I’m too excited to sleep.
It’s only (just) the 23rd December and I’m 38 for fucks sake.
I have a dS who “gets” it for the first time this year and it’s so magical. Some of the most heart warming exciting moments of my life were Xmas mornings when I was little, my bike, and the dolls house my dad made fromnoff cuts at work.
Agh.
I just want Xmas now! I want to see his face! All I’ll do for the next 48 hours is spoil him more ! No good cam come from this!
Please tell me ianbu!

Those early years are so amazing. Enjoy every second of your excitement.

Pieceofpurplesky · 23/12/2018 00:56

Yanbu I don't think I slept the first year DS really understood. He was so excited and it was totally magical.
I don't get how some people don't want this for their children (other thread)

DramaAlpaca · 23/12/2018 00:58

Awww, that's so sweet. Enjoy it, they grow up too quickly.

LiquoricePickle · 23/12/2018 01:07

I'm 30 and my toddler is still too little and I still feel this way@

Tony2 · 23/12/2018 01:08

Oh I envy you in the absolute nicest possible way. You are just so reasonable, it's gorgeous ain't it! Have fun.

Lalliella · 23/12/2018 01:17

YADDDNBU! What a wonderful and magical time for you! Mine are too grown up now to have that same feeling. Make the very most of it whilst it lasts. A very happy Christmas to you Xmas Smile

BananasAreTheSourceOfEvil · 23/12/2018 01:21

Oh just enjoy every second!

charis · 23/12/2018 01:42

YANBU. Good for you. I loved every single Christmas with my DS from the time he (autistic / previously non verbal) demanded to get up and see the tree again at midnight to the discovery of presents at four a.m Gin which led to the day starting then.

What a lovely post. Will you report back? 💐 Ooh, and don't forget to track Santa with NORAD if that's still a thing and it hasn't been ruined by drones.

Tattletale · 23/12/2018 01:53

Enjoy it OP. My eldest now knows that FC doesn't exist but my youngest still believes, although I think it will be her last year as she is now 9. Spoil him as much as you can as they really do grow up so fast!

BusterGonad · 23/12/2018 04:52

Have a wonderful Christmas, it's a time to really spoil your children, I don't just mean materially but in love and attention and everything a loving family does! 😍

Mossyhill · 23/12/2018 05:04

Aww this is so lovely. I’m excited this year, as it’s our first as a family of 3.

maddiemookins16mum · 23/12/2018 05:34

Oh and if any of you have ‘Alexa’, don’t forget to ask her ‘how many sleeps until Christmas’. Santa comes on!!!

Nodnol · 23/12/2018 06:00

It’s lovely isn’t it? My youngest doesn’t believe anymore so this is the first Christmas where Santa isn’t the most important lol.

Enjoy your magical Christmas

HalfBloodPrincess · 23/12/2018 06:06

I can’t wait! I have 2 teens who haven’t believed for years and it started to get a bit, not boring, but not as special.

This year I have a toddler as well, he’s only 18 months so doesn’t really understand (but knows something is going on) but I’m so excited to do all the Father Christmas stuff again! Even the teens seem a bit more animated!

Merry Christmas, and I hope you and your lovely ds have the most magical day!

Kittykat89 · 23/12/2018 06:41

YADNBU it's wonderful! My 11 month old hasn't a clue and I am still suuuper excited! Think I will be the same as you when he gets it! 2 years from now do you reckon, or 3?

BellaGoth · 23/12/2018 06:44

Didn't sleep a wink last night, mine are 5 and 2. Grin

SageYourResoluteOracle · 23/12/2018 06:49

Oh I love it too! Just seeing DD age 7's joy even at the anticipation of our 7 hour train journey to granny and grandpa's yesterday. She's just thrilled to be here and will be lavished with attention and gifts (I blame my sister...I think she's bought DD a set of quidditch robes... Grin) She's the child I never thought I'd have and all I really want is to spend time with her these next two weeks! And she'll be the only child in the house so super extra spoiled!! (For context, she's polite, doesn't demand attention or fancy gifts and is great company for adults and children alike.)

pancaketosser · 23/12/2018 06:53

I find these few years great because they get a whole new load of discovery and excitement each year. My 4 year old I think vaguely remembers last Christmas but lots of stuff has still been 'new' and exciting.

SnugglySnerd · 23/12/2018 06:56

I can't wait either! I've already got the Xmas tunes on (quietly) and the dcs are watching one of the CBeebies Xmas shows on iplayer. Love Christmas!

Spudlet · 23/12/2018 06:59

I didn't think DS really got it... i took him to see Santa at the garden centre earlier in the week, and ds (who is nearly three and has a speech delay) was a bit overwhelmed, wouldn't really engage etc.

Anyway, yesterday we had to make an emergency garden centre trip and as we turned into the car park a voice piped with with 'Ah-ah! HO HO HO!' So he's obviously taking in more than I thought!

DannyWallace · 23/12/2018 07:07

Sorry but this is just too lovely! YADNBU.
All you hear about is people getting do stressed at this time of year.
So no, you enjoy every second!!! ❤️❤️merry Christmas!!

Pythonesque · 23/12/2018 07:09

Enjoy the Christmas magic! But yes you can stil have magical Christmases in different ways when they get older. My children and I(*) will be singing together at midnight service for the 2nd time this year - for us that is also magically special.

(*) Just need to get rid of a cold that has tried to turn into a cough overnight :(

brizzledrizzle · 23/12/2018 07:11

That's so sweet, enjoy your excitement Xmas Grin

Janecon · 23/12/2018 07:21

That's so lovely. Enjoy every minute x

OvO · 23/12/2018 07:27

I’m 38 too and have just come to bed as I’ve spent all night making a bloody scavenger hunt and puzzles to be solved by my 14 year old on Christmas Day! Ridiculous! Xmas Grin

He’s not getting a pile of presents so I’ve made the hunt/puzzles so he has to search out his present. It makes it a bit more fun rather than jus handing over an envelope.

I don’t get less excited as they get older. Xmas Blush
