To believe that fireworks shouldn’t be available to the general public?

Fireworks at this time of night!!!

I’m partial to a sparkler don’t get me wrong, but I just don’t agree with fireworks being readily available for joe public. Particularly when people let them off after 11pm!

I’m not saying get rid of them all together but make it stricter so they’re only let off in safe environments by people who’ve had adequate training who then clean everything up and it’s all done and dusted before 11pm.

Am I getting old??

I wonder if those of you who have such great concern for the welfare of animals don't eat meat, or buy any animal products.

Ruffina · 04/11/2018 22:33

Oh no, don’t worry about the people rushed to hospital with burns or who are terrorised by fireworks through their letterbox. Let’s concentrate on the nervous Jack Russell and the anxious beagle.

FFS.

Iliveinazoo · 04/11/2018 22:37

Gingerlove do you call everyone who doesn't agree with you a sociopath?

You are way too invested in this thread.

Gingerlover2 · 04/11/2018 22:39

Ever get the feeling someone has too much time on their hands.

Please feel free to point out where I have complained about my selfish neighbours. Like your childish buddies, they don't read what anyone says in the desperation to get out what they want to say irrespective of whether anyone actually said it.

None of what I have been accused of even remotely comes close to what I originally said yet you've all just made up whatever you think has been said so that you can behave like assholes on the internet

You're not interested in anyone else's opinions but your own. You were given example after example last night yet chose to ignore the myriad of experiences, mocked those who were suffering and belittled others.

You do realise others can go back and see your revolting behaviour last night, or are you really that clueless?

Not sure why you're so vile but I guess I am lucky enough not to have to ever find out

DamsonGin · 04/11/2018 22:39

This evening...

To believe that fireworks shouldn’t be available to the general public?
Gingerlover2 · 04/11/2018 22:40

I call people who have zero empathy for anyone but themselves sociopaths. For those of us who know what it means , it's a fundamental trait.

Gingerlover2 · 04/11/2018 22:43

Maybe Ruffina can't read, or maybe she's just a pathological liar. Either way, I feel sorry for whoever has to deal with her on a daily basis.

I'd suggest she looks up strawman but I doubt she would grasp what it means

mydogisthebest · 04/11/2018 22:45

Iliveinazoo, not that it is any of your business but yes I am a vegetarian as is DH. Have been for over 30 years, don't buy anything leather either.

Ruffina, I am not just concerned about dogs. I am concerned about all animals that are terrified of fireworks including pets and wildlife. I am also concerned about babies, children, adults and the elderly being upset by fireworks.

The stories of fireworks being put through letterboxes, thrown at people - a fire crew had fireworks thrown at them while trying to put out a fire etc sicken and anger me. The answer is simple- stop selling fireworks to the public as too many of them have proven they cannot be trusted with them

Gingerlover2 · 04/11/2018 22:51

Mydogisthebest

She;s a lost cause, it''s all about her taking out her inner rage on those on this thread who love animals.

This has been explained to her over and over never mind the rest of the 450 comments saying the same.

But truth doesn't matter to assholes like Ruff, only how spiteful she can be to get a rise and attention that's so clearly lacking in her own life.

I am a bit concerned though as I DO have a Jack Russell, I wonder if she's one of those Mothers who spits chewing gum in to my garden Grin

Ruffina · 04/11/2018 22:52

Lovely people, dog lovers. Lovely.

As I made clear, I think fireworks shouldn’t generally be available to buy. But that’s because of the hazards to people. If animals are spared upset too, then great.

Perhaps then all dog owners could control their undisturbed pets properly, pick up after them and take their mess home. And stop suggesting that their pets are equivalent to people.

Iliveinazoo · 04/11/2018 22:52

Yes I get the feeling that you have way too much time on your hands.

Your armchair psychology is way off too.

However for the record.

I have never nor do I have any intention of setting off fireworks in my garden. I couldn't give two hoots if fireworks were no longer for sale, yet I've been called selfish and told to 'enjoy my fireworks' for pointing out that many people get enjoyment from them.

I have myself dealt with frightened pets and children. I don't expect everyone else to change their behaviour barring illegal or dangerous behaviour.

I pointed out that my child is petrified of dogs which makes it very difficult when out and about where dogs are off leads, I was called a dog hater. That doesn't make the thread about dogs, it's simply pointing out that something that lots of people enjoy frightens my child.

