Aibu to get pre-made veg this year?

I’m seriously considering getting all the vegetables for Christmas dinner from M&S this year. I usually spend bloody hours peeling, marinating, chopping etc- and (other than roasties which are sacred) am thinking of getting all the pre made stuff this year. Firstly aibu - and secondly - any good recommendations

M & S carrot and swede crush. To die for. Not mash, crush.

Letthenamesbegin · 21/12/2018 22:05

Ooh that sounds lovely

M&S red cabbage.

Letthenamesbegin · 21/12/2018 22:12

Has anyone tried the sprouts?

I got pre prepared sprouts and carrot batons from m&s along with cauliflower cheese Star

Elllicam · 21/12/2018 22:22

The sprouts are nice. As is the potato dauphinois. We are picking up our order in the morning.

arranbubonicplague · 21/12/2018 22:23

Sounds eminently sensible.

OrigamiZoo · 21/12/2018 22:26

Do it, I hate prep too, it's only one day.

Leeds2 · 21/12/2018 22:27

All of my Christmas dinner is sourced from M&S. I will be collecting in between 7 and 7:30pm tomorrow evening!

babysharkah · 21/12/2018 22:47

It's al so bloody easy I won't go back and I love cooking usually.

Billabong21 · 21/12/2018 22:52

I’ve ordered the whole lot prepared from Morrisons. I don’t feel guilty about it and I’m not cooking it.

HildaSnibbs · 21/12/2018 22:53

Just do it - we've got all ours pre-made from Cook this year and I'm so happy that all I have to do is open oven, shove it in! Merry Christmas all! Xmas Grin

Letthenamesbegin · 21/12/2018 23:23

Hilda - let me know how you get on with cook. We have one within two minutes walking distance but didn’t like something from there once and hadn t gone back since

Marmite sprouts from Iceland (though I'm actually going to turn the into soup).
Roasting root veg from Iceland.
Steamed veg parcel things from Iceland.
Frozen mash from Iceland.
I don't see the point in spending most of the day chopping, washing, mashing, boiling and peeling a load of veg when there's toys to be opened, chocolate to be eaten, wine to be drunk and other food to be cooked. It's one day so why make hassle for yourself?

HollySwift · 21/12/2018 23:44

That’s exactly what I’ve done! I want lots of nice veg but I don’t want to be in the kitchen all day so this is the one day of the year I buy prepared! As you say though, roasties are sacred and I will be doing them myself.

BlueJava · 21/12/2018 23:53

I always get pre-prepped veg at Xmas, it's about spending time together not chopping for hours!

thefraggleontherock · 22/12/2018 00:00

I'm doing exactly that this year. Usually make everything from scratch but I've ordered the deluxe veg pack and I collect on monday!

Figmentofimagination · 22/12/2018 00:16

It's just 3 of us for Christmas this year, 2 adults and a toddler. I've bought frozen veg, no need for the hassle.

azulmariposa · 22/12/2018 00:50

Go for it! It's a stressful day and any little thing to help out is worth it

Kintan · 22/12/2018 00:55

Why wouldn’t you if you had the option! It means you’ll be able to relax and enjoy the day more. We always get prepared stuff from Cook and M&S. I do think Cook is better for vegetables and desserts, and M&S for the meat/fish stuff.

sparkli · 22/12/2018 07:10

That's what we've done this year. Picked it all up yesterday in m&s. Anything to make life easier - and no washing up pots, either 😁

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 22/12/2018 07:57

I'm going to buck the trend.
Peeling veg is not difficult and not that timeconsuming and freshly prepared veg will taste better. (I make my own pigs in blankets too)

rookiemere · 22/12/2018 07:59

OP don't go to COOK. I bought some prepared sprouts and turkey gravy last year and they were disg. M&S all the way.

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 22/12/2018 08:12

I know everyone will recoil in horror but we are having Aunt Bessies duck fat roast potatoes this year Xmas Blush I'm doing everything else fresh though

Minniemountain · 22/12/2018 08:20

We are. But the sprouts will only be ready trimmed. We got fancy shredded ones from M&S last year. Not nearly as good as whole ones.
