Democrats win the House, and he’s already fired Sessions: Trump thread 87

We start this new thread on a brighter note: the mid-terms were a win for the Democrats, securing the House of Representatives and further seats in the Senate. This means more scrutiny for POTUS and the GOP, and bargaining power.

He’s still a feckless, vain bully, oddly admired by some varieties of Christians - enjoy the cartoon by Mike Luckovich.

Ah jeez, I thought I understand the Mueller investigation but listening to Maddow is like Shock.

First part of this video clip lays a lot, esp. the perils of Trump's written answers.

TheClaws · 30/11/2018 23:48

This is tantamount to ‘Individual 3’ defending ‘Individual 1’. It just makes it demonstrably worse - and dirtier. And to have it on a national broadcaster?

I found that tweet about “lightly” investigating the potential for a Trump Tower in Moscow hilarious. That’s not how things work in Russia, particularly Moscow. Think government handlers, knowing the right people, having established networks within the Kremlin - and payoffs.

I’m sometimes reluctant to post things like this as we never know what is actually happening in the background. However, this is too good to pass up.

Some hyperbole from Mollie Hemingway: comparing Trump critics to Stalin.

A quote: Hemingway cited former Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin who was responsible for the deaths of millions of his own people.

“But what was alleged was treasonous collusion and not just, ‘this guy is someone we don’t like so we’re going to punish him and anyone who worked with him,'” she said. “That’s a very Stalinist type approach to criminal justice. It’s not how we’re supposed to do things in this country.”

9/9 on the quiz, I've clearly learned a lot from these threads!
My question today for you learned women is: If Trump is impeached for corruption and removed from the Presidency, how can Pence, who is part of his team, be allowed to become President himself, since he has been backing this corrupt bastard all along? Shouldn't the GOP be renoved from all things Presidential, since they allowed this corruption to happen under their auspices?

PainInTheEar - funny how now we've had Junior and Trump, Bush Senior seems so much better that he did at the time.. I see the conspiracy theorists are out already, something about documents relating to JFK's assassination?

In sentencing submission out tonight, Cohen says he spoke to Trump lawyers when he crafted the lies to Congress about Moscow project. Cohen also says he debriefed Trump on call to Kremlin asking for help on Trump Tower Moscow.

This may implicate conspiracy to commit perjury before Congress and is in direct conflict with Trump's characterizon to Mueller (per Rudy) he wasn't actively involved after October 2015 letter of intent, ie evidence Trump may have perjured himself.

NEWS: In a late Friday filing, MIcHAEL COHEN claims he was in “close and regular contact” with Trump White House and legal team while crafting the false statement to Congress. Story coming...
COHEN’s lawyers also say he explicitly worked to cover up “extramarital affairs of a presidential candidate,” a reference to Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal.
The filing was part of Cohen’s call for a lenient sentence. His lawyers say he met seven times with MUELLER’s office and plans to continue cooperating.

I am violating the rule, not supposed to speak ill of the dead... GWB was considered too soft & gray, is why he lost the 2nd election. Very opposite of charismatic Bill Clinton. I'm not writing what Molly Ivins used to say about GWB.

Reagan was embroiled in the Iran Contra Affair & remains the most popular Pres in living memory. Grrrrrrrr The lauding at end of Presidents' lives is irrirating

MerdedeBrexit · 01/12/2018 08:19

I'm sorry if this has already been mentioned, but I missed it: Corsi will file criminal complaint against Mueller
What does it mean, is it a kind of blackmail, do you think?

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 01/12/2018 08:33

merde it’s very suspicious when a 94 year old man dies. I can completely see why there’d be conspiracy theories

I think Corsi is flailing wildly and this is probably for show than any serious attempt to intimidate mueller.

The founder of conservative watchdog groups Judicial Watch and Freedom Watch, Mr. Klayman said he intends to lodge a complaint with the Department of Justice accusing Mr. Mueller and his team of investigators of “asking Corsi to lie and commit other criminal violations like witness tampering,” The Hill reported Thursday evening.

I can’t possibly see how there is any more to this than whipping up outrage and anger in his supporters/drama llama-ing.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 01/12/2018 08:36

Renato Mariotti
@renato_mariotti
Corsi doesn’t have the power to file criminal charges against anyone, and nothing publicly alleged by Corsi amounts to prosecutorial misconduct.

merrymouse · 01/12/2018 08:38

I wonder who will attend GWB's funeral - Melania again?

MerdedeBrexit · 01/12/2018 08:52

Thanks for the explanation on Corsi, Pain About Bush Senior - I meant that there seem to be conspiracy theories about his association with JFK's assassination, not that Bush himself had been assassinated Grin Though to be honest, I haven't looked any further, it was a random comment I saw somewhere about the release of documents relating to JFK's assassination.

TheNorthWestPawsage · 01/12/2018 08:55

Gerald Ford was last presidential state funeral in 2006 I think.

Whether DT manages to be out of town or washing his hair...

From wiki:
Since state funerals in the United States are elaborate affairs which are in themselves rare occurrences, they are planned years in advance. Each president living, sitting or former, is generally expected to have funeral plans in place on becoming president. However, these details become more important after a president leaves office, and serves to reduce stress for the president's family in an era of worldwide media scrutiny.

The Military District of Washington (MDW) has primary responsibility in overseeing state funerals and in all cases, must strictly follow a 138-page planning document. Detailed funeral arrangements have emerged for two former presidents, Jimmy Carter and George H.W. Bush.

I got a shock thinking Dubbya had died!!!

Oops, sorry Lweji

GWB was president for the last two state funerals - Reagan and Ford - and gave eulogies.

Presumably Trump won't give a eulogy, but it will look odd if he doesn't even attend.

PerkingFaintly · 01/12/2018 09:46

I agree, ragged & Merde. It's all too easy to look back with rose-tinted glasses when a politician dies many years after their time in office
