Democrats win the House, and he’s already fired Sessions: Trump thread 87

We start this new thread on a brighter note: the mid-terms were a win for the Democrats, securing the House of Representatives and further seats in the Senate. This means more scrutiny for POTUS and the GOP, and bargaining power.

He’s still a feckless, vain bully, oddly admired by some varieties of Christians - enjoy the cartoon by Mike Luckovich.

Concerning - but it hasn’t happened yet.

Russian tipped to take over Interpol in Kremlin victory. This is absolutely astonishing, but not without precedent. Nazi Germany took over Interpol in the 1930’s.

Oh GOD, Claws, you should hear the shit he's said as reported by our local paper! I couldn't even finish the article!

Apparently, they kept the public away from him (or vice versa) other than the mayor of Paradise. So no paper towel tossing at a shelter on this trip (idiot!). They also report that after an initial smile grimace and handshake Gov Brown and Gov-elect Newsom basically kept as far away from that absolute waste of space as they could without making it too obvious. At some point Scrotus gave Gov B a 'hail fellow well met' slap on the back and I guess if looks could have killed, Scrotus would have been reeling from the pain.

Yes, and Finland doesn't have the problem with fires that we do. Do you think he's ever thought to look at a globe and see how much further north Finland is? The difference in climate? No, me neither. But according to him, our problem is that we don't 'sweep the forests' like the Fins do. I'd like to sweep the forest with his fucking head on a broomstick!

And when asked about Climate Change, he came out with this gem; "I have a strong opinion. I want a great climate. I think we’re going to have that and I think we’re going to have forests that are really safe.”

Our thoughts are with you Claws and Across.

TheClaws · 18/11/2018 04:55

Where I live firefighters backburn before the beginning of the fire season. The coming one is expected to be a doozy as we’ve been in extended drought, leading to a build-up of fuel in the tinder-dry bush. That’s not something that can be raked. Nature will consume it somehow. (And thanks, Mini)

He apparently kept referring to the town as 'Pleasure' not Paradise!
The man is a fucking imbecile.

I've been prompted to read about Finnish fire management. This was quite interesting.

Thanks for that New Yorker link about Bannon, Cambridge Analytica and Brexit, lionheart.

More from the Guardian/Observer article it's based on:

Emails reveal Arron Banks’ links to Steve Bannon in quest for campaign cash
www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2018/nov/17/arron-banks-emails-steve-bannon-brexit-campaign-funds

[Damian Collins MP] said: “The emails suggest that the role of Bannon and Mercer is far deeper and more complex than we realised. There’s a big question about whether Mercer’s money was used in the Brexit campaign and it absolutely underscores why Britain needs a proper Mueller-style investigation.

“There are direct links between the political movements behind Brexit and Trump. We’ve got to recognise the bigger picture here. This is being co-ordinated across national borders by very wealthy people in a way we really haven’t seen before,” he added.
[...]
[Emma] Briant told the Observer: “This chain of emails brings all these different threads and people together … here it is revealed starkly in hard documentary evidence that foreign funders and transatlantic interests and Ukip and Bannon and data and money are all being discussed. And it’s really striking how their desire to influence politics and simultaneously make money completely overlap.”

PerkingFaintly · 18/11/2018 14:15

Bannon's not wrong when he rails against the dangers of a powerful global elite.

He just forgot to mention it's himself he's talking about...

TheNorthWestPawsage · 18/11/2018 20:33

It's just exhausting isn't it?

Finland’s president rakes memory for source of Trump remark

Finland’s president isn’t sure where U.S. President Donald Trump got the idea that raking is part of his country’s routine for managing its substantial forests.

Trump told reporters Saturday while visiting the ruins of the Northern California town where a fire killed at least 76 people that wildfires weren’t a problem in Finland because crews “spend a lot of time on raking and cleaning and doing things” to clear forest floors.

Finnish President Sauli Niinisto said in an interview published Sunday in the Ilta-Sanomat newspaper that he spoke briefly with Trump about forest management on Nov. 11, when they both were in Paris for Armistice Day events.

Niinisto said their conversation focused on the California wildfires and the surveillance system Finland uses to monitor forests for fires. He remembered telling Trump “We take care of our forests,” but couldn’t recall raking coming up.

The U.S. leader’s comment generated amusement on social media in Finland, which manages its vast forests with scientific seriousness.

Forests cover over 70 percent of Finland’s 338,000 square kilometers. The Nordic country with a population of 5.5 million is home to some of the world’s biggest paper and pulp companies.
