Democrats win the House, and he’s already fired Sessions: Trump thread 87

We start this new thread on a brighter note: the mid-terms were a win for the Democrats, securing the House of Representatives and further seats in the Senate. This means more scrutiny for POTUS and the GOP, and bargaining power.

He’s still a feckless, vain bully, oddly admired by some varieties of Christians - enjoy the cartoon by Mike Luckovich.

The swamp monsters are certainly drawn by Trump.

'Grateful for a fair hearing from judge. Hard to protect my rights without being in contempt, which I don’t believe in. So will sit in the dark, but Republicans agree I’m free to talk when done and transcript released in 24 hours. This is the closest I can get to public testimony.'

'Republicans seeking office are all too willing to rail about the dangers of our $21 trillion national debt. However, this debt, coupled with unfunded liabilities — the difference between projected tax revenue and expected government spending — will be catastrophic. The vast majority of these unfunded liabilities are tied to Social Security, Medicare, and public pensions. Overall federal unfunded liabilities are over $115 trillion, which amount to $947,000 per taxpayer. State-level unfunded liabilities add trillions to the total, including $6 trillion in unfunded pensions alone.

According to 2018 figures released by the federal government, Social Security will hit insolvency by 2034. Medicare is in even worse shape, set to be insolvent by 2026. These two programs currently make up 40 percent of the federal budget, with automatic spending increased not part of Congress’ discretionary spending.'

Might I suggest that whoever takes on the next thread, takes two stabs at it and that we all ignore thread 88? 😃

PerkingFaintly · 02/12/2018 19:06

Mm, 8 is good luck in Chinese.

Are you thinking of a rather more Teutonic use of 88?

cozietoesie · 02/12/2018 19:12

I was, sadly.

Not sure if this has been linked but as we know tRump voted the US as the only country out of 20 not to engage in climate control, and...

The biggest scandal in US history is coming into focus. On Friday Rachel Maddow made it clear. Donald Trump conspired with the enemy. Quid: Deliver the Presidency & build Trump Tower Moscow. Quo: Lift Economic Sanctions. The fat lady is warming up her vocal chords.

At the same time candidate Trump publicly urged sanctions relief for Russia, he was privately putting together a business deal in Moscow that required lifting US sanctions. Then President Trump and his confederates misled the country about it, in a way that left him compromised.

Um what’s bad about 88?

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 02/12/2018 22:59

It has unfortunate...........associations, given who the threads are about.......

cozietoesie · 02/12/2018 23:01

Try Google............

TheClaws · 02/12/2018 23:30

Oh. I can’t believe I didn’t know that. What else have I been missing? Shock Yep. I’m sufficiently shocked to support going straight to 89.

Up to other folks re thread number.

I'd slightly prefer not to yield the ground to the sort of person who's taken that number as a symbol. It's a number, and it's mine to use without any permission from them.

But I'm rubbish at thread titles, and can't suggest a good one. I won't take umbrage either way.

AcrossthePond55 · 03/12/2018 00:09

I'm with Perking. It's only a number unless we want to give it 'power'.

As a wise old wizard once said: "Fear of a name increases fear of the thing itself”.

TheClaws · 03/12/2018 00:39

I somewhat agree. Up until this morning, for me, 88 was just a number. Why should it be anything more just because some group has claimed it? It’s a number, and I’ll use as such and as intended, without overtones of any kind.

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 03/12/2018 00:45

I tend to agree, actually. As long as you're all alert to any.......intrusions. 😀

cozietoesie · 03/12/2018 01:06

Maybe if we label it 86 (plus 2) or similar? 😀

TheClaws · 03/12/2018 01:57

That sounds like a good compromise Smile

OP posts:
AcrossthePond55 · 03/12/2018 02:37

How about we use LXXXVIII rather than 88 in the title? Grin

Genius, Across!
