Aibu to get pre-made veg this year?

I’m seriously considering getting all the vegetables for Christmas dinner from M&S this year. I usually spend bloody hours peeling, marinating, chopping etc- and (other than roasties which are sacred) am thinking of getting all the pre made stuff this year. Firstly aibu - and secondly - any good recommendations

I make my own pigs in blankets too

As in you make sausages?

NonaGrey · 22/12/2018 08:27

Who will know or care?

Don’t beat yourself up for making a perfectly reasonably decision of time vs money.

There is absolutely no virtue in having spent ages preparing vegetables.

rookiemere · 22/12/2018 08:29

I'm not sure why homemade pigs in blankets would taste any better than shop bought ones as its only bacon wrapped round a sausage.

I buy everything pre made. Family ignores the vegetables anyway so I'm not going to expend effort on them. I won't use frozen brussel sprouts though as they are rank and Aunt Bessies roasties taste better than M&S expensive Christmas ones.

hammeringinmyhead · 22/12/2018 08:30

Yanbu. I have a 7 week old DS so we went to M&S on Thursday and blew £100 on food for three of us.

Grimbles · 22/12/2018 08:33

Everything's pre-prepared so just needs bunging in the oven. I've better things to do then stand in the kitchen chopping and peeling all morning.

Avis7 · 22/12/2018 08:36

M&S all the way. Saves me hours of peeling, chopping and washing up. It's not any more expensive than it would be if I bought then at the supermarket because I can't just chuck every little thing that looks delicious in my trolley.

Fatted · 22/12/2018 08:37

I have only ever used frozen vegetables. I have better things to do with my time, like actually spend time with my young children playing with their toys on Christmas. And drinking Baileys and eating chocolate.

M&S all the way too. We also can’t be bothered with the faff and would rather spend time with each other and not slaving away over a stove. I collect mine at 7am Christmas Eve.

Also once you start you can’t go back! I look forward to October 6th (usually) to get my orders in and a good a slot - always reassuring to know my food shop is done. I’m clearly very sad 🤣

Onlyjoinedforthisthread · 22/12/2018 08:46

No way would I use prepared veg, due the extra packaging and expense. Nothing to do with enjoying the peace and a bottle glass of wine in the kitchen away from over excited family and in-laws.
Home made pigs in blankets much better as it is decent Cumbrian Cumberland sausage and decent bacon not cheap crap you get in ready made.

I do say do what the hell you want and if any one complains they can sort everything next year

E20mom · 22/12/2018 09:10

I get M&S pre prepared veg every year. It's the way to go!

EnglishGirlApproximately · 22/12/2018 09:25

I’m not going to judge, we had party food last year as DP only gets one day off so we don’t want to spend it cooking GrinBlush We’re having the full dinner this year but whatever can be pre made is. I love cooking and if we had a two week break would be happy to spend time prepping but not when times short. Tbh., it tastes almost as good anyway if you get decent quality stuff.

Girlsnightin · 22/12/2018 09:25

Cook veg for us this year. Had a trial run and they were great.

Wheresmrlion · 22/12/2018 09:31

We got all ready made from m and s last year. Quite disappointing to be honest, a lot of veg all different sizes so didn’t cook evenly and ended up with a choice of burnt or hard. And the Wellington was nowhere near as nice as homemade.

So we’re doing our own this year, only three of us so not much hassle really and will do the chopping on Christmas Eve. I quite like prepping veg with the carols on.

Having said that we are doing some cheats this year, ready made gravy and red cabbage are great.

BitOutOfPractice · 22/12/2018 09:36

YABU to have not done it before now

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 22/12/2018 09:39

Can’t easily get prepared stuff here so will be cooking from scratch and envying all of you with a M&S nearby! I reckon everyone should just do what works for them.

howabout · 22/12/2018 09:41

Only thing which makes me think about this is that pre prepared takes up a lot of room in the fridge and the oven.

M&S red cabbage is yummy though.

EmmaJR1 · 22/12/2018 09:55

I have...
the guard of honour lamb
The prepped veg
Pigs in blankets
Stuffing in bacon.

I can not be arsed with faffing this year!

Santasonmynaughtylist · 22/12/2018 09:55

YANBU - M&S also have goose fat coated potatoes ready to chuck in the oven, I succumbed.

RangeRider · 22/12/2018 10:09

Bloody hell that's just reminded me that I don't know if I have enough frozen roast potatoes in the freezer!!
Runs to check......

BikeRunSki · 22/12/2018 10:12

DM got pressed everything last year, except the meat.

It was delicious, no stress, everyone happy. It was her Christmas present to herself.

Bluearsedfly36 · 22/12/2018 10:40

I've pre ordered mine from Morrison's to pick up Monday. Got buffet food and puddings, two cheeseboards too 😊

AlphaJuno · 22/12/2018 11:53

The one thing I always buy that makes life easier is cubed carrot and swede for mash. Everything else I do myself but doesn't take long because it's only for 2 adults and 3 dcs but they don't have massive portions.

Starheart · 22/12/2018 12:18

Pre prepared definitely makes life easier the only thing I like about doing my own prep etc is that I get to make more generous portions of everything and use the left overs the next day to save me cooking again.

I always make my own since I only eat sausages with 97% meat and good quality bacon, so I do think they taste better.

I dislike frozen veg so definitely wouldn't be using them for Christmas lunch.

RoxytheRexy · 22/12/2018 12:28

Me, DH, 3 year old and 8 day old are getting everything pre done and delivered tomorrow. We have enough to do this year
