Democrats win the House, and he’s already fired Sessions: Trump thread 87

We start this new thread on a brighter note: the mid-terms were a win for the Democrats, securing the House of Representatives and further seats in the Senate. This means more scrutiny for POTUS and the GOP, and bargaining power.

He’s still a feckless, vain bully, oddly admired by some varieties of Christians - enjoy the cartoon by Mike Luckovich.

In the circumstances - all of them - I'd work on a holiday as well. 🙂

TheClaws · 13/11/2018 00:43

Unbelievable, I know, but apparently North Korea has been deceiving us. Satellite imagery has revealed up to 20 active missile launch bases scattered throughout the country, nuclear capable and ready for military action. This isn’t what POTUS envisioned when he allowed Kim Jong-Un to benefit from his summit with photo ops and suspension of military drills!

2019 US Senate now stands at:

47 Democrats (includes 2 independents that caucus w/Dems)
51 Repugnacans (not a typo😉)
2 Contested (Fla recount & Miss runoff election)

For reference, the current Senate is Dem 49/51.

AcrossthePond55 · 13/11/2018 02:42

Oops!
Dem 49, Repug 51.

This is why Scrotus & gang are fighting so hard over the contested seats. They want the higher number of seats to make it harder for the Dems to get anything through. With the Dems controlling the House, it might be easier to get some more moderate GOP Senators to jump the aisle on House passed legislation, especially on protecting the Mueller investigation and on healthcare.

Lweji · 13/11/2018 02:42

Have any of those GOP Senators not embraced Trump?
Could some use sense over lack of sensibility?

Too optimistic?

Lweji · 13/11/2018 02:47

But... Iran...

It looks like a job for Private Bonespurs and Major Rain.

He'll sort it out.

'The Justice Dept’s Office of Legal Counsel is expected to issue an opinion on Tuesday defending the legality of Trump appointing Matt Whitaker as acting attorney general; litigation is still expected over whether it was valid in the first place...and it’s only Monday.'

A reminder: Jerome Corsi (who works for Infowars) was the 3rd person present at the 2016 dinner when Roger Stone was introduced to Ted Malloch (a UK-based American academic w/ ties to Farage & Assange).

The FBI detained, searched, & subpoenaed Malloch at Logan Int. in March. 1/

omfg. Roger Stone pal Jerome Corsi, who just told
@NBCNews
that Mueller's team advised him he's about to be indicted for perjury, is currently livestreaming his thoughts about how he expects to be indicted.

Jerome Corsi, speaking of his talks with Mueller's team: "The entire negotiations...have just blown up. I fully anticipate that in the next few days I will be indicted for some form or other of giving false information."

Jerome Corsi: "To the best of my knowledge, I've never met Julian Assange."

... LOL

Jerome Corsi says the real crime he's being punished for is not perjury, but "supporting Donald Trump."

"Deep state criminals are running the Justice Department right now and if they're allowed to continue, we will not long have a constitutional republic left," Jerome Corsi says.

He adds: "Trump had to fight to get Kavanaugh on the SCOTUS and that might well be his salvation." 👀

And

Natasha Bertrand
@NatashaBertrand
Corsi says he was questioned extensively about a trip he took to Italy with his wife 2 years ago...he says it was for their anniversary.

Just for a timeline here...

Michael Cohen, who was in DC with lawyers today, traveled to Italy from July 9 to 17 in 2016.

This is a month after the Trump Tower meeting.

The Republican National Convention started July 18th.

July 22nd, the DNC emails were dropped by Wikileaks.

Eric Geller
@ericgeller
The Russian government recently responded to the DNC's hacking lawsuit, saying that even if it did hack the DNC, that was a military activity exempt from prosecution due to Moscow's sovereign immunity. (link: www.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.nysd.492363/gov.uscourts.nysd.492363.186.0.pdf )

Citing the U.S.'s own use of cyberattacks for political and military purposes, the Russian government argues that the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act must cover those activities.

Russia also says that the DNC hacking case involves a "fundamentally political and diplomatic issue" and that the courts should stay out of it.

Re: Whittaker

Renato Mariotti
@renato_mariotti
This is significant news. There are career staff who are experienced at determining whether a recusal is warranted, as they did for Sessions.

And

Joyce Alene
@JoyceWhiteVance
It seems likely something like this went on with Sessions. He might have initially resisted recusal, but after consulting with career ethics experts, realized it was the only ethical choice. Remains to be seen whether Whitaker cares about DOJ’s integrity & the rule of law.

Trump has cancelled visit to Arlington for veterans Day and us spending the day at the WH.

Is it possible that it's shit hitting fan time? Add with various media outlets going quiet on twitter and deleting stuff it feels like something is afoot.....

Roussette · 13/11/2018 07:12

There's a lot going on under the surface at the moment...

@MarkBardell1
Add the National Enquirer to Fox News, Drudge Report andWikilinks going silent, all during the same period. All publications strongly related to Trump.
So yeah, something is definitely up. To which the answer might be "Time".
----
Add into that Rupert Murdoch flying over for private meeting with McConnell...
And the FoxNews.com webpage has been scrubbed of pro-Trump propoganda. National Enquirer ditto.

Roussette · 13/11/2018 07:13

NorthWest Love this bit from that article...

'For decades the man has dreamed of reporters calling out “please, sir, what’s the latest on your personal feuds” or “sir, how did you achieve this amazing success?” while he delivers flirty winking answers. That this is not the way it goes now that he’s president clearly causes him great frustration. Watch these pissy helicopter-adjacent scrums and you may see a lumpy pink dope bellowing “we’re looking into that very strongly” in response to questions he transparently can’t answer and dispensing whatever thudding speculative idiocy he thinks will get him to the next question.'

7Days · 13/11/2018 07:38

Place mat king for what looks to be an interesting week

lionheart · 13/11/2018 07:49

From NorthWest's link:

'The culture has been inching further and further into Trump’s gilded funhouse for years now, and you surely do not need me to tell you that it fucking sucks in there. But we are, by now, all the way in. Trump is nearly as ubiquitous in the culture as he has always believed he should be; the one deeply held belief that has been evident throughout his whole faithless disgrace of a life is people should be talking about Donald Trump more, on television, and he has just about seen that part through. All Trump wants, all he has ever wanted, is to be able to keep doing and taking and saying whatever he wants whenever he wants. He ran for president for this reason and this reason only.'

lionheart · 13/11/2018 07:50

The silence-deletion thing is odd.

lionheart · 13/11/2018 07:54

Corsi is live-streaming (rambling on about) his own demise.
