Question for left handed people

Do you hold mugs in your left hand?

I’m considering getting a mug for my friend and it’s designed for other people to read (‘Shh I’m reading’ type of message) but it won’t work so well for her if she holds it in her left hand.

Yes, I do. I have to steer clear of most 'novelty' mugs too, as all the sticky out bits of them end up in the way of my bottom lip and chin. Feels all wrong drinking out of a mug held in my right hand, like brushing your teeth with the wrong hand.

ilovecherries · 01/12/2018 19:01

Yes, usually. Unless I’m holding something in my left hand (book/pen/phone). It which case the least skilled task (drinking) is sent to my right hand to cope with. But honestly - a lifetime of coping in a right handed world means she will not give a shit about this, I suspect - so buy the mug without another thought. Grin

BiteyShark · 01/12/2018 19:01

Yes I hold mine in my left.

hmmwhatatodo · 01/12/2018 19:03

If your left handed why wouldn’t you hold a mug in your left hand?

hmmwhatatodo · 01/12/2018 19:03

You’re!

PickAChew · 01/12/2018 19:04

I usually hold the mug itself, so nothing would be readable. If I use the handle, I pi k it up by whichever hand is nearest. I might be sippi g a drink while I write a list or something, in which case I'd need my left hand to be mug free, anyhow.

swashbucklecheer · 01/12/2018 19:04

I have my mug of tea in my right atm but only cos I'm on mumsnet on my phone in my left. Otherwise mug would be in left

TakeAChanseyOnMe · 01/12/2018 19:05

You can get mugs that have the writing on both sides.

Haggisfish · 01/12/2018 19:06

I use either hand to hold mug.

agentdaisy · 01/12/2018 19:09

I usually hold it in my right hand, unless the only table is on my left side in which case I hold it in my left hand.

HelloSunshine11 · 01/12/2018 19:09

I drink with my right hand at work as my left is on the mouse. I'm an ambidextrous drinker all the time, now I think about it.

Streambeam · 01/12/2018 19:09

Thanks all! @hmmm she uses cutlery the same way as right handed people, so wasn’t sure if this would apply to drinking as well.

I use my left hand. Using my right just doesn’t feel right, my right hand is useless

Oblomov18 · 01/12/2018 19:11

Ds2 says yes, of course I do mum!! Hmm

weebarra · 01/12/2018 19:12

I use cutlery the same as right handed people. I have just lifted my wine glass, purely for scientific purposes and it's with my left!

TheMadGardener · 01/12/2018 19:12

I'm left-handed. I think I use either hand to hold a mug. Maybe left slightly more often. If I put a plate and a mug on the table I'll put the mug on the left.

Poodles1980 · 01/12/2018 19:14

Left handed and I use either hand for a glass or mug. I’m currently drinking a beer with my right hand

SantaClauseMightWork · 01/12/2018 19:14

I mostly use my left hand too.

Knackerelli · 01/12/2018 19:15

Yup, hold mugs in my left hand. I’d still buy your friend the mug though!

TheBaltictriangle · 01/12/2018 19:19

I hold mine with either hand and swap when needed. Not helpful I know.

bsc · 01/12/2018 19:26

I hold my cup in either hand- whichever is free!

Oh wait, I'm ambidextrous, sorry Grin

Autumnchill · 01/12/2018 19:27

I** drink with my right hand at work as my left is on the mouse. I'm an ambidextrous drinker all the time, now I think about it.

I'm exactly the same. Left handed at work as my mouse is on the right but right handed at home.

SmallDalek · 01/12/2018 19:39

Left hand here.

Liveinthepresent · 01/12/2018 19:41

Right hand here .
Think I am not a proper leftie as I also use cutlery and hold sports racquets etc right handed.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 01/12/2018 19:41

Probably 75% the time left hand.
