to think piercing of childrens ears should be banned

why why why would anyone want to do this to a three year old????? I went to a childrens party at the weekend, there was a lovely little girl there with the most awful blingy "diamond" earings pulling her ears down - ear piercing hurts, it is tantamount to child abuse IMO.

NoodleStroodle · 26/06/2007 19:01

Trinity - no snorting please

nomdeplume · 26/06/2007 19:02

god i HATE ear piercing on kids.

Dunno about 'child abuse' but it is certainly tacky and unnecessary

DANCESwithnewlytannedlegs · 26/06/2007 19:03

Anyone want a revel(must nibble first and give it back if it's an orange cream one though....)?

NoodleStroodle · 26/06/2007 19:03

Like Nom I don't think child abuse but it is...common & chavvy

SauerKraut · 26/06/2007 19:03

Own choice after age 16 for my lot!

PinkTulips · 26/06/2007 19:03

what, no butter?

MrsMar · 26/06/2007 19:03

hmmm not keen on it myself, but I'm a total hypocrite as I badgered my mum in to total submission when I was 6(!) to have mine done, I must be pretty persuasive cos she let me (double !!) I had loads of icky infections all through my childhood in my earring holes... ewww!

MrsMar · 26/06/2007 19:04

oh and dances... how naughty are you nibbling the revels before passing them on?

PinkTulips · 26/06/2007 19:04

for what it's worth i had mine done at 5 after hounding my mom for a year and i will be letting dd have them as soon as she asks and is able to understand that it will hurt and they need to be cleaned.

dollyk · 26/06/2007 19:05

I think there is nothing wrong with getting it done but when babies have it done it dont look very nice.

RedFraggle · 26/06/2007 19:05

Not child abuse, but deeply tacky in my extremely humble opinion. Also rather unfair as whatever happened to an individuals right to choose?

Can I have some popcorn please DragonFaerie?

Mercy · 26/06/2007 19:05

So is it 'chavvy' when a Southern European, Asian or African child has their ears pierced?

charliecat · 26/06/2007 19:06

I think it looks vile on adults and childen and I wonder whether they would pierce my 3 month old babies nose/lip. And if not why not?
what IS the difference?

UCM · 26/06/2007 19:06

Out of interest if I put a needle through my 3 years olds ear, would that be abuse or is it only not abuse if someone else does it IYKWIM?

mumto3girls · 26/06/2007 19:06

I think it should be illegal until perhaps 10 or 11. Hate to see lovely little girls with earings in.

nomdeplume · 26/06/2007 19:07

IMO, Mercy, yes. Chavvy not a word I'd use, but I still think it is just as inappropriate whatever the child's race/cultural heritage

dollyk · 26/06/2007 19:07

I really cant stand it when little boys have it done

MrsMar · 26/06/2007 19:07

PT, you must have been as "persuasive" as I was (ie begging, pleading and generally whining until you get your own way) at 5/6!!
