I know this is petty in the grand scheme of things but still annoying! i use to buy my son supermarket shoes and they kept falling apart after a few months, my sister recommended some nike trainers which were apparently hard wearing ! they werent cheap but thought it would be worth it rather than to keep paying out. Well he has worn them since september and today i noticed a huge hole at the back on the inside! so nothing he could have done really. and all the plastic is spiking into the back of his foot! ( he was complaining of them hurting hence why i checked) hes only worn them since sept! aibu to expect expensive trainers to last abit longer than 2.5 months?! Now I have to buy yet another pair of shoes.

If they have worn out at the back where they too small?

Is he wearing them every day? Are they too small? How old is he?

Geox are pricey but if found they are very hard wearing

I'd go back to supermarket shoes.

No i dont think so as there is room in the front?? yes every school day and he is 6. my sister said they always lasted her boy the year.

Has he been professionally fitted? It sounds like they didn't fit properly and have worn through.

If so, you need to teach him to walk with the entire foot on ground and make sure he’s using the whole shoe.

Is it not normal to buy a new pair of shoes for your child every term anyway? :/ my son has new shoes either every term or sooner if they look particularly grubby. Supermarket shoes are only 10-20 pounds, which every 5 or 6 weeks is hardly unaffordable. I'd go back to the supermarket shoes, as trainers aren't any more hard-wearing I find.

Is he a scooter user? My son wears out the shoe he uses for his brake

really? new trainers every 5-6 weeks?? if thats normal then sounds like theyve lasted that time. I dont really have any friends with small children. thought trainers were meant to last ages.

What a shame, especially since you've spent so much. After 3 boys ( one also 6) I absolutely swear by buying hard wearing shoes for school. They're not cheap ( Startrite, Geox, Clarks, Ricosta) but they fit and last all year unless they have a huge growth spurt. It kills me shelling out £150 plus for all 3, but rather that than shelling out constantly when I've not planned for it. You can order a fitting gadget for about a fiver then use www.shoesforkids, a brilliant, family run uk company or amazon for good deals.

It’s possible, especially if they’re not professionally fitted. You need to try and see how he’s walking (don’t make it obvious, just do it subtly) to see if he’s shoving his foot all the way back.

thats what i thought wildbhoysmama that they were meant to last ages unless outgrown which im not sure is whats happened here. thanks for the recommendations will take a look!

I bought stupidly robust-looking Geox for £50 which nearly killed me, after Ds took the soles off a pair of cheap shoes in 6 weeks, but the woman in the shop said they should last a full school year if he doesn't outgrow them, so that seems worth it to me.

Speaking from personal experience - is he putting them on and taking them off properly? I tend to not undo my laces properly and sort of shove my foot in and then when taking them off I use my other foot to sort of stand on the sole and pull the other foot out. All of my trainers and up with a hole in the back where the lining has basically pulled away and it exposes the plastic.

So schools allow trainers now? My little boy has a pair of Clarks at the start of the school year and they generally last the whole year, expensive and not particularly cool but hes 5 so worth it.

I feel your pains. I used to get 5 weeks maximum out of trainers for mine, I felt sorry for then when I bought them.

It gets better as they get older. I just stick to Clarks now. I get a term out of them if not 2.

brummie DD is at a non-uniform school and wears trainers every day. 2 pairs on the go at anyone time, currently a Pediped pair and a Sketchers pair. Both holding up fine.

i just dont think they are too small, i checked them this morning again, i reckon it must be the way he is walking then or maybe the way he puts them on. the thing is they have 5 star reviews online 😩

Get him a shoehorn for putting them on in the morning and keep an eye on him when you get home to make sure he's getting them off properly.
