For nearly a year now I thought I had a regular squirrel in the garden, I’ve “saved” him from cats, left out bowls of nuts for him and even let him have crusts off of DDs toast.

His name is sooty becuse he’s got the cutest little black nose which I thought made him unique.

Only he doesn’t have a black nose, nor is he my regular squirrel. I’ve just sat and watched a “normal” squirrel dig around burying a nut only to sit up and have a BLACK NOSE. BLACK NOSE BECAUSE OF MUD.

Sooty is basically every sodding squirrel that’s come into the garden and had a dig about burying poxy nuts and getting a muddy nose.

Fuming.

I have literally laughed out loud on the train at this

I am now the 'nutter on the train' 😂

TeaForTiger · 11/10/2018 15:58

I wonder if you live near me OP. One of my neighbors keeps leaving monkey nuts out for the squirrels and I keep finding them in my garden/ on the drive.

Which isn't great when you have an allergic 3 year who's anaphylactic to peanuts and nuts.

TeaForTiger · 11/10/2018 16:00

Sorry, didn't mean to bring down the mood of the thread Blush

Lynne1Cat · 11/10/2018 16:02

TeaForTiger.... your 3 yr old eats stuff off the floor?

I've got squirrels and hedgehogs...and I bought a hedgehog house from Amazon...the little spiky sods won't even look at it

MrsA2015 · 11/10/2018 16:06

@teafortiger , Its usually the dredges of a mixed bag from Lidl’s or the manky pecans I get in the bag from Aldi’s. Save them up in the bowl to put outside.

Good point though and I’ll keep that in mind just incase! I know a few of the other gardens put nuts out because I keep finding the husks in my garden.

And no worries! I’ve got a 3 yr old who picks up stuff all the time. Mainly snails Envy

So your affection for him was based on superficial beauty? If he got fat on all your bounty would you then reject him?

Shallow!

OliviaStabler · 11/10/2018 16:10

Sorry but LOL 😂

Nature is so disappointing.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 11/10/2018 16:12

Sounds like you've been gas lighted there, OP.... Grin

MrsA2015 · 11/10/2018 16:15

Just can’t believe it, felt so dim. I’ve been worried about the winter too and “not minding” the rattling in the roof we can hear, telling DH at least the squirrel will be warm. Ffs.

I believe you’ve been catfished by a group of squirrels. Log it with 101.

TeaForTiger.... your 3 yr old eats stuff off the floor?
He doesn't eat things off the floor no, but picks things up because he's a curious 3yo and had never seen a monkey nut before. Luckily his older sister was with him.

He wouldn't have to eat it to have a reaction, just pick it up and touch his face/eyes.

When you have an allergic child, peanuts are the last thing you want to find in your garden! They are deadly to my son.

But I understand it's not something you would ever think about if you don't live with allergies.

If somebody shows you who they are believe them OP.........

BitOutOfPractice · 11/10/2018 16:19

You got yourself in too quickly and now he's shown you who he really is. I hope you haven't shown the children him Sad

Try OLD

Annajohnsdottir · 11/10/2018 16:21

I love your dedication to keeping 'Sooty' alive and well. You are clearly lovely!

On a side note, did you never notice Sooty change size or shape? I assume squirrels come in different sizes where you live? Haha Grin

yeah man.

Solid constitution.

YearOfYouRemember · 11/10/2018 16:22

Oh MrsA. I'm so sorry for you. Do you need anything ? Sad.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 11/10/2018 16:23

I can't believe you introduced him to your DD ('s toast) so early. Maybe spend some time just with yourself OP and really build your self-esteem back up.

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 11/10/2018 16:26

Oh, dear, OP. That is a disappointment. He led you down the garden path only for you to find out his true nature.
