Strictly affair - should they be forced to leave?

I know there’s a thread about Rebecca Humphries’ statement but I’ve been pondering another question. Should Seann and Katya be forced to leave the show?

I’ll be honest I don’t know my own mind on this one. Part of me feels the unprofessionalism could be grounds for the pair to be axed but the other side of me feels it’s none of our business and not to judge. What do you think?!

Personally, I don't think so. Shit happens. People being unfaithful, while the end of the line perhaps for one of the couples involved, impacts not on me at all. I just don't care. Fidelity is a private matter.

I think people get far too invested in the private lives of others and I don't think it's a good thing. Sure, where there is criminality then by all means suspend people from shows but being unfaithful is not a crime.

EleanorLavish · 09/10/2018 10:09

What?!
It's a dance competition. Light, Sat night tv froth.
They are all probably shagging each other off camera.
They are grown ups.
They snogged. He is a dick. She probably has done it before.
The girlfriend has rocked it.
You need to get a grip. Why would I want him off the show? It's getting a bit out of hand. I hate all the policing of peoples morals etc. The next thing will be the 'poppy police' if someone doesn't wear one.
Confused
If there was assault/violence etc yes, of course, but you want him booted off a dance show because he snogged his partner??

Coldilox · 09/10/2018 10:10

I suspect they'll be leaving this week anyway. Who will vote for them?

JacquesHammer · 09/10/2018 10:12

No they shouldn't at the moment.

Not that I am downplaying what happened, but the infidelity - albeit played out in the public sphere - is between them and their partners.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 09/10/2018 10:12

I thought it was just a drunken snog?

Samcro · 09/10/2018 10:13

why wouldn't people vote for them? if they dance really well? surely its a dance competition.

TwistedStitch · 09/10/2018 10:14

No they shouldn't be forced to leave when there have been loads of affairs over the years. I guess the only difference here is that it has come out during the show and not afterwards.

I'll be surprised if he doesn't withdraw though, it will be awkward as hell. But great for viewing figures!

ShalomJackie · 09/10/2018 10:14

Yes it was just a kiss, for which they have apologiaed, for which his gf has dumped him. In the past there were actual affairs but not this outrage - why now?

PristineCondition · 09/10/2018 10:14

No.
Their private lives are not being judged it’s their 💃

Redglitter · 09/10/2018 10:15

No why should they they're not the first couple to have got involved on the show & probably won't be the last.

Bluntness100 · 09/10/2018 10:16

Unless there is some form of morality clause or non fraternisation clause in their contracts, then no, you can't fire people because they snog someone who isn't their partner in their private time.

And I don't think you should call it an affair either.

MidnightAura · 09/10/2018 10:17

While I don’t like him, I don’t see why he should be booted off the show.

I mean if they all worked in an office, they wouldn’t get sacked for a kiss.

This won’t help his popularity so he probably will go tho weekend anyhow.

Asterado · 09/10/2018 10:19

In answer to your initial question; no, they shouldn’t be forced to leave over an affair.

HOWEVER,

If you delve into it further, it has become clear through a statement issued by one of the betrayed parties, that there is a lot more to it, including what was described as emotional abuse from one of the guilty parties. So I think really the question you should be asking is; should someone that has been accused of emotionally abusing their partner in order to facilitate an affair, be forced to leave the show?

It is pretty appalling.

Pebblespony · 09/10/2018 10:20

People are getting over involved in this. Loads of tabloid type moralizing and devouring every sordid detail. It's a non issue on a light entertainment programme.

TeddybearBaby · 09/10/2018 10:20

On Lorraine she said it was 50/50 on opinions but then said actually more like 60/40 but didn’t say which way.

I’m not sure why this has been bigger than previous affairs. Maybe because it’s happened during the show and her husband is on it too. Not sure!

AuntBeastie · 09/10/2018 10:21

I think so. It’s unprofessional and makes the show look sleazy. It’s going to be weird and awkward them continuing.

I think they will be voted off next week anyway though.

JacquesHammer · 09/10/2018 10:22

Anyone who thinks the public vote is ever just based on their dancing ability rather than their likeability is naive Grin

Padparadscha · 09/10/2018 10:24

I thought it was just a drunken snog?

In her statement, his ex-girlfriend stated that she’d had her suspicions for a couple of weeks but he called her ‘mental’ for raising them. It seems a possibility that being caught kissing was just the tip of the iceberg , but I doubt either she or anyone else will ever know the truth of it.

However, no they shouldn’t have to leave the show. I mean, he’s got some balls to go back knowing most people watching him thinks he’s a massive dickhead, but that’s his prerogative. His career is probably down the pan for the moment regardless, so might as well keep his face about.

The strictly products will be desperate for him not to quit, everyone will be watching the scarlet couple this week. I’d even bet the judges have been told to keep them in at all cost, at least until it dies down. Good telly, innit.

BrownPaperTeddy · 09/10/2018 10:25

I don't think they should be fired despite thinking what they've done is despicable.

However. How on earth can they carry on? It's all quite light hearted, the chats on the show, interviews on it takes 2 etc and this will just be the elephant in the room.

I also can't see them being voted through. It will all just be very awkward.

TruelyTruelyScrumptious · 09/10/2018 10:25

How can it be unprofessional?

He is a comedian- not a profession and if it were then I would imagine that sex and alcohol were top of the requirement to join the regulatory body.

She is a dancer, again not a profession.

ShadyLady53 · 09/10/2018 10:27

I don’t think they should be forced to leave.

I think if he really cared about his girlfriend he would have quit of his own volition rather than continue to make a spectacle of all 3 of them and dance with a woman 50 hours a week that he’s been photographed cheating with.

In an ideal world, Katya’s contract wouldn’t be renewed after this season. However, I expect the BBC are secretly quite chuffed. It’s made the headlines. More people will tune in. No such thing as bad publicity Hmm.

SaucyJack · 09/10/2018 10:28

No, I can’t think of a circumstance where it would ever be necessary for someone to get the sack for infidelity in their private life.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 09/10/2018 10:31

No

I think the way he has treated his ex girlfriend is awful but these things happen all the time when you put people together

I doubt he will get much further in the competition

PrincessScarlett · 09/10/2018 10:33

So ridiculous that the news channels are giving this any air time. This goes on every year on strictly. Why is it even an issue? The only reason I can think for making such a fuss is that it will do wonders for the viewing ratings.

And they won't leave this week, the voting public will keep them in to watch the "chemistry" between them because at the end of the day its entertainment.

RangeRider · 09/10/2018 10:34

I thought it was just a drunken snog?
It's still being unfaithful whether you snog them while drunk or shag them sober. If you're in a relationship then you don't do this, and if you're likely to do it while drunk then don't put yourself in a position where it could happen.
That said, they shouldn't be forced to leave. The public will get rid of them.
