To be utterly seething and have told this white lie

I live very near 3 large secondary schools and suck up some of the annoying driving that comes with the drop off time.

Today however I was leaving my house (10 mins late which I know is my problem) to go to work to see a woman parked OVER MY DRIVE getting her son out of the car, I tell her I need to go to work.
She says she always does it and there is never a car there, I point out that there is and I need to go to work, she turns round and says she just needs to help little jimmy carry his cello and PE kit to the school.
I’m fuming by this point so turn round and tell her I work for the council (true) and ill just issue her a massive fine as soon as I get into the office (this is bullshit and I have no power to do this at all).

She properly got the hump but did drive off.
WIBU feel a bit embarrassed now Blush

Yanbu

The cello isn't going to be full size though, they don't have a 4/4 until they are about 14. Even if they are 5 the cello is either going to be a little smaller/a little larger than a ruler as a 1/10 and 1/8 cello are both c. 30cm long.

Its not just the cello though although our 1/4 size had a hard case which was huge, its the school bag and PE kit. She always carried the instrument but I'd help with the rest of the crap - but I never ever parked like a prat Grin

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 11/12/2018 16:21

Well if she's a MNetter you won't be able to use that threat again - but then she will also be able to read what we all think about her ignorant parking. YANBU. Next time, take a photo which clearly shows her reg and how she's parked and leave her a note to say you've done that and now reported to the police - and do it. You're simply not allowed to block a driveway.

ADropofReality · 11/12/2018 17:34

Given when entitled mum gets home "a massive fine from the council" will not be on her doormat, will she work out it was a lie and so think she can do the same again with impunity?

WhoWants2Know · 11/12/2018 17:41

So if your handbrake were to fail and your car (parked on private property) rolled into hers and left a huge dent... Whose fault would it be?

HeronLanyon · 11/12/2018 22:54

adropof don’t encourage op !! Wink

Moominmammacat · 12/12/2018 17:25

I live opposite a school and someone parked across my drive a few years ago so me and my neighbour blocked her in. Then hid around the corner to watch her rant. It's so rude, the parking, that is ...

mrbreezeet1 · 12/12/2018 17:55

no, the heck with her.
I'd A told her the white lie too, or called the police.
it was rude of her to expect you to wait.
make the boy A few minuets laye, and You go around the block(Her)

N2986 · 12/12/2018 17:59

I once had someone beep and swear at me because I wouldn't move up and block someone's drive so he could squeeze in. Madness! Confused

purplebunny2012 · 12/12/2018 17:59

YANBU. SWBU to park over your drive - she's a moron

timeisnotaline · 12/12/2018 17:59

Unreasonable? Genius!

ToftyAC · 12/12/2018 18:01

It is illegal and she was totally in the wrong.... I’m going to remember this one to use myself Grin

Ilikeknitting · 12/12/2018 18:02

Stealth boast that you beat a school mum prick. Yes you were right.

jo3009 · 12/12/2018 18:02

You need to take the registration of the car and report to the school. She was being a Cf!

Jaxhog · 12/12/2018 18:05

She properly got the hump but did drive off.

Result! I'd also put a bollard there too.

taratill · 12/12/2018 18:06

jillybean
Not just women! You are being incredibly sexist!
I've had it happen twice. Once a woman who was apologetic and bought me flowers the following day because she felt bad and once a man who called me a cunt! (I complained to the school about him).

OP you've done nothing wrong. I agree with a previous suggestion to photo reg plates, you can also raise it with the school(s)

Gth1234 · 12/12/2018 18:09

no its not right, but a far as I know, there isn't much you can do in law.

AtomicSquirrel · 12/12/2018 18:10

Why on earth would you feel embarrassed? She's a CF, end of.

Squidgee · 12/12/2018 18:13

@EdisonLightBulb I wonder if you're fairly local to me, I can't think anywhere else would be stupid enough to build two primary schools opposite each other on the same road as a big Secondary...

I8toys · 12/12/2018 18:14

I live next to a primary - I'm going to use this the next time some CF parks over my drive. I've had but I'll only be 5 minutes - I don't give a shiney shit - move it or walk!

DarkDarkNight · 12/12/2018 18:17

YANBU. I live opposite a large Secondary School and don’t mind people dropping off and picking up but a small majority are just selfish wankers. They block my drive and make no effort to move, one man parks right on the corner of a busy junction every morning completely blocking our view of oncoming traffic.

I get to work fuming most of the time because people stop right across the junction when the traffic lights are on Red which is basically the one chance to get out because it is otherwise so busy.

ChimesAtMidnight · 12/12/2018 18:27

Friend of mine owned a car service centre. If you parked across his dropped kerb he called out the tow truck and you'd come back to find your car moved to somewhere rather less accessible.

PyongyangKipperbang · 12/12/2018 18:28

Well when I was a kid, I started cello at aged 8 and I managed to carry it to school, including al the other crap, for the next 6 years with no help.

No wonder so many kids are growing up either weedy and needy or fat and demanding.

StoneofDestiny · 12/12/2018 18:35

Contact the Head in all cases where parent parking is an issue - ask they get a text/letter out to all parents. They can get community cops out to to be a presence at drop off/pick up times. It's crass behaviour - especially at Secondary Schools where kids are old enough to walk greater distances from school gates.

ToftyAC · 12/12/2018 18:50

@whowants2know - my DP knows someone who did something similar. Old fella lived near a school and was pissed off with folk either parking on or over his drive. Asked a chap to get his car off the drive & the other bloke (doing the school run) refused. Old chap got his keys, got in his car and backed into the dad doing the school run. Old fella rang his insurers saying he wasn’t expecting another car to be there. When the claims handler finished laughing, he told old chap that it was the other bloke’s fault for parking illegally/trespassing.
