Question for left handed people

Do you hold mugs in your left hand?

I’m considering getting a mug for my friend and it’s designed for other people to read (‘Shh I’m reading’ type of message) but it won’t work so well for her if she holds it in her left hand.

I use whichever is more convenient at the time - at the moment my laptop is on the left of the coffee table so my wine is on the right and so I'm using my right hand. I tend to pick it up with my left hand and transfer it to my right.

JaiNotJay · 01/12/2018 21:28

I don't actually know, I've never stopped to think about how I hold a mug. I think I can hold it in either hand, but I'll need to pay attention next time I have a cuppa.

WereYouHareWhenIWasFox · 01/12/2018 21:30

I use my right hand for almost everything except writing. I am pretty ambidextrous though, I think most lefties are, because we do live in a right-handed world! 😂

Loyaultemelie · 01/12/2018 21:39

100% of the time mug is in my left hand although oddly I do hold my cutlery in the "correct" way

OrangeFluff · 01/12/2018 21:42

I will use my left hand instinctively unless I'm doing something else left handed, such as using my mouse at work, using my phone or writing. As others say, lefties tend to be quite ambidextrous anyway as we have to adapt so often.

NaiceShoes · 01/12/2018 21:45

Right hand for everything except writing bc the world is set up for right-handers.

NaiceShoes · 01/12/2018 21:47

Snap!

I’m left handed and I couldn’t give a stuff about mugs. Get her some wine.

loubeylou68smellsofreindeerpoo · 01/12/2018 21:54

I'm a leftie but generally use my right hand to hold a cup

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 01/12/2018 21:56

I always hold mugs or any drinks in my left hand

YetAnotherUser · 01/12/2018 22:01

I write with my left hand, anything that only requires gross motor skills I usually do with whichever hand is more comfortable/easier at the time.

Bippityboo2 · 01/12/2018 22:01

Yes, I hold mine in my left hand. It's only me that sees the messages on them!

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 01/12/2018 22:02

Left handed. I use cutlery conventionally but know I prefer mug in my left hand after getting pissed off recently with a travel mug that had to be held with a right hand.

Twotabbycats · 01/12/2018 22:05

Normally in my left hand, although 'my' seat at home is on the right hand side of the sofa, so if I'm sitting there I'd pick up a mug or glass from the side table with my right hand because it's nearer.

TigerDroveAgain · 01/12/2018 22:09

Always use my left hand for drinks but like others I use cutlery right handed. I can’t imagine drinking using my right hand

TooManyPaws · 01/12/2018 22:29

Left handed but do most things with my right. Someone at work commented about the mouse on the right side of the desk so I pointed out that it left my left hand free for writing and more space on the left side of the desk. Mugs are usually in my right hand, again to leave my left hand free.

BertandQueenieforever · 01/12/2018 22:37

I’m left handed and I use my left hand for picking up drinks. Never really bothered about which side a picture/motif is on a mug. It’s not something I can bring myself to stress about! If there were any knobbly or sticky out bits on it then that would be a pain I suppose, otherwise just buy it!

AnnaNimmity · 01/12/2018 22:41

yes - i'm very left handed though.

Cuddlykitten123 · 01/12/2018 22:46

If it's cute and she'll like it get It, she will make it work. Us lefties have to adapt to a lot more than you realise....so much stuff is right handed with you realising.

Giraffe31 · 01/12/2018 22:48

I use cutlery the same as right handed people but use my left to hold a mug

Daisymay2 · 01/12/2018 22:57

Left hand for drinking here. Cutlery is strange- knife and fork righted handed way- think that was peer pressure, but I can only use a spoon with my left hand , so spoon and fork left handed. Also kitchen knives left handed.
Trouble is you have to make so many adaptions in a right handed world you do all sorts of things in what feels the wrong way.

Ginkythefangedhellpigofdoom · 01/12/2018 22:58

I use cutlery right handed I think? Fork in my left hand knife in my right hand. Spoon is left hand. That's right handed isn't it?
Cutting veg or rolls or bread etc with a knife or spreading butter or jam etc is with my left hand.

Mugs I normally use my left hand and that's the most natural for me but I can use my right if I need to.

dishaiyer · 16/11/2022 20:04

Differs from person to person.
Mostly hold it with my left and sometimes with my right.
Btw i am left handed

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 16/11/2022 20:15

My ds says his left

juliadorking · 16/11/2022 22:00

This was 4 years ago.

I suspect the OP has purchased the mug by now!
