Has anyone done it?

Hate the space it takes up in the kitchen !

Well, people managed it long before microwaves were invented!

JacquesHammer · 19/12/2018 19:40

Of course it is :)

masterandmargarita · 19/12/2018 19:40

What you need a microwave for?

NorthEndGal · 19/12/2018 19:42

Why would you need a microwave?

EvenLongerFuckedUpnessAhead · 19/12/2018 19:43

We haven't had a microwave for over 15 years.

We did BLW and just gave them some of whatever we were having.

No mush, no microwave, worked perfectly.

SoyDora · 19/12/2018 19:44

I have weaned two children without a microwave, but confused as to what I would need one for?!

UnderMajorDomoMinor · 19/12/2018 19:44

Yes, I don’t understand how microwaves and weaning are linked!

Purplejay · 19/12/2018 19:44

We did blw too.

Why do you think a microwave might be essential?

Surely whether you mush it or not, it is just some veg or what you are having..

newmun · 19/12/2018 19:49

We dont have one but lots of family keep saying “oooh youll need a microwave when you start weaning”

I spose just for heating up pureed veg ?

OP posts:
Ahberdhoom · 19/12/2018 19:52

I used a little Turkish coffee pot to heat up tiny portions on the cooker. Suppose microwave would be a bit easier.

Believeitornot · 19/12/2018 19:53

I did like the convenience of a microwave eg heating up things quickly but that wasn’t specific to weaning!

Jebuschristchocolatebar · 19/12/2018 19:54

Unless a microwave is your only cooking appliance then no you don’t need one. Assume you have a hob and a few saucepans?

ChaoticKate · 19/12/2018 19:55

We don’t have a microwave, just a very unreliable old aga and a kettle. We’ve managed fine doing baby led weaning.

ViragoKnows · 19/12/2018 19:56

People are always saying you “need” microwaves for bloody everything Grin

Just give family food and finger foods. If you have portioned tubs of puree or jars, standing them in a saucepan of hot water works fine. You don’t want them scalding hot anyway.

Bigonesmallone3 · 19/12/2018 19:56

U don't need a microwave??
Surely u have a hob

bourbonbiccy · 19/12/2018 20:00

YANBU you don't need a microwave at all

JudasPrudy · 19/12/2018 20:03

Brace yourself for a thousand posts telling you that you should BLW and how purées are awful by virtue of the fact that they are 'mush', despite the fact that WHO advise that children are initially offered smooth puréed foods from 6 months with the addition of textured foods and finger foods later. Admit to this though and you'll be accused of shoving jars of mush into your baby and will out yourself as being unhip Shock

greendale17 · 19/12/2018 20:05

What a stupid thread.

ICJump · 19/12/2018 20:05

We didn’t have one for DS. We went down the baby led weaning route so didn’t heat up indervidual portions.

Wooooooooaaaaaaaahhhhhhh · 19/12/2018 20:07

Why would you need a microwave? Just give them whatever you’re eating, purée is a faff (I’ve weaned both ways).

SnuggyBuggy · 19/12/2018 20:08

I don't use a microwave. I either give her some of what I'm having or just defrost some purée during the day in the fridge and bring to room temperature.

UhUhUhDennis · 19/12/2018 20:09

You should not heat pureed food for weaning in a microwave. You get "hot spots" which burn your baby's mouth. Google it. Heat over hot water or put in hot water for a minute or 2.

MisstoMrs · 19/12/2018 20:09

First world problems.

We have never had a microwave. My to my MILs disgust.

babysharkah · 19/12/2018 20:10

No you don't need a microwave. Simple.

crikeycrumbsblimey · 19/12/2018 20:11

I heard this as well - didn’t have one and was fine but people were amazed!
