Have you contacted the bank?

Butchyrestingface · 11/12/2018 08:15

I thought there was a max of 3 contactless transactions per day to prevent this kind of outcome? Is that just Santander?

Scumbags though. 💐

Pinkyyy · 11/12/2018 08:16

I'm shocked that this has happened. Where were the transactions? Surely everywhere has CCTV, I'd have thought that would have been a real deterrent. I suppose this is why so many people refuse to go contactless. I think you will get the money back though OP if that's any consolation

Autumnsunrise · 11/12/2018 08:16

I'm sure she has now, that's why she knows the payments have been made.

Pinkyyy · 11/12/2018 08:16

Butchyrestingface I don't have a max, I use mine several times a day but I'm with NatWest

Ifailed · 11/12/2018 08:20

if there was a maximum of 3 contactless payments a day, travelling around London would be a nightmare.

SnuggyBuggy · 11/12/2018 08:21

Some people are shitty people

Imma gonna ask Santander next time I’m in about mine then. I’ve been religiously chip and pinning after 3 contactless transactions for years. Confused

AntiHop · 11/12/2018 08:23

This has happened to me except i was pickpocketed. Before I'd even realised, they'd used my cards several times. I reported it as soon as I realised and banks refunded.

Toomanycats99 · 11/12/2018 08:23

I am with Santander and I definitely use it more than 3 times a day. Sometimes it wants a fingerprint / pin when you are in it though so I guess that's the security.....maybe that's the every 3 times.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 11/12/2018 08:24

There isn’t a daily limit on contactless cards! It may ask for your pin occasionally for security but there’s no actual limit on the amount of times you can tap it

Thisnamechanger · 11/12/2018 08:25

I know I'll get the money back but I wanted my card for my weekend away with DP and it makes me SO stabby to think of some little scallywags gleefully grabbing my card and buying as much wank as they possibly could. Angry

Happened to my friend, and despite them eventually going to one of the shops themself and obtaining a copy of the cctv footage, the police have done nothing.

It’s highly likely the person who did this to my friend and you are known to the police, so if they are not arrested for this I am sure they will be t some point.

Hope you get your money back, my friends bank refunded quite promptly

Stumpted88 · 11/12/2018 08:28

Also the limit is 6 for Barclays, well it was when I rang and asked them 2 years ago

pippistrelle · 11/12/2018 08:41

Also the limit is 6 for Barclays

There's no limit now. Well, as long as you have cash in your account.

That sucks, OP. I just can't understand why the people who do this sort of thing think it's okay.

Thisnamechanger · 11/12/2018 08:43

Very, especially since I think I dropped it outside to massive police station.

Bank were fab TBH. They text me asking if I'd spent £28 in Sainsbos at a time I knew I was in my Yoga class with my arse in the air. Grrrrr. Me chakras are all rumpled now. Motherforkers. Angry

SnaccidentsHappen · 11/12/2018 08:47

There definitely is a limit, and if you call your bank and they tell you what that limit is then they shouldn't be, I know we are not allowed to. It will decline at times and you will need to put in your PIN number, it is for security so that your bank knows it is you making the transactions, as no-one else should know your PIN number.

Also sorry this happened to you it's so frustrating but your bank will help you.

Thisnamechanger · 11/12/2018 08:49

I hope they choke on whatever they bought.

theworldistoosmall · 11/12/2018 08:57

It's really shit op when it happens.
If you are with Barclays you can get the card the same day in some branches. I've done it a few times. Called up, got it ordered and told to go into the branch a couple of hours later with ID.

As for a limit, really? I made 6 tube journeys and a couple of bus journeys. 4 shops, a coffee shop, dinner and a couple of drinks out yesterday all on contactless. Actual clothes specific shopping and I make transactions in several stores. The only store that I get asked for the pin every single time is a local small Tesco and of course if the transaction goes over the cap.

I lost between £20 and £60 in a shop

Went back about 20 minutes later when i realised , the cashier who served me said that no one had handed any money in but the customer after me had bent down and picked something up

So its irritating for me but not the end of the world...but at this time of year that could have been someone's Christmas budget blown...or no food for the week

People can be very scummy!!

Thisnamechanger · 11/12/2018 09:04

the customer after me had bent down and picked something up

I just don't get it. Its not theirs.

It's like this weird thing where some people think if they found a wallet they'd keep the cash in it before giving it back as a sort of reward Shock Angry

I have on 3 occasions gone to use the self service checkout in the supermarket and a previous customer has left their card in the payment slot. Just mentioning this to make people aware

SlothMama · 11/12/2018 09:27

I had this happen to me, along with several transactions at William Hill and Amazon, I hope a bus hit the thieving bastards. I did get the money back, but it's the principle!

DailyMailFail101 · 11/12/2018 09:28

@Lilyhatesjaz If you leave your card in Sainsbury’s when the store shuts at night they destroy all the cards left, I have had my card destroyed twice now. I am always forgetting it in the little card reader thing.

MsTSwift · 11/12/2018 09:30

A chap in tampa managed to spend our entire bank account. That was fun
