To be utterly seething and have told this white lie

I live very near 3 large secondary schools and suck up some of the annoying driving that comes with the drop off time.

Today however I was leaving my house (10 mins late which I know is my problem) to go to work to see a woman parked OVER MY DRIVE getting her son out of the car, I tell her I need to go to work.
She says she always does it and there is never a car there, I point out that there is and I need to go to work, she turns round and says she just needs to help little jimmy carry his cello and PE kit to the school.
I’m fuming by this point so turn round and tell her I work for the council (true) and ill just issue her a massive fine as soon as I get into the office (this is bullshit and I have no power to do this at all).

She properly got the hump but did drive off.
WIBU feel a bit embarrassed now Blush

She parked over your drive - that totally out of order even if no car there !! Say whatever it takes to get the CF out your way and to work on time ! Hopefully she won’t do it again.

Escolar · 11/12/2018 09:16

YANBU. Of course it’s not your fault because you were leaving 10 mins late - you can leave your own house at whatever time you like!! She usually gets away with it because you’ve usually left already, but today she didn’t. She should have apologised and moved her car immediately.

jessstan2 · 11/12/2018 09:19

You've done nothing wrong, she should not have parked over your drive and you had great presence of mind to think of that! Well done. She won't do it again.

Hope you've calmed down now. Have a Wine on me (later).

Pachyderm1 · 11/12/2018 09:19

YANBU, what a cheeky mare!

Youmadorwhat · 11/12/2018 09:23

I just can’t understand why little jimmy can’t carry ya own cello and PE Kit fgs! (Assuming he is able bodied of course)🙄

Augusta2012 · 11/12/2018 09:26

That’s brilliant. We have a school on my street. We don’t have drives. But it’s a cul de sac, and if there are no parking spaces left, they just dump there car in the middle of the road so nobody else can come down. Drives me mad. A lot of parking dangerous for crossing children. Can’t understand why the create a danger even for their own children.

ButteryParsnips · 11/12/2018 09:31

Totally justified. She doesn't have a right to block someone's drive. Only ambulances or other emergencies should be doing that, and carrying a cello and PE kit doesn't qualify Grin

Babdoc · 11/12/2018 09:35

In the time she spent arguing with you, she could have simply reversed five feet, let you out of your drive, then moved back again! You were definitely not unreasonable, OP, she was. What a pity you don’t really work in the parking fines department!

Bath9000 · 11/12/2018 09:38

She was trying to be a cf, don't feel bad about it.

WatchingTheWheels85 · 11/12/2018 09:38

I do this all the time on beaches with dog bans. I tell them I'm a dog warden or if I'm feeling a bit chicken I point back at dh and tell them he is an off duty dog warden. They soon move Grin

In the time she spent arguing with you, she could have simply reversed five feet, let you out of your drive, then moved back again! Exactly, was just about to write something similar. Then get a couple of cones from highways department for you to use in the mornings Smile

Fairenuff · 11/12/2018 09:40

Park your own car there the night before so that this doesn't happen again.

BadMoodBoard · 11/12/2018 09:40

Pretty entitled behaviour to make Jimmy's cello your problem...

HeronLanyon · 11/12/2018 09:43

‘White lie’ is such a funny term. You full on lied but in circs of justfiable fury and to get a wrong righted (guess that’s a white lie?). Well done and don’t feel bad. I have done slightly similar but it increased the argument in my case as arguee had even more beef with who I was holding myself out to be (ish) than our original argument !

Itsnotme123 · 11/12/2018 09:43

Good for you for thinking on your feet. I doubt she will park there again. What a CF. She has no right to park over any driveways.

jillybeanclevertips · 11/12/2018 09:47

Not to be sexist, I have seen and experienced situations when a female behind a wheel gets to act as if they answer to no-one, and can be as bitchy as they like..Example, coming out of a supermarket not long ago, the car parked next to mine was so close I couldn't get in my car. The driver was sat in this car, so I asked, If she was leaving ? She replied that she wasn't, when I pointed out to her that I couldn't get in my car her reply was that I shouldn't be so fat. (I am a large woman.) Her window was down, and even though I have never been violent, I was sorely tempted to poke her in the nose. However, by telling her that one day I may loose weight, she on the other hand would always be a nasty, ignorant B. She back out . End of story.

AdoraBell · 11/12/2018 09:58

Absolutely NU. I would definitely park there so the CF has to park elsewhere.

WorraLiberty · 11/12/2018 09:59

And you've never experienced those situations from anyone male, seriously?

If she was parked over the white lines of her bay, then she was automatically wrong. You should have just pointed at her wheels.

BlindAssassin1 · 11/12/2018 10:10

This has happened with the my DCs school near me. Parents parking huge transit vans, 4x4s all over the place with no consideration. Residents have repeatedly complained to the school over the last couple of years and the head has repeatedly ask, very nicely, for parents not to be complete dicks to no avail. Now the police are involved.

Its all very unpleasant and completely avoidable. The school run can turn people into entitled arse hats.

Loyaultemelie · 11/12/2018 10:11

Genius! That was well thought of and not at all unreasonable

littlemeitslyn · 11/12/2018 10:11

Jilly. 🤣

Stephisaur · 11/12/2018 10:18

Does she not have eyes? Ok, there’s not usually a car there (not much you can do about her parking there when you aren’t in) but today there was!

I think you were spot on tbh, what if it had been an emergency? What if an ambulance had been trying to get ONTO your drive?

Some people are just clueless.

trulybadlydeeply · 11/12/2018 10:19

Brilliant, well done OP.

You're now going to have to leave 10 minutes late every day to make sure she doesn't do it again Grin

HeronLanyon · 11/12/2018 10:23

I officially hate parking angst (love a good man thread with diagram though). Recently lost my lovely ma and spent an hour to so recently seething at whoever it was who had parked in her space - had so much to do but just kept staying out the window think how disrespectful it was etc etc. Really upset me ! (No practical problem was being caused by the thoughtless bastard)
