To want to get up at 5am

And get stuff done - just me on my own before anyone else is up. Thinking I might do the ironing in the conservatory watching the sunrise with some gentle radio and a nice cuppa...... am I being weird??

I do this, but I'm not mad enough to iron, I usually sit and watch a Netflix episode with a bar of chocolate Grin

ShatnersBassoon · 13/10/2018 22:24

YABU. Have a lie in or days are too long. The sun doesn't doesn't rise until after 7am anyway.

FinallyMrsE · 13/10/2018 22:25

I don't set an alarm but if I wake up early on my own I don't lay about in bed I get up and get stuff done in peace, it's my most productive time of day

doris9034 · 13/10/2018 22:25

I do love a lie in but then often feel guilty that I've wasted time ..... and then every one else is up too so have missed out on potential me time...

MrsStrowman · 13/10/2018 22:26

I've been waking up around that time (pregnancy bladder) it's still dark, stay in bed

averageisgood · 13/10/2018 22:26

I sometimes wake up at 5am, I usually get up, make a coffee and read emails etc.

shuthefrontdoor · 13/10/2018 22:27

I would love to do that only if I could sleep in the afternoon and catch up on missed sleep haha x

buckeejit · 13/10/2018 22:28

I'd love to do this but 6am -great feeling when you get stuff done before the day, esp if you delay a wash the night before, but I love bed in the mornings. I'm usually too distracted to go to sleep but might do a 9.30pm bedtime next week & just read.

AlexaShutUp · 13/10/2018 22:29

What time do you go to bed? If you can get up at 5am and still have a decent amount of sleep, I'd say go for it. If you would need to deprive yourself of sleep in order to do it, I wouldn't recommend it.

daphine2004 · 13/10/2018 22:30

I got woken up at 4.30am by our 3yo the other morning and couldn’t get back to sleep. So I decided to preen and when my partner woke up I was sat with a face mask on, legs a kimbo de-fuzzing and doing my toe nails. He was probably freaked out but I haven’t preened in 3years! I’m definitely going to start getting up at 5am during the week.

doris9034 · 13/10/2018 22:31

My OH is away so am in bed now .... normally he likes to stay up till 12 or 1 so its a rare opportunity for me!

Well done you 5 stars! 👍🏿

TheWickerWoman · 13/10/2018 22:32

Love the thought of this but it would be a completely different story dragging my backside out of bed at that time.

doris9034 · 13/10/2018 22:33

daphine hilarious!!!

That's the thing wicker - in my head it's a fab idea - when it actually gets to 5 in the morning will I think the same.......

tor8181 · 13/10/2018 22:35

not a chance with us my 8 y old doesnt even go to sleep till then or later every night

Bestseller · 13/10/2018 22:35

5am is a bit extreme but I love being first up by a good couple of hours at the weekends. I have teens so it's not hard!

I always get up the same time at weekends as during the week, if not it annoys me that I get up early for "them" but don't do it when the time's my own.

Fishcakey · 13/10/2018 22:36

I got up at five this morning and stuck the washing on then sat and drank coffee and caught up on Corrie. It was nice.

AcrossthePond55 · 13/10/2018 22:37

My DH is an early riser. Fine with me as long as he is quiet leaving the bedroom, shuts the door, and does whatever he wants quietly.

Why would you think it weird that you want peace and quiet to accomplish some tasks?

doris9034 · 13/10/2018 22:41

Ah fish you've reminded me - I would like to watch some of the classic Corrie!!

There’s a spoof Twitter thread called something like ManWhoHasItAll who posts tweets about getting up at 5.00am to do housework and extreme personal grooming, calling it me time. Lovey, doing the ironing isn’t me time.

PaintingOwls · 13/10/2018 22:44

No, I love being up early unless it's for work

PunkrockerGirl59 · 13/10/2018 22:44

Yanbu
I rarely sleep beyond 4.30/5.00am. Now I've accepted that's how it's going to be, I get up, have a lovely cup of tea and a snuggle with the cat. If it's a weekend I might do some ironing, if it's a work day I'll just chill. It's been a revelation - no more tossing and turning in bed fretting about not being able to sleep and having to get up early for work, no more worrying about disturbing dh.
I can honestly say it's actually my favourite time of day Smile

doris9034 · 13/10/2018 22:47

hedda I actually quite like ironing 😀
