We start this new thread on a brighter note: the mid-terms were a win for the Democrats, securing the House of Representatives and further seats in the Senate. This means more scrutiny for POTUS and the GOP, and bargaining power.

He’s still a feckless, vain bully, oddly admired by some varieties of Christians - enjoy the cartoon by Mike Luckovich.

Tuesday, even. I'd have missed even more had I tried to watch a DCMS committee on Monday. Thought I'd posted about it here, but clearly gave up trying to form coherent sentences yesterday.

Anyway, all the bits I managed to see where gripping.

I think the Facebook rep, Richard Allan, imagined he'd get away with a bit of handwavy bullshit when the Singaporean delegation opened with a prepared statement. A few minutes in, and they were skewering him.

The committee and guests really knew their stuff. I've been following this since last year: the UK members have gone from 0 to 60 on this in a very short time.

Nothing like a bit of witness tampering, or even obstruction, take your pick...

I'm in love with Virginia Heffernan, and I only know her voice from the Trumpcast podcast.

She was interviewing the anonymous host of the 'Mueller, She Wrote' podcast, and the level of detail in their speculations was astounding. It all sounded plausible to me.

However, it also made me think, this is what conspiracy theorists sound like.

It's difficult to know whether you're just in your own bubble, or whether something is real.

That's very true BelfastBloke and at the same time it's what enables them to get away with it. Sarah Kendzior foresaw Trump's victory and his kleptocracy before the 2016 election and, while it all seemed so plausible, it also sounded like the plot of a bad DVD.

It's the same with Facebook and Cambridge Analytica, with the Russian influence on Brexit etc, etc.

I remember the Epstein case at the time. It was the same thing - so shocking and all encompassing. So when the story just quickly disappeared, it didn't seem surprising. Most likely something else that had been over reported by a press looking for sensation.

The lie is that the deal was terminated in January 2016. Cohen apparently was still negotiating a potential Trump Tower Moscow deal as late as August 2017, according to CNN, citing documents being read aloud now in court.
