To want to get up at 5am

And get stuff done - just me on my own before anyone else is up. Thinking I might do the ironing in the conservatory watching the sunrise with some gentle radio and a nice cuppa...... am I being weird??

I was never one for early mornings but for the past 6 months I have gotten up before 6, showered, driven to work, parked my car and attended a yoga class from 7-8 and am sitting at my desk at 8.10.

I get the kids uniforms, lunches and my work and yoga clothes ready the night before and dh gets them up and ready for the minder.

It means I miss all the rush hour traffic and for that one hour I am just there for me. The rest of the day is someone else's time whether that's work, dh or the kids and I feel that what I achieve in that hour is better than anything else I could be doing including sleep.

The only downside is that my body now wakes me up at that time, it's as bad as the cat meowing for food it's like my body meowing for stretches.

I don't iron generally so no way would I be getting up to do that.

I'm really trying to be better with time management. I'm always on time to places (usually) but I'm always rushing everywhere. And I always leave exactly the right amount of time to get places which means there's always the inevitable traffic etc...
I work early mornings and long days so I catch up on sleep at the weekend. But I've got to be somewhere at 12 today which means I'd normally lounge around until 10:30 then get up and rush (It's a 45 min drive) but after reading this I decided not to waste my morning in bed. I've got up at 8:30. Just having a cuppa and going to make some homemade soup and have a big tidy up then a shower and I'm actually going to leave the house with 15 minutes to spare so that I'm not worried about traffic. It means I feel less stressed too!

So while it's not 5am that I got up today, I've still made better use of the morning when I'd otherwise be in bed!

doris9034 · 14/10/2018 09:09

Well I didn't make the 5am ..... It's a very dark wet morning here so I just enjoyed having the bed to myself and doing random stuff on my phone ...... Ah well, best laid plans and all that!!

I don't know why anyone would think it wasn't ok? The only people I know irl who make a point of how early they get up have a wierd sense of superiority about it

DunesOfSand · 17/10/2018 11:14

I wouldn't set an alarm for that early, unless needed, but have no issues with getting up early if I wake naturally. My only "rule" is nothing that might wake the kids.

MammaCee25 · 17/10/2018 11:21

Hi honeys, ive been doing this for a few months now, ive noticed a fpdifference in myself asteem, weight and motivation, a good routine is key! Well done to you babe x

I wake up early every single day and I so wish I didn't. My brain just doesn't think I should sleep any later than 5am. Sometimes, it even makes me get up at 4am - i am DREADING the clocks going back at the end of the month!
However, the upside of that is that I do get a lot of stuff done early in the morning. The downside is that I am absolutely starving by 7am, I am constantly shattered by 2pm but I never seem to be in bed earlier than 10.30pm - it's a long day.
If I had a choice, and my body would let me, I'd sleep till 7am at least. Mind you, I do occasionally see some lovely sunrises, so it's not all bad!
Maybe, you should think about setting your alarm early on Mondays and Wednesdays or something...

pumpkinpie01 · 17/10/2018 11:34

I quite often think I will get up early and do housework or watch Corrie on catch up, but when it comes down to it I cant drag my lazy ass out of bed before the alarm, I think its time to stop thinking I might actually do it one day and just accept that I really wont.(But I would love to be able to !)

adaline · 17/10/2018 12:10

I have to get up early as I have a Beagle who needs feeding and walking as soon he gets up! It means on my days off I've done everything I need to do by 9am so I have the rest of the day to sit on the sofa and eat chocolate!

Foodielady · 17/10/2018 13:38

I live overseas and the DCs start school ar 7.30am so we leave the house at 7am. I get up just after 5am (but am often awake before the alarm). I have a coffee, prepare lunches and breakfasts and get everything sorted at a leisurely pace. Everyone else gets up an hour after me but I really enjoy the peace and quiet first thing.

RabbityMcRabbit · 18/10/2018 07:38

@Shockers no it will get lighter earlier and get dark earlier. I've checked it on my weather app
