Kievs and pasta?!?!?!?!

Ragevibration · 15/11/2018 18:10

DP was tasked with picking up an easy tea for tonight so we can have an early night after a busy couple of weeks.

AIBU to be aghast that he got chicken kievs (yum.) AND PASTA?!?!?!

They don't go together, right?

Kievs and chips, yes. Kievs and pasta, abomination.

Love them individually, but together seems so so wrong.

We have Kievs with new potatoes and green beans.

DonaldDucksTowel · 15/11/2018 19:00

We use pasta in a tomatoey sauce as an alternative ‘carb’ all the time
So yes kievs, pasta and some kind of veg is a bog standard meal round here
Bloody love kievs

AntiHop · 15/11/2018 19:05

Sounds tasty to me.

MERLYPUSSEDOFF · 15/11/2018 19:08

No.
You either have an oven dinner or a hob dinner IMHO. We had kievs tonight with tinned sweetcorn and oven chips. (bit of a beige dinner but it gets eaten)

bumblebee39 · 15/11/2018 19:09

Ooh sounds yum

But I love pasta love it

DonaldDucksTowel · 15/11/2018 19:09

But kievs, oven chips and tinned sweetcorn is a mix of oven and hob MERLYPUSSEDOFF Confused

ShovingLeopard · 15/11/2018 19:09

Tell that to the Italians. A breaded chicken escalope and spaghetti with tomato sauce is often gone found in the menu in Italian restaurants. And very tasty it is too.

MrsMoastyToasty · 15/11/2018 19:10

Kiev's and baked beans is a regular feature in our house.

DinoDave · 15/11/2018 19:39

My mum eats Chicken Kiev with rice. Says it's like garlic rice

It is! That’s a lovely combo too, beats pasta probably.

expatmigrant · 15/11/2018 19:49

Kiev's and pasta here too especially spaghetti with a bit butter, parmesan and black pepper. Yum Grin

Ragevibration · 15/11/2018 20:15

I think I've worked out the problem here...

I don't see pasta as an accompanying dish... pasta is it's own meal worthy of a side of say... garlic bread I love carbs

But apparently a popular choice on MN so I must BU!

I found some oven chips anyway so all's well that ends well Grin

I tried a Kiev for the first time last week and it’s was so gross. So yabu for the Kiev Grin
I think it would go with tomato pasta though?

AuntMarch · 15/11/2018 20:28

I ALMOST resorted to this tonight as so wanted Kiev but thought I had chips in, and didn't.

I ended up with tuna pasta. Couldn't bring myself to do it.

Now I think I should have tried it.

cujo · 15/11/2018 20:45

We have Kiev’s with rice too, a little extra butter at the end added to the tray to add to the garlicky yumminess on the rice.

Maryann1975 · 15/11/2018 20:53

I think Kiev and pasta is fine. If dh complained about it, I’d tell him to cook tomorrow. (Kiev easy bit of protein for dinner, pasta, probably the quickest carb to cook and healthier than chips).

I have been known to give the family left over roast meat, pasta, veg and its delicious, but dh didn’t really think so (although didn’t complain).

halfwitpicker · 15/11/2018 20:53

Say what?

DoAsYouWouldBeMumBy · 15/11/2018 20:59

That's a completely normal dinner in at least two European countries - and it would be a big hit in this house. (Well, mainly with DS - and we'd have salad on the side, hugely so in my case)

I don't get why Kievs plus potatoes isn't stodge, but Kievs plus pasta is stodge? The tomato sauce of the pasta works an absolute treat with the Kievs!

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 15/11/2018 21:09

I love pollo Milanese -breaded chicken- with pasta in garlicky butter. I also love schnitzel with noodles (basically pasta). YABVVU!!

Shalll · 15/11/2018 21:19

Yes that's it, pollo milanese! I knew there was a name for it.

Anyway kiev (or other forms of breaded chicken) with pasta is always a total winner here with the DC. DS will have some ketchup tomato sauce with his pasta but DD prefers to eat the pasta plain with some grated cheese. Served with cucumber and red pepper on the side.

Easily pleased they are!

IckleWicklePumperNickle · 15/11/2018 21:30

In my book anything goes with pasta. To the horror of my DH.

MyShinyWhiteTeeth · 15/11/2018 21:57

My ex started out as a terrible experimental chef and put together some appalling meals. Pasta and Kievs would have been mild compared to his concoctions.

He'd always blame the ingredients or the kitchen facilities. It takes years of sly demonstrations, watching cookery shows, cookery books as presents and praise to get a positive change.

Bicyclethief · 15/11/2018 22:17

Quartz2208 chicken parmigiana yuk, wth!

Bicyclethief · 15/11/2018 22:21

Dear God, Milanese should never be served with pasta!

Canshopwillshop · 15/11/2018 22:22

My DS’s favourite meal.

DorisDances · 15/11/2018 22:25

Always serve chicken Kiev with pasta and salad - yum
