Strictly affair - should they be forced to leave?

I know there’s a thread about Rebecca Humphries’ statement but I’ve been pondering another question. Should Seann and Katya be forced to leave the show?

I’ll be honest I don’t know my own mind on this one. Part of me feels the unprofessionalism could be grounds for the pair to be axed but the other side of me feels it’s none of our business and not to judge. What do you think?!

What's it to do with anybody else? I'm astounded that people get so invested in other people's lives when they have no investment in them. It's for the people involved to resolve, not you or anybody else.

I think the question has to be why do so many women really LOVE to read about this vacuous stuff and make judgements that are not their business to make? Baffling. Attention-seeking also, it should be on the TV board, shouldn't it?

"It's not just the cheating it's the abusive behaviour."

This!

The80sweregreat · 09/10/2018 13:14

Who knows what goes on behind closed doors? the girlfriend is getting a lot of support but who knows if the partnership was already on the rocks before this? Havent we all done things we regret in life, but not in the glare of the media ( thank god!) They wont be the first or last to behave like this.
its all just to fill column inches and usually it does all come out after the show has finished as well.
I would 'retire' from the show if i were him though - its all a waste of time and effort now as he must know he will be for the chop this week anyway and it all must be very embarrassing for all involved.

Mushroomsarehorrible · 09/10/2018 13:21

AuntBeastie

It’s unprofessional and makes the show look sleazy

I think that ship sailed long ago Grin

Bugjune · 09/10/2018 13:26

Such a shame the these dancers (male and female, before anyone starts) can't have a modicum of professionalism and keep their impulses in check. They're used to being physically close to people, their novice partners are not so ultimately it should be up to them to keep things above board.

Saying that though, he sounds like an absolute prick of the highest order, the now ex girlfriend really is the winner in this mess.

DarkDarkNight · 09/10/2018 13:29

No it’s a private matter. People have affairs, I wouldn’t expect someone I work with to lose their job because they had an affair. The tabloids are whipping up a frenzy to sell papers with no regards for the individuals.

ilovesooty · 09/10/2018 13:30

No. I couldn't care less about their sexual activities and they've probably done no more than previous contestants in the days when social media was less established.

We only have his girlfriend's social media statement to go on in terms of the emotional abuse and that to me doesn't constitute proof. Not a bad way of enhancing her profile of course.

Blessthekids · 09/10/2018 13:34

I agree with 80s. We do not know the real facts. Yes they got drunk and kissed and acted like twats but this does not mean they are having an affair, the Jones' have a fake marriage, Seaan is a gaslighter, Neil is gay or Rebecca was a perfect girlfriend? They may all be true, lies or a mixture but honestly who cares. The world and society has far bigger problems.

Let them continue. And whatever happens next is up to them. I really like Katya and hope this doesn't break her and yes I do have sympathy for Neil and Rebecca. We are all too quick to judge and condemn. Do we really want to publicly destroy two people for this mistake? I don't.

catpooproblems · 09/10/2018 13:36

No I don’t think they should be forced to leave. Having an affair, kissing or whatever is not a criminal offence despite being pretty distasteful.

If they chuck them out then do we do the same with other professionans if they’re found out to be having an affair? You can’t teach my child because you’ve been unfaithful? You can’t operate on me because you’ve cheated on your spouse?

However, the girlfriend’s statement does more than hint at emotional abuse.

Snowdrifthill · 09/10/2018 13:54

I don't know if having an affair / snogging is a reason to be thrown off the show, but, the BBC do have a reason to protect the reputation of a hugely popular Saturday night family television program. I don't think the powers that be at the BBC would like Strictly to become associated with any perceived sleaziness. It's a massive ratings winner and very lucrative.

RedDogsBeg · 09/10/2018 15:08

I'm surprised he hasn't withdrawn from the Show already and more so in light of the statement released by Rebecca Humphries. I'm guessing he has not withdrawn because he will lose most (if not all) of his appearance fee and the right to appear on the Strictly Tour (for more money).

