‘I’d like my chicken rare, please’

AIBU that you don’t have ‘rare’ chicken?!

I cooked a chicken stroganoff for my mate earlier and as I went to brown off the thigh fillets my mate pipes up

‘can you leave mine rare please?’

I said ‘don’t worry I’m not going to overcook them!’

And age says ‘yeah but can you leave mine a bit pink?’

Confused I told her she could get ill and she says she always does chicken like that and never has! And it’s no different to having a rare steak Confused

Anyone else know anybody that has their food ‘weirdly’?

At uni my housemate used to love eating half defrosted bread.

That’s not weird, it’s dangerous.

Coldilox · 27/10/2018 21:45

Just the thought of “rare” chicken makes me feel sick

WhiteDust · 27/10/2018 21:46

She sounds a bit thick!

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 27/10/2018 21:46

Rare chicken?!🤢 I’m very surprised she hasn’t suffered the raging shites.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 27/10/2018 21:46

🤢🤮

Catspyjamazzzz · 27/10/2018 21:47

Your friend is an idiot. It’s not rare, it’s undercooked.

hollyhzd · 27/10/2018 21:47

No!

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 27/10/2018 21:47

Sid you leave it a bit pink for her then?!Shock

PrincessConsuelaBannanaHammock · 27/10/2018 21:47

Confused how can she even think it's the same as eating rare steak & how has she not been seriously not well!! The thought of that is disgusting, raw chicken makes me feel a bit sick

MrWolfknowsthetime · 27/10/2018 21:47

She's nuts!

Mishappening · 27/10/2018 21:49

Brain transplant required here. Please do not go to her house for a meal!

AGirlinLondon · 27/10/2018 21:49

Say hello to campylobacter - it can actually kill people.

www.food.gov.uk/safety-hygiene/campylobacter

MardyArabella · 27/10/2018 21:49

Chicken thighs should be a little pink actually. Obviously not raw though.

chipsandgin · 27/10/2018 21:50

Is she not terribly bright!?

“Consuming raw chicken can lead to illness from campylobacter, salmonella and E. coli. Symptoms include abdominal pain, diarrhoea, vomiting, and fever. In some cases, these bugs can lead to serious conditions.”

& think about that poor woman who died a few weeks ago on holiday just from eating undercooked chicken. I wouldn’t want to be the one responsible for that - it’s weird yes, but mainly stupid/dangerous!

IHaveBrilloHair · 27/10/2018 21:51

That's really odd.

HarrietKettleWasHere · 27/10/2018 21:51

No she definitely didn’t want them ‘chicken though colour’, she wanted them underdone! With the surface area cooked and still a bit raw inside.

BMW6 · 27/10/2018 21:51

Chicken should never ever be eaten if the flesh is still pink.

Surely she's confusing it with another meat, like lamb?

Tell her to google it if she doesn't believe you!

HarrietKettleWasHere · 27/10/2018 21:52

I saw an episode of Wife Swap in the USA though where the family ate everything, including chicken, raw...

BobbinThreadbare123 · 27/10/2018 21:52

Well there's a good Darwin award....

BMW6 · 27/10/2018 21:53

Oh and OP - I wouldn't ever eat any meat that she's cooked - or fish.

PennyMordauntsLadyBrain · 27/10/2018 21:53

I can be a bit laissez-faire in the kitchen, but even I am Envy (not envy) at the idea of undercooked chicken.

PennyMordauntsLadyBrain · 27/10/2018 21:54

@BMW6 or Pork! Or shellfish for that matter...

Really I wouldn’t eat anything she’d prepared if she was so clueless about such a big food hygiene no-no

Munchyseeds · 27/10/2018 21:55

I think she needs to educate herself!!
Don't let her cook chicken got you is all I can say

InsomniacAnonymous · 27/10/2018 21:55

I can only think she imagines she's being 'sophisticated' by saying this, when she's just ignorant. Rare chicken is not a thing, and as others have said is dangerous as well as being downright unpleasant.
She may have had overcooked chicken in the past, so found it dry and tough, but that doesn't mean she wants it rare, just not overcooked.

AlbusPercival · 27/10/2018 21:59

Ok so clearly rare chicken terrible idea.

But why is it different to rare steak?