Gingerlover2 · 04/11/2018 22:54

So you came on the thread told all dog owners to Fuck off because they shit everywhere, went on another rant and now you're playing the victim? LOL, you're a hot mess aren't you.

Ruffina · 04/11/2018 22:55

Who’s that strange outburst to?

Iliveinazoo · 04/11/2018 22:57

I think you're confusing me with someone else. I haven't told anyone to fuck off nor have I once mentioned dogs shitting.

Please feel free to find the post where I said that.

mydogisthebest · 04/11/2018 22:58

Ruffina, of course pets are not equivalent to people, they are a hell of a lot nicer and better than a lot of people - you being one of them

Gingerlover2 · 04/11/2018 22:58

Iliveinazoo

You seem to forget how badly you behaved last night, not just my opinion but all the others on here sick of you derailing the what was a supportive thread to tell us all we are exaggerating, lying and making stuff up because YOU didn't hear any fireworks.

And you're back again for more attention tonight

So sorry if you don't like being called names, easy way to stop it, don't be a cunt.

Ruffina · 04/11/2018 23:03

Ruffina, of course pets are not equivalent to people, they are a hell of a lot nicer and better than a lot of people - you being one of them

Sigh.

Your dog is not ‘good’ or ‘bad’. It cannot hate you or love you. It cannot be better or worse than me. It isn’t capable of human emotion. It’s just a dog. It’s no more complex emotionally than a cat or a chicken.

juliecorrigan · 04/11/2018 23:03

I loved our bonfire night parties when I was a child, but now I realise how dangerous they can be. They should definitely only be used for proper dis plays. It's just common sense.

FatNoMorePat · 04/11/2018 23:07

@Ruffina darling this thread isnt about dogs, there have been several posts about other things that are affected by fireworks. Like elderly/vulnerable people, the environment and people who are injured by them. Please RTFT.

I’m not here to talk about dog shit Wink

Gingerlover2 · 04/11/2018 23:13

LMAO,

Ruffina HAS to be a troll, surely no one is THAT clueless

Or maybe I am giving her too much credit.

Ruffina · 04/11/2018 23:16

FatNoMorePat

IMDDRTFT, and loads of people said that pets’ anxiety was their concern.

So, reasonably, I said that I agree with a ban on firework sales but not for that reason, because pet owners - especially dog owners - cause a great deal of problems all the time, not just for a few days in November. Implicitly, therefore, they should put their own house in collective order before using their pets as a reason to restrict others’ freedoms.

HTH. Smile

OlennasWimple · 04/11/2018 23:17

I've lived in two countries where fireworks are limited sale only. But the ban also included those little sparklers for the top of birthday cakes, which seems OTT - and it's legal to own and carry a firearm Hmm

Iliveinazoo · 04/11/2018 23:18

Firstly, you can call me any names you wish if it makes you feel better. It doesn't concern me, and if it does I can easily switch you off.

Secondly I haven't derailed anything, people are free to carry on with any discussion they wish, I have expressed a different opinion and experience to some people on this thread. This is the aibu topic and I was initially ridiculed for saying that my ds was petrified of hand dryers and dogs pretty much any loud unexpected sound.

Yet I'm lacking in empathy, hmm.

I've dealt with frightened pets and children many a time and I'd have been more inclined to spend the evening comforting them than shouting obscenities at strangers on the Internet.

Witchend · 04/11/2018 23:22

Out of interest I've just been looking through the accident statistics from the Royal Society for the prevention of accidents.
In the year I was looking at there were around 100 accidents requiring medical treatment regarding fireworks.
There was around double that for using scissors. Over 2000 involving dogs.
Around 75 involving dolls or soft toys.
And just over 100 involving computers, though it doesn't say how many of those are the owner punching it when the WiFi's gone. Wink

Shitlandpony · 04/11/2018 23:29

Witchend I was saying a few pages back before the dog haters arrived to de rail the thread that I think a lot of incidents aren’t accurately recorded. Certainly the emotional damage to my daughter would not be recorded in any way.

There is a lot of ‘whataboutery’ designed to detract from the original point.
Lots of psychopaths or trolls have come out of the woodwork and seem to have been attracted to the thread which is a shame.

Fireworks are still going off here and have been since about 6pm, no doubt that will be dismissed as a lie too.

Sorry for the horses and dogs who lost their lives last night due to fireworks as well as the emotional upset caused to many people.
