I figured it out when I was 8, peeped when I heard rustling in my room and saw my dad clumsily stuffing presents in my stocking (I think he’d had a few too many Xmas Eve sherry’s!) I half knew anyway but it was quite upsetting to have it confirmed.

PurpleDaisies · 20/10/2018 23:23

He was never real to me.

MerryInthechelseahotel · 20/10/2018 23:24

I can't remember ever believing. I loved Christmas though.

Excitedforxmas · 20/10/2018 23:24

Wait what ?!

TheMonkeyMummy · 20/10/2018 23:24

No one has ever told me. I'm 39.

My dad is one of Santa's best mates and he helps him out sometimes with visits to local primary schools. When I was 7, Santa asked my dad if I also wanted to help out, and so I was a fairy in the grotto.

It's our biggest family secret. Last year DD (8) was let in on it too.

No one in my family ever would dare say he doesn't exist. Ever.

Unicyclethief · 20/10/2018 23:25

My very own brain, I was always a curious child and a critical thinker!

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 20/10/2018 23:25

What Santa isn't real!!!!!
Now you tell me, at 42, you bitch Halloween AngryHaloween SadHalloween WinkHalloween Grin.

ileclerc · 20/10/2018 23:27

I don't really ever remember him being real, I was too critical as a child. I told my sister when she was 9 and I don't think she's forgiven me yet. I'm 40!

Budgieinaberet · 20/10/2018 23:27

I'm with Excited

WTF

He is not real.

I might have to report you for being 🎅 phobic

Birdsgottafly · 20/10/2018 23:31

It wasn't really a big thing where I grew up, probably because it was a very low-income area, in the 70's. That and it wasn't in my Dad's culture.

I can remember after starting school being puzzled by the idea of Father Christmas. The School didn't make a fuss about FC, it was more religious based. I went to Sunday School and Brownies.

Sitranced · 20/10/2018 23:32

No-one. I learn the lie before I knew of his non existence.

Sitranced · 20/10/2018 23:32

*didn't learn the lie

GoopWrithing · 20/10/2018 23:33

I don't remember a time when I thought Santa was real - so young enough to have forgotten that bit. It was always a show for the sake of my younger cousins, something kinda fun to play along with.

weltenbummler · 20/10/2018 23:36

My kids killed off the tooth fairy, Santa and the Easter bunny in one epic car journey from the back seat when my son was seven and my daughter was six.started with my son's searching question whether it was possibly me he had spotted placing the pound coin under his pillow the other night...I had always resolved I would go with the myths while they enjoyed them but would not lie to my kids when asked straightout. So I answered truthfully and one answer led to the next question ...

Notso · 20/10/2018 23:38

I saw the truth at 4. My parents still don't know though. My Mum thinks she gently hinted when I was about 9/10.

BabyNumberDeux · 20/10/2018 23:42

I was only 4 or 5 and my mum told me because I was scared of Santa! I just remember being happy when I found out.

Our kids are told Santa isn't real so they've never got to have that moment of finding out.

legofriendly · 20/10/2018 23:43

My older sister told me when I was about 5.

She knew immediately she had done something awful. What started off as badness ended with her in shock! Ironically it was the look of horror after she’d said it that made me realise it was probably true. If she’d just said it and walked off, I wouldn’t have believed her!

BabyNumberDeux · 20/10/2018 23:44

Oh and my mum also told me the tooth fairy wasn't real when I was about 6ish because she caught me trying to pull my teeth out to get money! 😂

FlurkenSchnit · 20/10/2018 23:51

We had a supply teacher in school when I was about 8 & she told the whole class Father Christmas wasn't real - cue lots of upset children & very angry parents!

Walkingdeadfangirl · 20/10/2018 23:53

I told DC when they were around 6 ish. Seems silly to keep deluding them. Wish I have never started the whole lie, it gets out of hand and end up hurting them.

redexpat · 20/10/2018 23:53

A girl on my table at school in y3. I was 7. I would have believed for longer quite happily.

Babybearsporij · 20/10/2018 23:54

I don't think anyone ever told me, nor did I see my parents putting stuff out. I don't even remember asking / having a discussion with my parents about it! I must have just quietly worked it out one day. I wasn't traumatised or upset about it either. Weird.

BigRoundPumpkin · 20/10/2018 23:54

Oh come on! We all know he's real Halloween Smile[santa]

SockQueen · 20/10/2018 23:55

I can't really remember. I think the rumours started at school in about year 3/4 but I don't think I had one single "lightbulb moment." I continued to pretend for my little sister and so I still got my stocking, and kept it that way - I still get a stocking if we're at my parents' house!

SockQueen · 20/10/2018 23:57

I should add - I realised earlier that the various shop/school fair Santas weren't thr real one, but it took longer to learn that there wasn't one at all.
