To want to get up at 5am

doris9034 · 13/10/2018 22:21

And get stuff done - just me on my own before anyone else is up. Thinking I might do the ironing in the conservatory watching the sunrise with some gentle radio and a nice cuppa...... am I being weird??

If I'm not up by 5.30 my day goes wrong. Alarm goes off at 5.50 for work anyway so those 20 minutes are lovely. Can't say I do much housework though...

BestestBrownies · 13/10/2018 22:52

Hell would freeze over before I dragged my arse out of bed at 5.00am to do fucking housework whilst deluding myself it was 'me time'.

Bollocks to that

ButchyRestingFace · 13/10/2018 22:52

There’s a spoof Twitter thread called something like ManWhoHasItAll who posts tweets about getting up at 5.00am to do housework and extreme personal grooming, calling it me time.

It's not Marky Mark Mark Wahlberg is it? That ain't no spoof. Grin

WhatsGoingOnEh · 13/10/2018 22:53

I was up at 6am and on the bus by 7am Friday morning, and was struck by how great I felt. It was beautiful, the sun was streaked with red and orange. I felt as if I was in a secret gang with the other people who were up and out, and I gad the most productive day in years.

Apparently all entrepreneurs are up by 5am.

I've decided nothing meaningful happens after 9pm so you might as well go to bed.

I'd love to start getting up at 5am.

When the clocks go back next weekend, the mornings will be lighter, won't they?

Shockers · 13/10/2018 22:56

I’m always up by 5. I love that time in the morning before everyone else wakes up. I usually spend it making myself a lovely egg based breakfast, and lunches for DD and me.

Once the others are down and having their breakfasts, I go up and get ready for work.

This way I get left alone for the period in between waking and work. Wink

Shockers · 13/10/2018 22:59

When the clocks go back, the mornings will be darker; it will stay lighter longer in the afternoons.

tempester28 · 13/10/2018 23:03

The only problem is when the kids catch on and start getting up with you to play

wonderandwander · 13/10/2018 23:04

I do this
5.45
Coffee, unload dishwasher
Go for a run
More housework
Do kids breakfast
Shower etc

All before 8am. Love it

wonderandwander · 13/10/2018 23:06

It’s weird. It’s so focussed
Usually I am distracted by phone etc
But v early in the morning - I just crack on

neveradullmoment99 · 13/10/2018 23:09

I do this. I am an early riser. I love starting the day off with peace and quiet and feel cheated if anyone gets up. I sit just with a coffee in my sitting room loving the quiet. I don't do anything in particular. Eventually I go on my laptop to see whats happening in the world, browse, shop, read emails etc.

neveradullmoment99 · 13/10/2018 23:11

I don't do any housework. I just enjoy the quiet. I get up mostly just before 6am. I have an hour before the whole house awakes.

GinZing · 13/10/2018 23:13

Do you run in the dark Wonder?

Hana101 · 13/10/2018 23:13

YANBU as I love to do this, peace before everyone else gets up. Sometimes I too like to iron and sometimes just binge watch soaps which I have missed.. I’ve been like this since the age of 11 when my teenager brothers and sisters were in bed until 1pm I’d have been into town and back for lunch!

SirNilsOlav · 13/10/2018 23:16

I wake up that early sometimes, and once I'm awake that's it for me. Normally I just enjoy spending time on my phone "guilt free"!

I have frequently wished I could put a wash on but I'd wake everyone else (thin walls/ceilings and light sleepers) and they'd have me!

CoughLaughFart · 13/10/2018 23:22

I don’t know why you need to ask. If you want to do it, do it!

However, I must agree on the joy of classic Corrie. I’d forgotten how great Tina Fowler was - I love her.

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 13/10/2018 23:23

I wake very early. I manage to put the dishwasher on, I sometimes work, catch up on emails, MN etc. I find it hard to motivate myself to do housework properly though. Mainly it is because I like to lie on the sofa so don't have a large radius in which to do housework and also I resent doing housework while the rest of the family sleep on oblivious and it feels as if it reinforces the tidying fairy myth which is prevalent. To carve out some me time though I recommend it.

Lucisky · 13/10/2018 23:28

@Shockers no its the other way round. When the clocks go back it will get dark an hour earlier.

blibblibs · 13/10/2018 23:30

I get up at 5am everyday so try not to do it at the weekend!
I do prefer being up before anyone else so 7am at the weekend is a lovely long lie with a good hour or so of peace and quiet before anyone else is up. I don't ever iron at that time though Smile

7yo7yo · 13/10/2018 23:32

There’s a book called miracle morning by Hal elrod (I think) that is about getting up early but using the 5-6 as “mindfulness” time.
Apparently it’s used by many successful people. Maybe have a read op?

Disclaimer I am not the author and don’t know the author Grin

wonderandwander · 13/10/2018 23:33

@GinZing
Yes

wonderandwander · 13/10/2018 23:34

But it’s never she the duration of the run. Set out 6.30, so bit that long before starting to get light

BonnieF · 13/10/2018 23:36

You’re all either insomniacs or completely bonkers Grin.

5am isn’t morning. It’s not even close to being morning. It’s the middle of the night. The only time I’m ever up at that hour is if I haven’t gone to bed yet or if I have an early flight to catch. When I do have to get up at 5, I feel rough as hell for the next couple of days.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 13/10/2018 23:42

If I got up at 5am i woukd have to set the alarm and then have a nap at 9am. Doesn’t work for my body clock but I do know what you mean about enjoying that time of day when you’re the only one up. At least I do realise that in summer when it’s all fresh and sunny. I’m winter 5am is hell!

Shockers · 13/10/2018 23:43

Lucisky, of course!

MeganChips · 13/10/2018 23:45

I get up at 5am during the week and about 6:30 at the weekend. I love it, it’s my favourite time of the day.

At the weekend I sometimes get 4 or 5 hours alone before anyone else gets up and it’s bliss.

I haven’t always been like this though, it’s happened over the past couple of years. After initially being both confused and annoyed, I really like it now.
