Oh My GOD - he's live and I thought I'd listen in.. and I can't bear more than 5 seconds. I heard him say something about Nancy Pelosi in a sneering tone and thought 'this is what presidential speeches are now?' Its live around the world and he's just... I can't put it into words but I know you all know what I mean Sad

This sums it all up...

Jim Acosta, who the president doesn’t like, asks Trump why he is declaring a national emergency at a time when statistics show undocumented immigration has just dropped to its lowest level in a decade.

“You don’t really believe that stat do you?” Trump says. That stat comes from his own government.

Trump says he has seen statistics which contradict the numbers reported by the government’s Customs and Border Protection bureau.

The president is asked where he is getting those statistics from.

“I use many stats,” Trump says.

Hey guys. I've not been on here for yonks (too much crazy going on), but as soon as I saw about the national emergency business I knew this was the place to ask about it. So...has Trump just gone full on dictator? Confused

Yes, full on dictator and diverting funds from drug programs, military construction making a total of $8billion so the Guardian says. Let's hope it all gets tied up in knots in the Courts and then he'll be gone!

Declaring a NE is a presidential option Bigly, so I wouldn't classify it as 'full dictator' quite yet. But he's certainly pushing the limits of presidential perquisites for his own financial gain.

To me, full dictator would be suspending habeas corpus, suspending free elections, restricting freedom of movement, forced forfeiture of assets, or declaring martial law. We aren't quite there yet and TBH I really don't think that will happen. I think he's going to push and dance on the line to wring as much cash as he can for himself and his cronies, then he's going to ride off into the sunset leaving the Country (and its citizens) financially and environmentally decimated. I guess I see him as more of a 'plague of locusts' than the 'angel of death'. I haven't felt the need to smear lamb's blood on my doorframe (yet).

It's seems like both sides of the pond are imploding right now. It just gets more and more ridiculous.

I suppose nobody ever plans for a Trump do they cosie? Everyone assumes a certain level of reasonableness would be needed to become president or leader, which is exactly how dictatorships happen time and again.

So did he sign the bill to stop shutdown and the NE as well?

Sing, I believe he signed the spending bill to keep the Govt open so Feds are being paid. It has a veto proof majority so even if he doesn't sign, Congress can override. The NE doesn't affect the shutdowns or budget. It may affect future jobs as quite a bit of the money Scrotus may -steal- 'redirect' is money intended for projects that would employ many people in many different job categories.
