Public displays of affection

momologu3 · 18/10/2018 11:52

Dear Mumsnet,
I have to get something off my chest. I really, REALLY, despise public displays of affection (PDA). It's quite frankly disgusting seeing mainly teens but also others with their tongues down their throats right in the middle of my local village square! I want to take action but I am unsure if I am being unfair. What should I do?
Many thanks! X

Hate them but nothing you can do except look away

PhilODox · 18/10/2018 11:54

What should you do? Ignore them!
What do you want to do?

momologu3 · 18/10/2018 11:55

Preferably inform the authorities, it's terrible!

You do know that both your eyes and neck have a swivel function, right?

TheClaws · 18/10/2018 11:57

Action? Hmm What do you mean by that?

It’s fine not to like PDA, and choose not to partake in any yourself. But you aren’t going to stop others doing it anytime soon.

Rebecca36 · 18/10/2018 11:59

Holding hands in public, kissing briefly on meeting and saying goodnight are fine but any more than that in public should be discouraged. Parents need to bring their kids up not to indulge in PDA. That's my view. It's private.

However there's not much you can do about it.

Derekmorganwasinmybed · 18/10/2018 12:02

Which authorities are you expecting to do something about it

momologu3 · 18/10/2018 12:02

The council possibly? I'm not quite sure, I just deperately want it off the streets!

OP posts:
Derekmorganwasinmybed · 18/10/2018 12:07

Well you can’t stop people from kissing, know matter how much you don’t like it

CrispbuttyNo1 · 18/10/2018 12:08

😂

momologu3 · 18/10/2018 12:08

I know, but couldn't I approach them in public? Ask them to stop nicely?

OP posts:
Derekmorganwasinmybed · 18/10/2018 12:09

You could do but why should they stop

NorthEndGal · 18/10/2018 12:10

Just don't stare, you will be fine!
Honestly, it's not that big of a deal.

Dh and I hold hands, we give each other little kisses, butt smacks and squeezes, and once on a footbridge, he even pulled me into one of those deep , his-hand-on-her-cheek, kind of kisses!Shock

It's ok. We are consenting adults, and harming no one.

momologu3 · 18/10/2018 12:13

Ooo blimey! 😬

OP posts:
TheClaws · 18/10/2018 12:14

I’m not sure the authorities will do much, except laugh, unless you’re talking about sex in public places. That’s a whole other matter though.

momologu3 · 18/10/2018 12:16

Well I meant both really :/

Quipsandquotes · 18/10/2018 12:20

Worst of all is on public transport. I hate being stuck behind or beside a couple slobbering all over each complete with sound effects.

MaMaMaMySharona · 18/10/2018 12:22

I completely agree, I cannot stand PDA. I adore my DP and would do anything for him, but we don't even hold hands in public!

harriethoyle · 18/10/2018 12:24

HAHAHAHAHA!!

"Is that the Council? I want to report PUBLIC SNOGGERS!" clutches pearls

Idiotic. Back under your bridge.

LucyMorningStar · 18/10/2018 12:34

this can't be for real. nobody's THAT precious Confused

19lottie82 · 18/10/2018 12:35

Ak! We all did it as teenagers, didn’t we?! Let the young love flourish! Grin

EnormousDormouse · 18/10/2018 12:37

Move to the Middle East! None of that shit here in public.

ArcheryAnnie · 18/10/2018 12:38

A kiss or a hug or a handhold is fine.

Full-on snogging and groping and moaning and tongues is involving me, as an unwilling voyeur, in their sex life and is totally out of order. I'm not "offended", and I've seen it all before, but if I'm going to be involved in someone's sex life I'd like to be invited first, and have a chance to turn the invitation down.

(Anyway, I always think anyone doing the snog/grope in public are probably a bit desperate to display themselves as someone who can, after all, get a shag. It doesn't make them look like players, quite the opposite.)

spotsoddsocks · 18/10/2018 12:38

I don't like watching people snog in public either, but calling the authorities or the council!? 😂 You sound ridiculous, just look the other way.

TheMonkeyMummy · 18/10/2018 12:49

This has made me chuckle so much. Thanks OP!
