For my DS 7, loves monopoly, uno and dobble. We also have mousetrap but the setup bit is too boring for him.
He enjoys connect 4 and battle ships.

Are there any new or classic games we're missing? TIA

@MrsChollySawcutt it's ok for @FuckCancer to think IABU. I can take it!

Loving these suggestions. Adding loads to DS Amazon wish list. Will check out YouTube. Will Wheaton rings a bell. Who is he?

Wil Wheaton was a child actor, played Wesley Crusher in Star Trek Next Gen. Still an actor but best known as all round geek poster boy.

I’d also put in a recommendation for Exploding Kittens, and Carcassonne, and although I think Bears vs Babies is a bit too basic the children I know love it.

Recently bought Qwordie for my husband but my 2 children (5&8) love it. 8yr old can play on her own. They both also enjoy Scattergories but usually pair each one up with an adult for a team of two.

As PPs have said:

Splendour (I take this everywhere I go in a small tupperware box. Easy to learn, games normally quick, great for 2-5 people)

King of Tokyo

Munchkin (there's a Munchkin for every trope - superheroes, sci fi, fantasy, western, monsters etc)

Galaxy Truckers might be a bit complex for him right now, but should be fine from about age 9+

Bang!!

Skull

Marrakesh is fun as is Course Des Tortues. The first is a camels through the desert game where the desert changes quite often during the game. Tortues is a French tortoise game where they pile on each other and get moved along or back. You play blind and have to move others' tortoises. Both take less than 20 mins and are good fun.

My kids love Dig In. No set up time either.

The Forest Dragon - a simple card game actually designed by a 9-year old although the fact that his dad is a professional in the game industry probably helped.

www.theforestdragon.uk/

I have no connection beyond the fact that I went to school with the dad.

Starlight345 · 13/10/2018 22:39

I would also suggest labyrinth.

I started othello at 9.

Uno

Whosthebestbabainalltheworld · 13/10/2018 22:45

Not board games but Triominos (I’d say 6+) and Boggle (8+) are favourites, and both great for travelling

PoptartPoptart · 13/10/2018 22:47

I can’t believe no one had mentioned Scotland Yard yet.
It’s great fun, really strategic.

Hippee · 13/10/2018 22:54

Labyrinth and Yahtzee are favourites here. We also love this card game www.pagat.com/draw/golf.html

@Autumndayswhenthegrassisjewel
We played Hotel Tycoon lately and loved it. Where did you buy? It's coming up fairly steep when I Google.

To answer the OP, my 7 year old loves Carcassonne and That's Not My Fish.

SpacePenguin · 14/10/2018 00:37

That's My Fish even. Don't know why u added a 'not' !

Sethis · 14/10/2018 12:34

@PoptartPoptart

I grew up with Scotland Yard, agree that it's very good. Is it still in print??? We got our copy about 25 years ago!

PoptartPoptart · 14/10/2018 14:09

Sethis- yes it’s still in print! We bought ours about 2 years ago. It’s a firm favourite in our house.
