To ask the truth about your drug use?

This may seem a silly question but since it’s an anonymous forum I’ll ask anyway. I’ve NC.

If you ever experimented or used drugs, what did you use and what made you choose that drug? I want to have an open conversation with my teenage child about why people may use certain drugs and what situations they will come up in but I don’t have a huge amount of experience on it. I know the internet has information but would like some realistic stories from the ladies of MN.

Used cocaine a bit as a teenager, party related really, not habitual.

Smoked pot, not just in teenage years.

Never took pills (Leah Betts story shown at my school frightened me out of ever wanting to do that).

As for why, probably a combination of group of friends doing the same and wanted to experiment. Also liked it at the time.

I took pills and speed in my early 20s. Got into the wrong kind of lifestyle and was a cocaine, crack and heroin addict for 6 years. Been clean 3 years.
It happened so gradually that by the time I stopped to look at myself I was already at the bottom.
It still affects me, doctors are reluctant to let me have painkillers even in hospital, amongst other things.

I've never tried anything. I hate the thought of being out of control.

I smoked weed and used to eat hash cakes as a student but they made me really paranoid. Haven't touched anything since I was about 20. I did poppers a couple of times as well but they made me feel sick.

I’ve tried weed, coke, speed, MDMA and the worst of all - acid. I was at university living in halls in London, it was 2004 and the club scenes were amazing and just what people did at the weekends. I’m not sure if pills are as readily as available or used in clubs these days. I certainly wouldn’t be taking any now but it was fun at the time. Fond memories.

I smoked weed a lot before having DS as I just preferred it to alcohol so much. I wouldn't use it as much now.

I was the only one of all of the friends that I hung around with that didn't try anything else. I never wanted to, I never would do.

Never tried anything. Not something I have ever fancied, haven’t even smoked.

Each to their own imo but it’s not for me

Pot was cheap & everywhere, everyone I knew used it.
So peer normalisation was main reason for me.
Cocaine was exciting (daft, but there you go). Too expensive.
Ditto LSD. Which did nothing for me. Waste of time.
Amphetamines were common, easy to get, cheap.
I was afraid of heroin & crystalmeth wasn't common then, but thank fig it was a well deserved awful rep now. Do Not Go There.
Opiods were not dead common in 1980s like they are now.

I stopped all that when I was 14 pretty much.

I barely ever drank until I was 25 though.

DC all think drugs are Stoopid (phew). 2 of them have chosen careers where alcohol is only acceptable drug use.

Have never taken drugs. My worst nightmare, I've had horrible effects on prescription drugs where I felt I was flying then dying.

So no never would have when younger and never will.

Also worked with addicts, both drugs and alcohol and it all had to start somewhere.

Never even tried anything. I think what helped was my friendship groups growing up weren't into it and nor were any of my boyfriends.

Speed, ecstasy in my late teens on the party scene. Smoked weed like cigarettes from about 19-25. My ex boyfriends father grew it so we had a basic constant supply. It ruined my mental health and that of my ex husband. I honestly don’t think people are aware of what it can do to you.
Cocaine for nights out once or twice a month. Again, the come downs were horrific and the people I used to do it with (different to my weed friends) mental health is also shot but I don’t think they are aware of how bad.
Haven’t done anything for years now I have children and I honestly don’t miss it, my mind is so much clearer

I had a few puffs on a joint very occasionally in my teens and even more occasionally afterwards (we’re talking maybe 10 times in my life) - because other people were and I wanted to try it/join in/ giggle along with them.

Nothing else because I guess I never really felt the need/dislike the out of control feeling.

Having said that I drank alcohol a lot (still do just not as regularly) and smoked from being 15 (since given up) which are drugs too. Why those? Legal and readily available, socially acceptable, habit.

Weed - first drug I tried. Mainly because everyone else was doing it and then I enjoyed it. The feeling was nice.

Pills/pure MDMA crystals - these were the next drug I did and also because everyone else was doing them and I wanted to see what it was like, not to fit in. Absolutely loved it and did it regularly for two years or so.

Cocaine - I was asked if I wanted to split the price of some with a friend so I did and liked it - too much. Became addicted and couldn't function without it. I liked how it made me feel invincible and full of ideas.

Ketamine - it was funny, took my mind away from things.

Prescription drugs (xanax, oxy etc.) - they completely numbed and dulled my senses, took me away from my feelings which I liked. I didn't have any problems or worries whilst I was on them.

Acid - big mistake. Took because I was curious. Was horrible.

Cocaine a couple of times. MDMA once. Hated both. Speed a few times which I did like- mainly to stop being tired and get the house decorated or whatever I needed to do and had to stay up all night.
Still like a joint now and again but not skunk. Just feel like a chill every so often.

I had space cakes when I was around 20 never had anything before in my life... it was horrible! Paranoia galore!

13 years later I had a spliff... not sure how that made me feel as I was pissed too!

Okay... not a whole spliff may I add just a few drags!

I also like @teeteeb loved cocaine, needed a bit of help coming of it. It is very addicted stuff, I didn’t even realise I was is addicted to it it just sort of happened

Weed- hated it at first as made me very anxious but for some weird reason (probably trying to fit in) my teenage self wanted to like it so kept going until I learnt to enjoy it
Ecstasy- was my favourite- started off in fear and would follow the ‘take a half, don’t be daft’ mantra but by my twenties would take multiple pills at a time and would cut the inside of my mouth up from it
LSD- meh- had a weird hippy boyfriend for a while at uni and he kept going on about how amazing it was but didn’t feel much
Shrooms- only did them once out of curiosity but did enjoy it
And then silly things like poppers and whippits.

smoked a lot of weed in my teens from say 14-19, the very very very occasional joint since (maybe 4 times in the 20 years since). I smoked it because it was very readily available in my house as my stepdad was a grower. i did and still do like the feeling of being a little bit stoned. if it were legal and available i'd do it more probably, but its not, so i don't.
I took speed twice, i was 18 and maybe 20. both times i was with friends who did it regularly so they offered, but it wasn't for me, don't like how it makes me feel at all.

Just weed here. Never wanted to try anything else.

Smoked weed most days from 18 til 26. I had MH problems and it helped calm my anxiety and relax, and I was quite into stoner "culture".

Also tried shroomy, acid and salvia, just out of interest of exploring altered states really.

Used to smoke weed nearly everyday from being around 14. Tried pills and speed a few times as a teen. The worst was once some proper knob gave me something to smoke, and it turned out to be crack (16 at the time and this tool was in his 30s). Realised what it was the next day and never touched it again.

Never tried cocaine - I’m really weird about my nose and can’t even use nasal sprays so it never appealed to me.

Never taken anything. Never felt the need to.

Shrooms not shroomy!

I prefer psychedelics like LSD, mushrooms, 2cb, 2ci and DMT and I have used in high doses and even microdoses as a function and productivity booster. I've tried most of the amphetamines like speed, mdma, cocaine, ketamine and I like them for a bit of fun and only use recreationaly. I use cannabis in various forms every day.
