What was the point of introducing "chip and pin", if contactless basically makes it pointless?

PebbleDashed · 11/12/2018 20:48

You can specifically opt out of contactless cards. They're an obvious security risk.

Printerneedsink · 11/12/2018 21:22

Not sure what you mean mothertruck3r. Chip and pin is much older than contactless.

ReflectentMonatomism · 11/12/2018 21:23

The intent of contactless is to replace cash. Had the op lost their wallet with fifty quid in it, they would have got back nothing. As it is, they didn’t lose a penny. Chip and pin is not viable for, for example, paying bus fares. It is barely viable for drinks across a bar. The comparison is not chip and pin. The comparison is cash.

I did some shopping in Waitrose, and when I went to pay discovered someone's card already in the slot. They had to cancel the entire transaction and rescan it!
