For my DS 7, loves monopoly, uno and dobble. We also have mousetrap but the setup bit is too boring for him.
He enjoys connect 4 and battle ships.

Are there any new or classic games we're missing? TIA

Draughts

speakout · 13/10/2018 17:04

Cluedo? Our favourite family game.

It's not so competitive as some games and much quicker than Monopoly.

Redglitter · 13/10/2018 17:04

Frustration is the definite favourite in our family

Autumndayswhenthegrassisjewel · 13/10/2018 17:05

Hotel tycoon, monopoly deal, cluedo (ones we all enjoy). Game of life (long and boring but they love it), go for broke (not great for teaching financial sensibilities!)

QuarterMileAtATime · 13/10/2018 17:09

Latice? Rummikub?

ScribblyGum · 13/10/2018 17:10

Aged seven he will be able to play Forbidden Island when he is a fantastic cooperative game.

I’ve looked at our board games and Ticket to Ride is 8+ but I reckon a smart 7 year old would be able to get it. That’s lots of fun too (building train lines across Europe).

BehemothPullsThePeasantsPlough · 13/10/2018 17:11

Of the more modern games, I’d say that Ticket to Ride and
Fluxx (card game) are good for that age group.

BehemothPullsThePeasantsPlough · 13/10/2018 17:13

Lego Creationary is no longer made, but if you see a second hand copy then I’d definitely recommend that.

AuntBeastie · 13/10/2018 17:13

Ticket to Ride! So fun and different every time. And Settlers of Catan.

bionicnemonic · 13/10/2018 17:14

Labyrinth is a great game
The games produced by Think Fun tend to be good also

BikeRunSki · 13/10/2018 17:14

Labyrinth
Sorry

BikeRunSki · 13/10/2018 17:15

X post bionic.

Geistes Blitz is a really food fun game for all ages. You can get it on Amazon.

It is in a small box, has no board, just a pack of cards and a few wooden objects. You turn the card over and the first person to work out which is the correct object and grab it wins.

It sounds crap from my description - but it’s a really exciting fun for all the family game, and you can play a full game in 10-15 minutes.

Shoppingwithmother · 13/10/2018 17:16

Good fun, not food - god!

They are not food items, they are eg a ghost, an owl, a bat - good for hallowe’en too!

PumpkinPiloter · 13/10/2018 17:34

Carcasonne is great! I also second labarynth and settlers of catan.

Darkstar4855 · 13/10/2018 17:54

Labyrinth is great for kids - not too long/complicated.

Exploding Kittens and Bears Vs Babies are good humorous card games that are slightly more advanced but a seven year old might enjoy if he likes a bit more of a challenge.

We also like Rainbow Rave and Pass The Pigs as simple quick card games (like Dobble).

Darkstar4855 · 13/10/2018 17:55

Rainbow RAGE, sorry!

Thurlow · 13/10/2018 17:56

Definitely Carcassonne, a 6 year old can play that, very simple rules and it's got the kind of logic that means a child stands as good a chance of winning

MrsFoxPlus4 · 13/10/2018 17:56

Game of life!

Awrite · 13/10/2018 17:57

Sleeping Queens, Exploding Know and Carcassonne are all great.

Extra points to Sleeping Queens for being easy enough for my parents to want to play it with the kids.

ConciseandNice · 13/10/2018 17:57

Oh yes another vote for Labyrinth. We also love Cluedo of course. I’d also recommend getting some story cubes.

Sowhatifidosnore · 13/10/2018 18:03

Backgammon, chess, Sorry!, rumikub are our favs. Cluedo too

MrsStrowman · 13/10/2018 18:06

Find a local board games shop, they usually have very knowledgeable helpful staff, co-op games are fab for children and more interesting for you to play than monopoly! Little things like zombie dice are fun, ticket to ride Europe, forbidden desert, pandemic if he's bright and likes strategy, king of Tokyo and smash up might also appeal and escape the curse of the temple is a fast paced co-op dice rolling game with an Indiana Jones type feel and comes with a soundtrack which sets the length of the game.

Mummadeeze · 13/10/2018 18:07

Payday is really fun. I enjoy it as an adult and my 9 year old enjoys it too.

SmokeAndBone · 13/10/2018 18:08

Mexican Train Dominoes
Another vote for Ticket to Ride
