Day 4 post surgery. I am bored out of my skull and have 8 solid weeks to fill.

I’m a bit odd at the mo as i have the concentration span of a privet hedge so keep flitting between Netflix, book, crochet and sleep. Can’t drive for a few weeks at least.

What on can I do?

Catch up on recordings.

YouTube rabbit holes. I find JazzyBum entertaining (really not her target audience!) Prior Attire is great if you are interested in clothing or history. Wood turning ones are weirdly soothing. Just find a starting point and be sucked deeper and deeper. I ended up watching one on fitting point shoes the other day. I don't even like ballet!

Once the general anaesthetic leaves your system, then your concentration will return. It's a real pain I know but think it takes about 7 days? Until then your brain will be cotton wool Sad

Audio books are great.

I got addicted to R4 podcasts when I was recovering from surgery a few years ago. Endless amounts of drama and comedy and often done by really big names, there's some fantastic stuff on there.

Edit Wikipedia. There are lists of gaps and projects you can get involved with. Steer clear of anything political and if you see an edit war brewing then just bugger off to another area.

Learn some new crochet stitches / techniques? I learned TONS post OP a few years ago, in fact it's probably the reason I can do amigurami and granny squares

Grey's Anatomy
Blacklist
Netflix

Feel better soon OP

I would:
learn all of the lines and stations on the London Underground and then where the lines link

Then:
all the sizes of champagne bottles from the standard to the hugest (and how many equivilant bottles in size)

PabloTescobar · 02/12/2018 12:38

Yes to podcasts! There are some really good ones on every subject imaginable.

When I was in a similar situation I recall doing quite a lot of jigsaws online.

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 02/12/2018 12:41

I’m happy to send you a couple of books of short stories if you like? Easier to concentrate on!

Binglebong · 04/12/2018 17:06

Sudden thought - try bookbub. Lots of free or cheap books of varying quality.

Geoguessr. You will be hooked for ages, and will come back to it too.

Guess the name of a place shown on Google maps and pin it in the country/area you think it is in. You need to watch for signs, which side of the road the traffic goes, any language clues etc. I love it! But have to limit my time on it because......

I've had 11 surgeries and done a combined 6 months on bed rest in total, so I'd consider myself an expert. It's surprisingly difficult to find activities that hit the sweet spot between easy, low effort or attention span required but boring and stimulating and intellectually fulfilling but exhausting ones. I'm one of those always go-go-go people in real life that thrives on challenges and multitasking so I get restless and antsy with larger chunks of time and no plans to fill them in. I did best in the early days when I binged watched an entertaining but not overly complex series (I call them "laundry folding shows" for example: Friends, 30 Rock, Parks and Recreation, Coupling, or The Office)