Neither Katya nor Sean emerge from this with any grace, the line in Rebecca's statement about neither of them having the decency to apologise to her paints them both in a very negative light. I think this will impact on what viewers think of them both and I doubt it will be favourable. It is a shame as Katya is a fantastic dancer and brilliant choreographer and was a great asset to the Show.

AmIRightOrAMeringue · 09/10/2018 15:12

No I don't see how he can be made to leave. Unless there is a clause in his contract which states no relationships with colleagues. In which case half of them would have to leave! The gaslighting is more serious but companies can't just sack people because of an allegation made in a tweet. If the police were involved due to abusive behaviour it would be another matter

RuggerHug · 09/10/2018 16:50

BlackAmericanoNoSugar wait what about Craig and Joe?!?!? How did I miss that?!?

Jitters22 · 09/10/2018 17:07

If not for the sake of the live in girlfriend, and husband they humiliated / betrayed publicly, then from a genuine sense of remorse and decency they should withdraw. If I was one of the show producers I'd be having a quiet word quite frankly. A 'do the honourable thing' type chat.

No one is going to vote for them after this anyway.

Footage of their rehearsals, any dance that has any kind of body contact / sexiness / emotional intensity, is going to be scrutinised and analysed and so on by the media and on social media. His jokes will fall flat, any attempt at playfulness, laughing and joking will seem forced and fake. I just don't see how they can possibly carry on in the show after this, anyway.

They will inevitably end up in the dance off against another couple, and imagine if they are saved and the other couple go? That's going to cause an outcry. They could end up in the dance off for the next several weeks, because they just aren't going to get the public votes to keep them out. Will the judges need to mark them up to keep them up? Then there will be complaints about bias and on it goes.

The damage is done, they've caused the damage, they are the ones who have got pissed up in public and behaved like idiots, and they would be doing themselves, their current and former husband / girlfriend .. and everyone else, a favour by calling it a day. I doubt he was that popular with the Strictly audience to start with, and any popularity he may have had, has gone straight down the crapper after this.

mydogisthebest · 09/10/2018 18:45

jitters, I wouldn't be so sure that people are not going to vote for them. Plenty of posters on Digital Spy, The Mail comments, facebook etc are saying they will vote for them.

I will vote if I like their dance. I feel like voting anyway because of the over the top reaction from the press, tv etc.

If the girlfriend's accusations are true, and we don't know that they are, then he comes across as a pretty horrible guy BUT he has not murdered someone has he?

The80sweregreat · 10/10/2018 09:16

Lots of people cheat every day of the week - human nature unfortunately. He is clearly not very nice for what he has done , but then she isn't either.
\you should be more discreet and not poo on your own doorstep especially if your on a big reality show like strictly! the paps are everywhere it seems.

MrsStrowman · 10/10/2018 09:32

No they shouldn't, I think the public still get rid this week anyway which actually makes more of a statement. They are both very unreasonable, but it seems to happen every year.

Volant · 10/10/2018 15:01

It's not up to the public whether they go this week, it's ultimately the judges. Unless the public is going to be really Machiavellian and conspire to put them in the dance-off against someone like Faye.

TedAndLola · 10/10/2018 18:46

Did anybody see their painfully fake performance on It Takes Two tonight? I'm wondering if someone coached them on how to look sorry or if they came up with those expressions themselves Grin

walkingtheplank · 10/10/2018 18:48

Definitely a painful watch. Katya is a better actor than Sean(n).

Bluelady · 10/10/2018 18:49

Ouch, that was distinctly uncomfortable.

specialsubject · 10/10/2018 19:07

never watched Shrieky Dumb Prancing but like everyone else, can't avoid knowing that there is always some background extra-relationship shagging going on. The dancing does involve close contact and small clothes, and if there are two people with a light grip on their knicker elastic, it does encourage it.

if everyone who did that was taken off the show it would get very thin very quickly. That means no competition and fewer viewers. Doesn't make commercial sense.

Meredith501 · 10/10/2018 19:46

Is it 1922?

I cannot believe the sense of outrage that a kiss between two consenting adults is causing. Quit the show????

Crikey, Mick Jagger should have been forced to stop making music a long time ago!
