I just pull in behind the car ahead”, and his response was, “no, pull up in front love, otherwise you’ll block the road.”

I wouldn’t have ‘blocked the road’ at all. I would’ve pulled in with perfect symmetry to the car in front. This was clearly an assessment on my capacity to park a car, probably solely based upon the fact that I’m female and driving a large car.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 04/03/2019 21:31

Yep, this happens to me, and I am bloody brilliant at parallel parking - I have had to learn to be, as we only have on street parking, and there are far fewer spaces than residents' cars (and no parked bays, so people park like dickheads.)

It NEVER happens to DH, and he's a much worse parker than me - frequently needs my help.

Prisonbreak · 04/03/2019 21:38

Never had this happen nor ever noticed it happen to anyone else
