For nearly a year now I thought I had a regular squirrel in the garden, I’ve “saved” him from cats, left out bowls of nuts for him and even let him have crusts off of DDs toast.

His name is sooty becuse he’s got the cutest little black nose which I thought made him unique.

Only he doesn’t have a black nose, nor is he my regular squirrel. I’ve just sat and watched a “normal” squirrel dig around burying a nut only to sit up and have a BLACK NOSE. BLACK NOSE BECAUSE OF MUD.

Sooty is basically every sodding squirrel that’s come into the garden and had a dig about burying poxy nuts and getting a muddy nose.

Fuming.

He was clearly only concerned about getting his nuts off OP. You don’t know where else he’s been either!!!

ilovegin112 · 13/10/2018 18:33

My daughter when he was about 6 came home from an afternoon at the beach(with grandpa) left his coat in the kitchen thought nothing of it came down in the morning and there was about 20 snails that were climbing my kitchen wallsConfused yes said grandpa he was putting them in his pocket

Get the squirrel out of the roof pronto and block up the hole where it’s getting in - my neighbour had one which chewed through the wiring to the shower. There was a nest up there too with baby squirrels in it, only discovered after the hole was blocked up and the mother couldn’t get to them. She ran up and down the rendering on the house screaming - I’ve never heard anything like it.

I thought you were going to say what happened to my mom and dad. They had a special squirrel. Fed it nuts. Watched it go on the bird table etc. Except after a few weeks they went out and realised they had been feeding RATGrin

frankie001 · 13/10/2018 19:18

#budgie# she was played by squirrels! I have compassion for op but not them!

Budgieinaberet · 13/10/2018 19:29

Ha ha. You are right Frankie she certainly was played Grin

puzzledlady · 13/10/2018 19:36

A squirrel jumped up my leg today in the farm - I almost fucking had a heart attack. 😂

Windgate · 13/10/2018 20:04

I make cake for our squirrels. They have their own dedicated feeder opposite end of the garden from the bird feeders.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 13/10/2018 20:11

Um, MrsA squirrels are pretty territorial, if it wasn’t a mated pair it probably was just the one squirrel. You might have got that wrong. Grin

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 13/10/2018 20:15

We have one that runs across the garden , up the fence then along.
Taunts our guinea-pigs .

"Look at meeee , I can climb up the fence and scuttle along it. See how I hold this monkey nut in my cute little paws and nibble at it. Can you climb? No. Can you hold? No. Are you tail-ey? No . Just fat tail-less huge arsed guinea-pigs"

The guinea-pigs are well judgey.
Squirrel is like THAT child at school Shock

Wauden · 13/10/2018 23:08

LTB.

FermatsTheorem · 13/10/2018 23:13

Damn, Wauden just beat me to it.

Cellardoor23 · 13/10/2018 23:20

😂 This is probably something I would do. On another note, we have bats in our back garden. Never been an issue, until I opened the window and one almost came in!

If anyone has seen the video of the people trying to get a bat out of their kitchen..I would have more than likely acted the same.

I'll see if I can find it.

CinnaMessala · 13/10/2018 23:27

They do fatten up (literally) for the winter, you know. So fat squirrel in fall is the same skinny squirrel by spring.

Maisymoo22 · 14/10/2018 00:28

So Sooty has basically turned out to be... Sammy, Suzy, Steve, Stewart, Stan, Sophie, Stella, Stephanie, Spike, Shaun.........

HaroldsSocalledBluetits · 14/10/2018 00:39

Just thank your lucky stars you didn't have children with him, OP. Let this be a lesson to you - when a squirrel shows you who he is, he's more than one squirrel.

TheLittleDogLaughed · 14/10/2018 03:53

When I was a little girl, I made friends with a fly called Andy. For one blissful summer Andy would come and sit on my legs and share my food every day.

Now I’m wondering, after all these years, if there was actually more than one Andy ...

Sb74 · 14/10/2018 16:34

We used to like squirrels until one moved in to our loft and inside our ceilings and walls from three months. Now we don’t like them that much.

Sb74 · 14/10/2018 16:34

...For three months.

MrsA2015 · 14/10/2018 21:52

Forgot to update! Your replies are brilliant Grin I sat and had a good watch and there’s almost like a conveyor belt of squirrels going into each garden so there’s only one at a time! So yes I’ve had every tom dick and sooty burying their nuts in my garden!

OP posts:
Redshoeblueshoe · 14/10/2018 21:59

So what's Harry doing with his nuts ?

Maelstrop · 14/10/2018 22:06

There’s a random fruit tree outside our drive, the local squirrel/squirrels are feasting on it! There’s one with a stripy tail, hopefully it’s stripy and not rolled in something uniformly coloured. Very odd, I’ve never seen stripy tails, proper rings like a raccoon.

MrsA2015 · 14/10/2018 22:33

Absolutely no pun intended in that last post ! @maelstrop you’ll have to name him something ! (All squirrel are male to me...)

OP posts:
Maelstrop · 14/10/2018 23:35

He's very cute but I don't want to encourage him, the dogs are very keen to 'make friends' Shock

Mymomsbetterthanyomom · 15/10/2018 01:18

He's going to want to move in next!!
Be strong!!
He's only using you😂
