So I ordered a purse online from a well known brand.
I paid £12 so cheap and cheerful.
The parcel arrived today and it was well packaged in a nice box and wrapped etc.
I opened it and it was a different purse (loved it ) and I checked online and it is selling on the site for £100 Shock
Moral dilemma ...keep or return ?
Would you tell them ?

JacquesHammer · 21/11/2018 22:00

Why should you spend your time or effort informing them of their mistake

Because I value honesty very highly.

VeryClumsy · 21/11/2018 22:01

Its definitely ASOS, this has happened to me before too.

Keep it, it's not your error and nothing will happen. Enjoy the purse!

Nicknacky · 21/11/2018 22:01

thunder Sorry am I obligated to reveal my occupation? It doesn’t make me any more credible if I say I’m a lawyer/social worker/judge/cop/prison warden.

We are all words on a screen.

ThunderInMyHeart · 21/11/2018 22:02

Speaks volumes then

Nicknacky · 21/11/2018 22:05

Does it? You used your occupation as a lawyer to add credibility to your post and that didn’t work.

Lawyers cover a vast amount of law, as you know but are not specialists in all areas.

ThunderInMyHeart · 21/11/2018 22:07

Ok. Well, my work here is done.

PFB1 · 21/11/2018 22:07

The way I see it is we've probably all been shortchanged countless times without even realising it. When things like this happen, it makes it all balance out!

lookingatthings · 21/11/2018 22:13

I ordered some nappy wraps from a small company and got a different size and design than what I ordered. I let them know and they ended up sending me the product id ordered and told me to keep the ones sent in error. Win win. OP I'd just let them know you didn't receive the product you ordered and see what they say.

sollyfromsurrey · 21/11/2018 22:16

Keep it, return it, I don't really care but to all the people saying it isn't theft, actually, it is in the eyes of the law. If someone accidentally deposits a load of money in your bank account, you are not allowed to keep it. People have been to court and prosecuted over spending money that was not theirs that someone deposited into their account in error. It's theft.

Maiyakat · 21/11/2018 22:20

I once had 2 items delivered instead of one (fairly expensive electrical item, when 2 boxes arrived I just presumed it came in 2 boxes!) I emailed the company to tell them (no contact number), they arranged a time to collect it, never turned up, I emailed several more times, no response, so I gave it to my mum!

WhentheDealGoesDown · 21/11/2018 22:21

Another lawyer. they are out in force tonight

Nicknacky · 21/11/2018 22:21

solly That is a completely different situation.

HonestLawyer · 21/11/2018 22:21

They certainly have. I've seen it happen. Someone makes a mistake doing an online transfer and money goes to a total stranger. Said stranger sees nothing wrong with keeping it because it's not their mistake but they know it's not their money so keeping it is dishonest. Maybe people perceive a difference when it's a retailer as opposed to an error anyone could make.

HonestLawyer · 21/11/2018 22:23

Nicknack how so?

sophisticatedsarcasm · 21/11/2018 22:24

I had an order from a huge retailer a few months back, I’d ordered 2 things, one turned up and the other didn’t, I waited a few days and a parcel arrived I was thinking finally it’s arrived. Opened it, was someone else’s order in packaging with my name on, called them up they say they will resend the missing order and I have to send back the item to the address they emailed to me. They never emailed me, called them to tell them, they say they will email me again, never get the email of the address but they sent a £5 voucher online and they reordered my whole order so I got double of one of the items. I never told them, they’ve made the fuckup, technically you’ve paid for a bag if they haven’t sent the right one that’s on them,

Nicknacky · 21/11/2018 22:25

HonestLawyer You actually cant see the difference?

That’s really worrying.

Liskee · 21/11/2018 22:26

Tell them. Chances are they'll say keep it.

Bluntness100 · 21/11/2018 22:29

I had something similar, op, I ordered a mirror, cost about 50 quid. They sent me one very very similar but over twice rhe price, basically the higher end version.

I kept it without a second thought. And yup. If they had sent me one worth half the price, I'd have complained..

I'll get my coat 🤣

WhentheDealGoesDown · 21/11/2018 22:29

I hope none of these lawyers are real, I wouldn’t want them working for me

HonestLawyer · 21/11/2018 22:30

If it's so obvious Nicknack just tell me what it is. Taking advantage of someone else's error for your own gain... What is the difference?

yorkshirepud44 · 21/11/2018 22:36

My sister got sent 50 copies of fifa 18 for Xbox last year by amazon.
Yes she sent them back, but worried it would get someone sacked.

I had a random wrong sized bra in my M&S order last week. No label on, just hooked in. I charity shopped it.

MrDonut · 21/11/2018 22:42

Nicknacky, why do you think it isn't theft?

The OP plans to keep something that she hasn't paid for. You said that it's because the shop made an error and the OP didn't intend to steal the items, but loads of people have given you examples where someone has acquired something by mistake and kept it and it was considered theft, yet you dismiss all these examples as being different to this case.

I can't understand your reasoning on why you think this particular case wouldn't be considered theft.

Alwaysasparklymoment99 · 21/11/2018 22:44

Absolutely keep!!!

OrigamiZoo · 21/11/2018 22:48

Am I the only one WHO WANTS TO SEE A PICTURE OF THE PURSE? Grin

ps I would keep it
