just stretch the hose over your sodding car

I don't fill the car with fuel that often as it's mainly just used for around time.

Every time I go to the petrol station the access is blocked by people queuing for a pump on the "correct" side of their car.

If I can stretch the hose over my mum-bus people carrier, you can stretch it over your ford fiesta.

Petrol station etiquette should definitely be on the driving test.

Around town. Not around time.

People don't want to drip petrol on their paintwork.

loubluee · 16/11/2018 14:57

Agree with you!

IHaveBrilloHair · 16/11/2018 14:58

I'm not strong enough to do that, so I wait.

RosieStarr · 16/11/2018 14:58

What’s worse are people who stop right in the entrance so they can go to the first spot at ANY pump rather than just picking a lane and getting in it. Drives me mad when it’s already busy.

Givemeallyourcucumber · 16/11/2018 15:00

This drives me mad too! I don't understand why you wouldn't just use the pump which is free
i have been known to que jump and use the pump everyone is refusing to use and dramatically dance my way round my car and fill up my tank!

Andtheresaw · 16/11/2018 15:01

Not all pumps stretch that far: only the ones which are marked as such and swing over rather than stretch out. I live in a small town where one woman has managed to feck the springs and massively shorten the hose on all 4 pumps on our tiny petrol station by doing this. Now you have to park within 30cm of the pump or you can't get anything.
They worked out who was doing it but by then it was too late!

Caprisunorange · 16/11/2018 15:02

Not all of them stretch across

araiwa · 16/11/2018 15:03

Why would you complain about something advantageous to you?

PiperPublickOccurrences · 16/11/2018 15:03

I have a large, tall car. Renault Grand Scenic sized.

Never have any problems stretching hoses and have yet to come across one too short. (Assuming you are parked reasonably close to the pump).

Ffsnosexallowed · 16/11/2018 15:03

@upstartcrow how would that happen????

PiperPublickOccurrences · 16/11/2018 15:04

Why would you complain about something advantageous to you?

Because most of the time you can't even get in to the opposite sided pumps as people are queuing and blocking them.

Craziness.

CrookedMe · 16/11/2018 15:05

Why would petroleum drip onto your car??

Greatorb · 16/11/2018 15:05

Those hoses will scratch your car. You might not give a crap about your car but I do.

AnotherPidgey · 16/11/2018 15:07

I have very small hands which makes many petrol pumps awkward to squeeze and hold. It usually takes both hands and quite a lot of pressure to keep it depressed.

At many petrol stations, it's just too awkward to pull on the hose around to the wrong side of my medium sized car and to keep the handle squeezed and involves pulling with a lot of my (comparatively low) bodyweight against the hose.

I'm hardly queuing up on the busy side because it's my idea of a fun activity Hmm

PiperPublickOccurrences · 16/11/2018 15:07

The hoses are rubber.....

The trigger bit of the pump is metal but it's easy to keep it off the paintwork.

BunsOfAnarchy · 16/11/2018 15:08

Both times i attempted this i failed.

Too much of a wuss to try again!

cricketmum84 · 16/11/2018 15:09

I've tried to do this. Bloody thing wouldn't reach. I had to get back in my car and queue for the correct side like a numpty.

Never. Again.

BusterTheBulldog · 16/11/2018 15:10

Ugh, so with you op. I drive a variety of hire cars for work, and go all over the country and I have NEVER had one not stretch over. They ALL do. It drives me mad people blocking the forecourt to get the ‘right’ side.

BreconBeBuggered · 16/11/2018 15:10

I watched one the other day who refused to drive to the pump at the front when it became available, because the one at the back would be easier to drive alongside.
Baffling.

Nothisispatrick · 16/11/2018 15:11

I don’t want to look like a twat wrestling with the hose

Djnoun · 16/11/2018 15:12

I snapped my flap doing this, so I don't recommend it.

IHaveBrilloHair · 16/11/2018 15:16

Nothisispatrick, I did that badly enough when I'd parked a wee bit before the pump, instead of getting back in again and ing forward I styled it out, very badly, made myself look like an idiot and can never go back to that garage again.
Stretching the hose would not end well.Blush

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 16/11/2018 15:19

Totally agree @PiperPublickOccurrences it's really not that difficult to not drip petrol on your car/scratch it/pull the hose out enough

PiperPublickOccurrences · 16/11/2018 15:19

I snapped my flap doing this

Gosh, Djnoun, that sounds really painful. Grin
