Periods returned 10 weeks pp. I feel cheated!

I recall, months ago, my mother telling me to look forward no periods for months after giving birth.

Two weeks ago, at 10 weeks pp, with a very hungry ebf baby and a freezer full of expressed milk, my period returned.

AIBU to feel utterly cheated (and slightly naive)? And also to ask, whether this happened to anyone else and if they were regular (or if I can hold out hope that this may be a one off!)

My ds is 2.5 and my periods still haven't returned. I'm wondering if I should be worried by now.....

QueenofmyPrinces · 14/01/2019 21:00

With my first EBF baby they returned at 13 weeks after his birth and settled into their normal regular cycle straight away.

With my second EBF baby my periods didn’t come back until he was 15 months old. It was bliss!

SoupDragon · 14/01/2019 21:01

I was ripped off by the no periods myth too.

LokiBear · 14/01/2019 21:01

Mine did too. And the affected my milk supply and made dd2 very fussy. Bastarding mother nature!

Mookatron · 14/01/2019 21:02

It might go away again. Mine did something like that.

SwagQueen · 14/01/2019 21:02

@SoupDragon even my midwife told me I would likely have no periods until DS started on solids...

Lies.

@LokiBear do you mind me asking why/how it affected your milk supply? I'd hate for that to happen!

My baby is 4 months now and I had my first period when she was 15 weeks. She's EBF too. I was annoyed too and I'm sure it's affecting my milk supply. But I'm now 'late' this month although having cramps so I expect I will have another period but I don't think my cycle is regular yet.

LokiBear · 14/01/2019 21:06

I couldnt express as much and dd2 would kept pulling off and getting frustrated. Once my period was over it went back to normal. I never got to the bottom of why. I went back to work at 7 months so moved to ff at 6 months.

Onglue · 14/01/2019 21:07

Mine came back after 4 months with DC1 and after 2 months with DC2. Both EBF.

TickleMeEmo · 14/01/2019 21:07

Mine returned 6 weeks PP despite ebf :(
I found that my boob would feel emptier and DS would get fussy a couple of days beforehand and would just feed constantly and have funny poos and then everything would return to normal the last day or 2 of my period... I mentioned it to HV but she said there wasn’t any link to my cycle starting again but it happened every time I had a period.

Onglue · 14/01/2019 21:08

Mine were regular straight away as well.

Aprilshowerswontbelong · 14/01/2019 21:08

4 weeks!!
4 friggin week pp.
Every time!

SwagQueen · 14/01/2019 21:09

I had PMT last week too and have a diagnosis of PND on my records because of it!

Baby 1 - periods came back at 8 months
Baby 2 - 10 months
Baby 3 - 12 months

Each time it coincided with my babies self weaning.

TakeMe2Insanity · 14/01/2019 21:09

6 weeks for me :(

SwagQueen · 14/01/2019 21:10

@JurassicGirl well I don't like you very much right now.

whatsthepointthen · 14/01/2019 21:10

mine came back within 6 weeks all 4 times despite EBF.

Aquamarine1029 · 14/01/2019 21:10

I ebf'd all of my children, and my period started 4 weeks postpartum every single time and then regular like clockwork. I was so irritated.

LouH1981 · 14/01/2019 21:10

Hi, yes it happened to me, maybe even sooner (it was a blur!). I was so shocked I thought maybe I was haemorrhaging after my section.
But no, just AF, and business as usual thereafter. Someone told me it might mean you are super fertile. (Although we have struggled to conceive since so 🤷🏻‍♀️) xxxxx

SwagQueen · 14/01/2019 21:11

I was also sold the idea that my periods would be lighter.

Lied.

Mine came back 4months pp with ebf twins and again after 4 months with a singleton. (Be careful: breastfeeding makes twin conception more likely!)

Before my period and for the first few days, I had less milk. Still enough, but babies used to feed more to up the supply (I assume). I also got bf aversion later on (when they were toddlers), when I had pmt.

mindutopia · 14/01/2019 21:12

Yep, 12 weeks here, despite ebf. Mine’s never even had a bottle. Fed from the tap around the clock, but I’m right on time every month! I didn’t even get my period back that soon with my first who was ff from 6 weeks.

namechangedtoday15 · 14/01/2019 21:13

My twins were born at 6 months (12 weeks prem) and despite exclusively breastfeeding / expressing every 3 hours day and night, my periods came back after 4 weeks.

So for a twin pregnancy which were exclusively breastfed for 12 months, I missed a total of 7 periods from start to finish!! Damn!!

Whatififall · 14/01/2019 21:13

7 weeks for me. I had lochia bleeding for the full 6 weeks, despite everyone I know telling me that “they” say you bleed for 6 weeks but you really don’t. I did. Then had 1 week off then boom regular periods again.
