New police guidelines

Oldstyle · 13/11/2018 22:52

New police guidelines were posted today. They are intended to be inclusive. Specifically, that means that:
Male-bodied officers that ID as female with be able to search women (currently only women officers can search women).
Male-bodied people who ID as female (like Karen White) who commit crimes - including violent or sexually abusive crimes - will be recorded as female.
'Hate crime' will continue to include religion, race, gender, but will not include sex i.e. misogyny.
AIBU to be furious that women are being ignored in all this?

Fucking ridiculous

Do you have a link old

Otherwise ill stop being lazy and ill have a look tomorrow

BruegeITheElder · 13/11/2018 22:56

Do you think anyone is going to reply saying yes you are being unreasonable?

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 13/11/2018 22:57

Youd be surprised brue

coppercolouredtop · 13/11/2018 23:02

forces havent been given these.

we have no male bodied officers that id as female in my force that i know of. (good luck to those who do and are)

this is really a non issue practically in policing tbh. yes i get its guidlines but practically ???
wont happen.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 13/11/2018 23:04

Number 2 and 3 on the list are already happening

coppercolouredtop · 13/11/2018 23:04

i say this because we have not a single male bodied officer that id's as a female.
i cannot imagine many forces will have this issue. (do you?? reallllllly?)

coppercolouredtop · 13/11/2018 23:05

maybe you need to be in policing to appreciate how much of a non issue this is gonna be.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 13/11/2018 23:07

copper

Assume you are talking to the OP there Smile

Oldstyle · 13/11/2018 23:08

Bruegel I think they might - these are formal guidelines; whoever wrote them, agreed them and circulated them clearly thinks they are just fine. Would be genuinely interested if anyone came along to explain that thinking to me. Unlikely to change my mind but it might make me a bit less WTFish.

Copper this was back last year www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4533014/Scotland-Yard-officer-Britain-s-gender-fluid-cop.html

So presumably under the new guidelines sometimes they'll search women, sometimes men.

Do the guidelines address whether female police officers will have to search transwomen?

Oldstyle · 13/11/2018 23:10

Copper good to hear that in relation to the first issue - thanks for the insider info. But 2 & 3 are already happening - this appears to formalise the instructions and thus reinforce the problem.

hate crime....all forces arses twitch on this one.

but trust the cops on the front line on this one. seriously. a few high profile cases have caused the outcry which i totally get.

but this is not the norm. yes issue 2....but we record accurately. its documented that someone is born one gender and id's as another.

ill need to check the hate crime criteria for 3. but as a someone in the know its not presented as an issue practically as yet for me. had a few gender related jobs but none that would worry me.

coppercolouredtop · 13/11/2018 23:31

women search women and men search men.

thats the rule. i cant see what they ID as affecting that rule.

coppercolouredtop · 13/11/2018 23:33

oh.
and please dont use the daily mail as your point of reference eh?

coppercolouredtop · 13/11/2018 23:34

if necessary men can search women and women can search men. best practice doesnt mean its written in stone. the law kind of allows for whats necessary at the time.

TrashyTerf · 13/11/2018 23:37

@coppercolouredtop

Actually, the Daily Mail has recently become one of the best newspapers that reports on women's issues.

selfconfesseduggaddict · 13/11/2018 23:37

As much as they irritate me, I have a close friend who's a cop... I just don't think it's going to be an issue

Pervy old male cops - yeah I've heard a few stories. Trans cops... I've heard none. I think considering how much I have talked about self ID to my friend he would have mentioned if he knew lots of trans cops

selfconfesseduggaddict · 13/11/2018 23:44

To be clear it's the new guidelines that irritate me, not my friend

Lovingbenidorm · 13/11/2018 23:46

Head in my hands

coppercolouredtop · 13/11/2018 23:47

ok then trashy believe the mail. i shall bow out . except im a cop. and probably more in the know than the journalist. but ok!

JellySlice · 13/11/2018 23:50

Eventually there will, no doubt, be police officers who are trans.

Why will the transwoman's right to be validated by body-searching a woman trump the woman's right to be searched by a fellow female?

coppercolouredtop · 13/11/2018 23:52

i really doubt very much that tans PCs will be a thing imminently - just knowing he culture as it is now....its not gonna happen any time soon.

coppercolouredtop · 13/11/2018 23:55

as it is now - women search women and men search men. unless its imperative that a search is done there and then and then were all just cops who can search.

and i cant ever envisage a time that trans cops are a thing. truly its a very laddy culture as it is. i struggle as a woman. i cant see trans women or men wanting to actively put themselves in that position. i only know one gay police officer who is out.

AornisHades · 14/11/2018 00:00

There is a cop who switches between male and female.
