Day 4 post surgery. I am bored out of my skull and have 8 solid weeks to fill.

I’m a bit odd at the mo as i have the concentration span of a privet hedge so keep flitting between Netflix, book, crochet and sleep. Can’t drive for a few weeks at least.

What on can I do?

Get MN to entertain you

Jackshouse · 02/12/2018 09:52

Read. Magazine needs less concentration. Free online uni course. MN. Are you able to go for a little walk yet? Nap. Bake.

NancyDonahue · 02/12/2018 09:52

Colouring, crosswords, sudoku.

Nanalisa60 · 02/12/2018 09:52

You really just need to find the wright box set !! One that takes you to another world

dayakie · 02/12/2018 09:53

Crochet is great - try doing a granny square blanket so you don't get bored of it and can build it up whilst you are recovering. Feel better soon!!!

Iruka · 02/12/2018 09:53

Enter competitions?

DisplayPurposesOnly · 02/12/2018 09:53

MY Christmas shopping online then? Grin

Family history? Surprisingly engrossing, I have found.

Well you haven't left out your sence of humour!!

Learn Japanese!!

PetuliaBlavatsky · 02/12/2018 09:55

I was in the same position earlier this year. I did jigsaws, puzzles, watched Netflix, knitted, listened to audiobooks. It was lovely!

FrederickCreeding · 02/12/2018 09:55

Jigsaws? Can you do puzzles, like Sudoku?
Play an online game? I'm not really into gaming, but I got into Hay Day (farming game!) when I was going through a difficult time. I didn't really have the concentration to read but found the game quite soothing in a mindless sort of way.

GertrudeCB · 02/12/2018 09:55

Go on classics - hours of entertainment 😀Smile

WoodpeckersAreWood · 02/12/2018 09:58

Jigsaws?

I use a jigsaw app. On the iPad. Saves faffing with pieces and easy to swap if I get bored.

Audio books? You get a free one to keep if you subscribe to audible. Or get a friend to get some from the library for you.

Serin · 02/12/2018 09:59

Learn a language! There are loads of free apps to help. Or take up painting/art.
Hope you soon feel better .

Cornettoninja · 02/12/2018 09:59

Are you educationally minded? There’s loads of free courses and apps out there. Podcasts could be good while your crocheting. Any particular areas of interest so people could suggest some?

Can you stand much? Cooking could be good, even sitting at a table for the most part if you need to. Have a bash at baking or a recipe that takes your fancy.

You could also wrap up and sit in the garden to do some of the stuff you’re already doing. Just being outside might help, it’s a shit time of year for recuperating.

MatildaTheCat · 02/12/2018 10:00

Write emails to all your old friends that you have somehow not seen in too long?

Research movies you either wished you’d seen or feel like you should have watched and then start watching.

Catch up on every life admin chore ever but only one at a time because this should be a time to indulge yourself a little.

Sort out all your photos. I’m seven years into an injury and STILL haven’t done this one. Grin

Rest and recover, that’s what you are supposed t be doing. Get well soon.

😂😂😂 very practical OP Grin

Harrykanesrightsock · 02/12/2018 10:07

Grace and Frankie on Netflix. It’s the only thing I could enjoy while in the same predicament. It doesn’t take much thinking about but is funny enough to make time go

doeswhatitsaysonthetin · 02/12/2018 10:11

Start writing your novel

Feefeetrixabelle · 02/12/2018 10:11

Readly app is good. Cross stitch/ embroidery.

Gigglebrain · 02/12/2018 10:12

Outlander on prime? Cooking fever game (it’s very addictive), sudoku on iPad?
Learn to knit, watch lots of terrible Netflix Christmas films(my guilty pleasure).

Birdsgottafly · 02/12/2018 10:15

When my attention span was bad I got into watching things like Tipping point, Monkey lufe/Secret life of the zoo, Upstairs downstairs. None need much concentration and are slower paced.

I also Game and played the farming/restaurant games.

I researched holidays that I'd like to go on and found that you can do them on the cheap. So they aren't out of reach.

Pinkywoo · 02/12/2018 10:16

I wasted days after my surgery reading mumsnet classics, I'd recommend elderly Korean lady!

Petalflowers · 02/12/2018 10:20

I found the first few days after an op, I felt muggy and unsettled (anaesthetic wearing off?). Then I really got i to it, read books, watched a whole series of Downton abbey, brought myself a few pairs of shoes on the Internet, etc. I actually really enjoyed the down time.
