Day 4 post surgery. I am bored out of my skull and have 8 solid weeks to fill.

I’m a bit odd at the mo as i have the concentration span of a privet hedge so keep flitting between Netflix, book, crochet and sleep. Can’t drive for a few weeks at least.

What on can I do?

I'd love to have time to sort all my photos into photo books.

Also agree with doing an online course.

Enjoy it whatever you decide to do!

WhendoIgetadayoff · 02/12/2018 10:23

I’m with jigsaw app. I often do a jigsaw and listen to podcast on iPad when want to wind down but don’t feel want to start a programme or film. Loads great apps

I had 14 weeks off after an accident once. I was like you after 4 days.

However.

I realised that the in and out of the real world was because I needed to rest.

I would plan my week around my weekly trip to the hospital, around food making in the afternoon, and the rest, i just watched reruns of Seinfeld on the TV, and doing sudoku, and sleeping. I made up the sofa into a day bed, and if I felt dozy, I just slept.

It went really quickly in the end.

alfagirl73 · 02/12/2018 10:24

I totally feel your pain; I'm presuming you had a GA - which actually will be in your system for a while and tends to have the effect of reducing concentration - I was exactly the same.

Go easy on yourself - just do what you fancy in the moment, have lots of box sets etc... ready as your concentration WILL gradually improve. I ended up doing a lot of writing and ultimately wrote a book while I was stuck in bed - there was only so much of other people's work I could enjoy before I had the urge to write my own - rather than relying on other people's creativity to see me entertained, I created my own and because it was mine I could make it as interesting and as exciting as I liked! :-)

Learn BSL!

Bestseller · 02/12/2018 10:29

I'd like to say I'd learn a language or a skill but what I'd actually do is watch West Wing (again) frpm the beginning

lovetherisingsun · 02/12/2018 10:30

Read the Penis Breath thread.

redexpat · 02/12/2018 10:37

Family history?

Nanny0gg · 02/12/2018 10:38

So online courses may be tricky?

Just play online games. Once you start planning moves it'll get your brain working. And listen to lots of music.

PanannyPanoo · 02/12/2018 10:41

How about crocheting for charity - blankets for Africa, Hats for people having chemo, clothes for tiny angel babies -

Whilst eating Christmas snacks and watching an enormous box set - greys anatomy could keep you going for months and needs no attention span.

OneStepMoreFun · 02/12/2018 10:43

Listen to podcasts and audio books
Make a mega bucket list of things to do before you really die Wink
Look at holiday brochures to plan next year
Make pinterest boards for redoing the house
Have a youtube binge of songs from your youth. (I love doing this.)
Write old fashioned Christmas cards

If you're at home, get someone to bring you a bin bag, a box and a drawer of stuff that needs sorting - kitchen drawer or sock drawer. You could kondo the house without leaving your bed.

Beanfield · 02/12/2018 10:43

Marvelous.

More Netflix
On-line course thing
Plan the rest of my life
Photos
Cooking
Write a book

I’ll do that after a nap. I think I peaked too soon

Link for penis breath please? Is it as good as penis beaker? 😂

SofiaAmes · 02/12/2018 10:43

Margaret Mitchell wrote Gone With the Wind while recovering in hospital. It was her first book, so previous experience isn't a prerequisite.

MaidenMotherCrone · 02/12/2018 10:48

Christmas crafting?

Heuschrecke · 02/12/2018 10:51

At this time of year you can watch loads of cheesy Christmas movies - the beauty is you don't really have to concentrate at all, because they all follow the same kind of script! We have a thread here www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/3434411-Christmas-film-adoration-and-rant?pg=1!

Here's the Penis Breath thread www.mumsnet.com/Talk/relationships/3440270-Penis-breath-on-girlfriend, but I think it's going to be zapped soon.

Bombardier25966 · 02/12/2018 10:51

Duolingo is great for languages, and you can do as little as five minutes at a time. I am now fluent in "I eat ice cream for breakfast" in four different languages.

florentina1 · 02/12/2018 10:52

There is a book called Logic Puzzles, which was a life saver for me when I was in Hospital. It was only a £2 something but was quite challenging and stimulating.

whatwouldyoubelikeat28 · 02/12/2018 11:02

Do an edX course in something you've always wanted to learn! Or something strange and exciting just cause it piques your interest! I'd love an enforced holiday where I could do an online course.
You can learn astronomy, business skills, DNA, computing, languages, random things like the art of happiness.... it's so endless!

BlueJava · 02/12/2018 11:05

Cryptic crosswords - or learn how to.

Sexnotgender · 02/12/2018 11:14

Learn a second language? Random I know but could be fun and mentally stimulating.

ThePinkOcelot · 02/12/2018 11:18

God, that sounds like absolute bliss to me at this moment in time.

costacoffeecup · 02/12/2018 11:22
